UMAINE PRESIDENT JOAN FERRINI-MUNDY

Joan Ferrini-Mundy is the president of the University of Maine and its regional campus, the University of Maine at Machias. Prior to joining the UMaine and UMM communities on July 1, 2018, she was the chief operating officer of the National Science Foundation. Her distinguished career spans the fields of mathematics education, STEM education and policy, teacher education, and research administration. Among her awards and recognitions are the U.S. Senior Executive Service Presidential Rank Award of Distinguished Executive, and election as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. President Ferrini-Mundy is a member of the National Academies Board on Higher Education and the Workforce, and is leading the implementation of a University of Maine System plan for research and development. She holds a Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of New Hampshire.

DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS KEN RALPH

Ken Ralph is the director of athletics at the University of Maine. Before joining the UMaine community on Sept. 1, 2018, Ralph was the director of athletics at Colorado College for 11 years. The Salem, New Hampshire, native also served as the director of athletics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 2002–07, and before moving into administration fulltime, coached swimming at the college level for 12 seasons. Ralph earned his undergraduate degree in political science at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, where he was recognized as an All-American in swimming in 1989 and 1990. He earned a master’s degree in sports management studies from California University of Pennsylvania.
