Volunteers are the heart and backbone of Cares. More, they are Cares. Cares is an allvolunteer organization whose volunteer members carry out a variety of services and programs under the leadership of a board of volunteers. All of Cares volunteers are charged to provide compassionate, kind and thoughtful attention, and support to residents with health and wellness needs. In a word, Cares’ volunteers’ commitment is “to provide helping hands for neighbors.” As of July 1, there are 33 active volunteers, including eight board members, who are also involved in Cares services, programs, and other activities. Services that volunteers provide include taking calls on Helpline, managing the Emergency Fuel Fund, serving as Friendly Visitors, driving people to medical appointments, managing medical equipment loans, helping with simple home repairs and maintenance, and welcoming newcomers to town with welcome baskets and providing sunshine baskets for those who are recovering from illness or need perking up because of some other special need.
