Digital Pathways Initiative 8-WEEK DIGITAL MEDIA CHARRETTE 2021


WHAT IS A CHARRETTE? !  A charrette, is series of challenge-based learning

events and tasks that involve intense design or planning activity.

charrette may refer to any collaborative session in which a group of designers drafts a solution to a design problem.

!  The word

!  While the structure of a charrette varies, depending on

the design problem and the individuals in the group, charrettes often take place in multiple sessions in which the group divides into sub-groups.


WHAT IS A CHARRETTE? !  Each sub-group then presents its work to the full group

as material for further dialogue. !  Such charrettes serve as a way of quickly generating a

design solution while integrating the aptitudes and interests of a diverse group of people. !  Although the structure of charrettes may vary, the

general idea of a charrette is to create an innovative atmosphere in which a diverse group of stakeholders can collaborate to "generate visions for the future".


BENEFITS OF A CHARRETTE !  Educate students on how to prepare themselves for

candidacy to a 4-year college or university, gainful employment, and/or entrepreneurial endeavor.

!  Provide a forum for planning a project with those who

can influence decisions.

!  Establish a multidisciplinary teams that can set and

agree on common project goals, while promoting “collective enthusiasm.”

!  Generate early expectations or quantifiable metrics,

while providing early understanding of the potential impact of various strategies.


BENEFITS OF A CHARRETTE !  Identify project strategies for exploration with their associated

costs, time constraints, and the needed expertise to eliminate costly "surprises" later in the processes.

!  Identify partners, available grants, and potential collaborations

that can provide expertise, funding, credibility, and support to the project. !  Set a project schedule and budget that all team

members feel comfortable following.

!  Ensure that the team continues to work together

toward attaining their shared goals. !  Provide opportunities for discussion of more

specific alternatives.

!  Ensure continual involvement of the

initial core participants.


•  Students must apply and be selected to participate •  Guidelines, time commitments, and confidentiality established upfront •  To ensure diverse disciplines are represented to achieve project objectives, only a certain number of students will be admitted to each discipline •  Once all candidates are selected, teams will be forms by the Facilitators and Mentors •  Targeting 30 students

Sponsors

•  Must apply, be selected, and assigned to teams based on expertise related to Student Projects •  Briefed on Student Project Guidelines & Objectives via series of orientations •  Must attend student war room workshops, guide discussions, provide thought leadership and critiques to assist student teams in =developing quality content •  Act as host when student team is presenting projects to professionals/jurors

Student Teams

•  Work with Facilitators to design the student project(s) •  Establish the objectives •  Criteria and schedule for review and measurements •  Establish and fund the rewards for winning student teams

Mentors

•  Designs, deploys, and maintains online collaboration platform •  Establishes guidelines and acts as "host" and/or master of ceremonies throughout the initiative •  Collaborates with mentors, jurors, and sponsors to organize and deploy student projects •  Provides orientation to professionals, mentors, student teams, and sponsors, as needed to make sure everyone is on the same page •  Collects data on behalf of the sponsors on the student body as it relates to conversion to consumers •  Coordinates with outside consultants, as needed to add value for the students in regards to transition to 4year colleges and universities and job placement

current social issue/cause !  Solution can be achieved by means of

implementing variety of digital media tactics !  Student Teams learn skills that meet the

requirements of the Business Information Worker !  Allows students to apply their technical skills as a

transparent overly to what employers are looking for in a recruit
