Stronger Community Through Transparent Architecture

The intent of this project is to build a stronger community relationship between NewSchool and East Village as well as between the students and faculty of the school.

Functionally the space will provide an exclusive location for NewSchool to showcase their design achievements. The use of open and inviting angles along with transparent spaces will help foster this relationship.

DADAAB REFUGEE SHELTER

Mobile Structures To Provide Basic Human Needs

This project seeks to create a new way of imagining refugee housing. The structure creates a space which families can call their own and adapt to their personal needs.

The design is transportable and easily adaptable to any environment, making it useful for refugees which have to travel far distances to get to the Dadaab Refugee Camp.

Promoting Interdisciplinary Collaboration By Encouraging Interaction

San Diego State University’s Interdisciplinary Science Center intends to create an environment which will showcase the subject of engineering, while promoting collaboration among its users and encouraging sustainable practices. By redefining the typical program adjacencies and providing increased circulation this project will advocate interaction by moving the community throughout the site.

Every lab style room will have direct access to exterior space allowing for open and increased interaction among all disciplines. This center will become a space for ideas to be showcased, where scholars become inspired.

FROM SKYLINES TO TREELINES

Addressing Our Environmental Impact by Immersing Ourselves in the Natural World

This research attempts to understand and strengthen the relationship between architecture and the natural environment.

As a response to the declining health of the plane, the field of architecture has created the realm of sustainable design. While the discipline of sustainability seeks to implement improved building practices, it fails to address the problem of over-consumption, and the health of the planet continues to diminish. This design will provide a recreational space that re-establishes a connection between humanity and nature. By implementing three unique structures into the Anza-Borrego desert, this project can offer the opportunity for visitors to experience the allure of nature, and in turn regenerate their attraction and desire to save

these wild spaces. Each structure will be located along an eighteen-mile journey which brings the visitors deep into the wilderness over a three-day venture. As the users get further into the backcountry, access to typical amenities becomes more limited and users are forced to rely on their understanding of the natural environment. Throughout their journey visitors will have the opportunity to reflect upon their place within the natural world.
