ASSIGNMENT 1 LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATIVE DIMENSON S OF INTERIOR DESIGN This assignment serves as an introduction to the standard of Professional Conduct and Practice. It aims to outline the general Professional Conduct and self-discipline expected of Interior Designers registered with the Board of Architects (Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia). Students are required to refer documents that relate closely to the legal and regulatory framework in practice such as the Architects Act 1967, Architects Rules 1996, Uniform Building By-Laws 1984, PAM/MIID Contract and other regulatory provisions related to the profession.

At the end of this exercise, students will engage in knowledge transfer amongst their peers to understand, question and later apply in their individual projects.

ASSIGNMENT 1 LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATIVE DIMENSON S OF INTERIOR DESIGN In Assignment 1, we were given a choice of nine topics, allowing us the freedom to select the one that resonated most with our interests. After careful deliberation, my group and I decided to explore the MIlD Contract, initially drawn by a curiosity about its financial aspects.

As we delved into the details of the PAM and MIlD Contract documents, we quickly realized that our focus broadened beyond just the financial implications. The dynamics of the contract became increasingly compelling, especially in regard to the roles of the Interior Designer, Client/Employer, and Contractor.

This exploration has been particularly valuable to me, as it aligns with my goal of pursuing freelance work using my design skills in the future. Through this study, I’ve gained essential insights, equipping me with a deeper understanding of contract terms that were previously unfamiliar, providing a foundation that will be useful in evaluating contracts down the line.

INTRODUCTION OF

ASSIGNMENT 2 KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE FORUM + PDW SUMMARY Assignment 2 encompasses the Knowledge Exchange Forum, which spans Professional Development Week (PDW) activities conducted in Weeks 5, 7, and 9.

PDW itself took place in Week 8, featuring two tasks that contribute 20% to the final grade. The goal of this assignment is to foster democratic exchange and encourage active participation in online forums, promoting both personal and academic growth through peer interaction.

Students are required to form groups based on project themes and to propose a relevant abstract that aligns closely with their chosen theme. Additionally, they must actively participate in weekly forum discussions, as participation is graded.

Each student is expected to provide a brief, 200-word summary reflecting on their insights from each forum, and they must attend at least six seminars to fulfill a six-hour credit requirement during PDW. AI is definitely shaking things up. While it’s a powerful tool that can make things faster and more efficient, I don’t think it can replace the human side of design—the creativity, emotional connection, and cultural understanding that a good designer brings to the table. In my opinion, the best way forward is for us to embrace AI as a tool, not a competitor, and focus on areas where we truly shine.

On the other hand, topics like the CCC and UBBL 1984 remind me that interior design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s also about creating spaces that are safe, functional, and compliant with regulations. The CCC is essential for ensuring public trust, while UBBL 1984 highlights the importance of safety measures like fire protection. I believe designers have a responsibility to integrate these requirements into their work without compromising creativity.

In my view, staying relevant in this industry means balancing innovation and responsibility. By embracing technology, respecting regulations, and showcasing our unique expertise, we can keep the profession thriving while adapting to a rapidly changing landscape. It’s all about finding that sweet spot between creativity, safety, and progress.

ASSIGNMENT 4 BY-LAW APPLICATION AND PREREQUISTES FOR BUILDING PLAN SUBMISSION In our final assignment on "By-Law Application and Prerequisite for Building Plan Submission," we were encouraged to utilize our final-year project from AIAD II and crosscheck our designs to ensure compliance with relevant by-laws and requirements. For my project, I focused on creating a space to to promotes health and mobility, situated in Fung Wong Biscuit, Kuala Lumpur. This exercise challenged me to evaluate the alignment of my design with these regulations, offering both clarity and areas of uncertainty.

As I delved deeper into the assessment, I found that my design partially adhered to the by-laws, leaving room for improvement. This realization brought mixed emotions but ultimately provided a valuable opportunity to understand critical aspects such as purpose group classifications, the significance of escape routes for fire safety, and adequate provisions for disabled users.

The assignment felt especially relevant since it involved analyzing a familiar project. This connection made it easier to identify weaknesses and refine my approach. Evaluating my design against by-laws heightened my awareness of specific regulations necessary to ensure the safety and functionality of the workshops.

Overall, this assignment was an invaluable learning experience.
