Message from our market beef leader:

On behalf of our members, I warmly welcome you to our 2nd annual Topline 4-H Multi Show & Sale. It has been an honour to serve these members as one of their leaders this past year. What an amazing group of youth. They are learning to be leaders and work together to learn to do by doing. They are passionate about what they do and that is clearly evident in the quality they are bringing to this Show & Sale. The steers this year are top notch and it is going to be a heck of a show. I encourage you to come out, cheer on our members and bid on some steers! There is no better beef and no better way to support youth in agriculture. See you June 7th in Thorsby!

Message from our sheep leader:

Hello everyone!! I get the opportunity to be this amazing group of 4H member’s sheep leader. My name is Bret Hansen and this is my second year as their leader. This year we have 7 member grown market lambs and 1 lamb grown for charity that were all locally sourced. The members have put a lot of time and dedication into their projects. I’m proud of each and every one of them!

Message from our president:

It has been a long ride, but I am proud to say the quality presented at this sale is more than worth it. With it only being our second year there was still much to learn. However, we are learning as a group and helping eachother. We were able to have some amazing clinics and mentors throughout the year, and I am already seeing the skills and knowledge being applied. Hope to see you at the sale!

Hi, my name is Hunter. I am 17 years old, this is my 6th year in 4-H, and my second year with Topline. This year I was very lucky to be chosen to participate in the Calgary Stampede’s OH Branded Beef Youth Ambassador program, and that’s is where I received my steer Brutus from. We have came so far from where we started, and between learning with my steer through hands-on work and learning through all the educational opportunities the program provides I have furthered my knowledge exponentially since the start of the year. It has made me become a better showman, a better cattleman, and a better representative of the industry, and I could not be more grateful for that. I will not be selling at achievement day, but would love to see you all there to support my fellow club members, have a chat, and come see how all the blood, sweat and tears has paid off for both myself and everyone else there. If you don’t get a chance to buy a project at our achievement day I would love to see you at Stampede where I will be showing and selling Brutus. I really appreciate you taking the time to read this, and hopefully it helps you in your choice to decide to support youth in agriculture in our community.

Carcass Program

Did you know?

Last year there was 105 steers in the Carcass Competition. 59% Graded AA, 26% AAA and 1% Prime.

The proof is there. Purchasing 4-H Beef not only supports future beef leaders but also put quality beef in your freezer!

Hello, My name is Gage Hansen. I am the only person in my club with a carcass steer. The goal of the carcass competition is to find a carcass that meets high-quality standards for marketing directly to consumers. My carcass steer has to be clean, completely tag free, broke to lead and quiet, and I demonstrate this through a video that I send in showing how good he is. He will be butchered at Sangudo Custom Meat Packers and then they go through our carcass showing us the different cuts and what the difference is in quality of carcass. We pull DNA off our calves and that is a very cool part of the project because it can tell us how our animal could grow in a pen of steers. My steer last year would have been in the top 30 percent of a pen according to DNA results. Last year my steer completely filled our freezer at home and I took a lot of pride in being the person to feed our family. My mom said that they were the best rib eye steaks ever! This year’s carcass animals name is Megamind. He is a strapping brown Maine Anjou steer that enjoys pets and barley. He is nice and quiet and will be delicious on the end of a fork.
