WRITING

The pen is mightier than the sword! Secure your legacy by taking this memoir class, or finally write that novel in our Wednesday Writing With Nancy course. These classes are taught by Nancy Beckett who is a Guest Artist at BAC with a fresh approach to personal writing. As a 20-year veteran writing teacher of the Second City Training Center and Columbia College Chicago, Nancy is a comedy specialist who also offers consulting and home-hosted, writing salons. She holds an MFA in Playwriting from Yale School of Drama.

Legacy Writing (6 Week Course)

Wednesdays, 10-12pm

Sessions: Jan 18/Mar 15/May 10

Beckett

$160

This class encourages narrators to write in combination with photographs. Whether the aim is to share stories, memorialize a person’s life, or simply celebrate family get togethers, most of us can find a few pictures to go along with the occasion. Limited to 8 people, everyone will get feedback. Anything goes as material. Feel free to write longhand,

or on a computer or tablet. Plenty of examples of published works will provide you inspiration. Leave your first-person, truthful account of memories, reflections, and meaning-making for your loved ones straight from the horse’s mouth.

Humorous Stories: Memoir, Fiction or Whatnot (6 Week Course)

Wednesdays, 1-4pm

Sessions: Jan 18/Mar 15/May 10

Beckett $240

This class encourages narrators to explore the basic subject matter of life such as: your body, your relatives, your work, money, food, clothes, your car, and of course, pets. You may also want to write on many other topics. That’s fine too. Humor involves subject matter that’s serious before it amuses. Through feedback, reading-as-a-writer, and writing truthfully this subject matter becomes lighter, relatable, and unique to your narrating tone and style. This class helps you to listen to your writing voice —the sound that readers find engaging and inspired.
