Shinjuko Grand hotel
Type: Hospitality Year: 2021 Size: 30 Floors Software: AutoCAD, 3DS MAX, Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop Program: Located in Tokyo, Japan, the Shinjuku Grand
Hotel centers around the theme of transience. The focus is on the idea of impermanence and how that relates to hotels being a place of in-between. This project focused on concept, branding, space planning, and user experience. Our group space planned common areas and developed concept and material inspiration together. Downtown Market
together the community of Athens Georgia. This lot located in a downtown historic area is walking distance to other shopping, dining, and residences. Our team deveopled the idea of a two story space filled with leasable commercial spaces that is neighbored by an open courtyard that provides space for gathering as well as commmerce through rentable booths. Each person was also able to design their own space within the market. This project’s objectives were to develop a community space within our group and explore sustainability and material use throughout our individual spaces.

Introducing Flora! A new sustainability focused, plant and lifestyle boutique located in the Downtown Market. Flora sells house plants, decor, and plant accesories. At Flora we belive in supporting local nursery’s and sourcing our products ethically and sustainably. Not only are our products environmentally and socially conscious, but our store design is as well! Flora is adjacent to the Market’s community space with vendor booths.

Lime washed accent walls were choosen over traditional paint to reduce VOC’s for better air quality. Made from natural lime and pigments, lime wash can also “clean the air” due to it’s high pH. Regular maintenance every 5-7 years is a small trade off for an environmentally freiendly wall treatment. Two accent walls were finished with clay plaster stamped in a floral motif. It is free from toxins and VOC’s and made from readily abundant natural materials. Studies show that is can also benefit indoor air quality by mitigating mould, microbes, asthma, and formaldehyde. All light fixtures in this space were furnished with LED bulbs to produce less heat, provide more light, and lower operating costs.
The sales counter was finished with a solid surfce called Durat. It is 100% made up of recycled, post-industrial plasitics. This highly durable material is manufactured using 100% renewable energy in thier factory, and the only solid surface in the world that uses all natural pigments.
Behind the sales counter we used a zero VOC, water based ink wall paper. Greengaurd certified and PVC free, this tropical print will add to the space without off gassing and degrading the indoor air quality.
All furniture used in this space is composed of bamboo. Antimicrobial properties of the wood make it great for public areas. With a high self-generation rate, bamboo makes for a great environmentally freindly material as long as the cultivation practices are sustainable.
03 Next Office Type: Workplace Year: 2020 Size: 11,500 sq. ft. Software: Revit/ Enscape/ Photoshop Program: NEXT is a global technology company specializing in all aspects of health and wellness to improve the general happiness of people all over the world. As part of creating a diverse talent base as well as offering staff more opportunity to work remote, NEXT will be opening their first of many planned satellite offices in Atlanta, GA. Along with this satellite expansion, NEXT is also providing a more robust option to an already progressive work from home policy.
They have a strong reputation for collaborative team-based content development, and they want to make sure that their new environment supports the way they work and how they might work in the future, Post-Pandemic, using new technology integrations. Next needs a design solution that challanges how and why we do things to create a new normal. This project focuses on space planning, furniture selection and branded spaces. *Concept inspired design and branding

This monumental staircase was inspired by the unique shape of the building and also mirrors the design concept for the space. NEXT and their progressive, team based work culture can utilize these stairs to hold impromtu meetings, host individual work, or just serve as a unique visual in their space.

04 Tea Room Café Type: Restaurant Year: 2020 Size: 1,800 sq. ft. Software: Revit/ Enscape/ Photoshop Program: A historic brick building on a
neighborhood corner is being converted into a tearoom. This tea room cafe, deriving from a traditional Japanese tea-house, must perform as an abode of fancy while meeting its customer’s needs and wants. This restaurant-like space will serve tea, coffee, and pastries from a walk-up bar or several small tables inside or on the patio.

The custom shape for the bar plays into the art deco style throughout the space while also providing ample space for food prep and supply storage. Using curves on the end of the bar and front appliques ties in nicely with the arched mirrors and the brass footrest adds to the vintage feel. *Dimensions are in inches
Due to the historic nature of the building, I chose to take inspiration from an art deco style mixed with traditional Japanese motifs to honor the tea-room origin. Materials like rattan, bamboo, and silk all come from Asian regions and were utilized in this space. The print on the chairs depicts Japanese motifs like the crane and peony on a deep blue satin. The wallpaper, velvet, arches, and style of furniture all represent the art deco influence. Together the two styles serve as an abode of fancy.
