Step 1: Prepare the company file before updating

● Begin the process by opening the original version of the QB Desktop and opening the company file which you want to update.

● After that, press and hold on to the F2 key on the keyboard to open the Product Information window

● Next, you have to go to the File Information section and write down the location of your company file.

● After that, once run your company file through the Rebuild Tool before proceeding forward.

● Lastly, you need to move your company file to the system’s local hard device and re-transfer it again once you have upgraded it.

Step 2: Move and Update the QuickBooks company file

● First, ensure all users are signed out of the company file.

● Then, open the updated version of your QB Desktop.

● After that, go to the File section, followed by the Open or Restore Company option if your company file is not open yet.

● Now, click on the Open a company file option again, and hit Next. Tip: If you have a backup file for your company file, then you have to choose the Restore a backup copy option in place of opening the company file.

● If not, then you have to look and select the company file and then Open it.

● Now, you have to sign in to your company file with admin rights.

● After these steps, QB will automatically create a backup for your existing company file. If you want, then you can select Change this default location to change the backup file location.
