West Yorkshire has a population of 2.3 million, with Leeds being the largest city. In 1853 Sir Titus Salt built the impressive textile mill and surrounding town of Saltaire to help improve the working & living conditions of its workers. Now the Grade II listed building is used as an art gallery & shopping centre. It houses many paintings of the local artist David Hockney, Bradford born, whose 1972 work ‘Portrait of an Artist’ was sold in 2018 for £70m & at the time was one of the most expensive artworks by a living artist to be sold at auction. The Dalton Mills, located in Keighley, was once thought to be the largest former textile mill with 2000+ employees. It was also used as a set for the Peaky Blinders Series.
