Grove Kankakee county, Illinois. It · is distant about fifty. miles from Chicago. and two and a half miles from Kankakee city, just on the verge of an extensive grove of forest tr~es and hard by the banks of_ the Kan.kakee. The . site is peculiarly beautiful and healthy. Near enough to enjoy the advantages of a city when needed, the College is far removed from its distractions and moral dangers. Thi.s institution. founded in 1865, was raised to the rank, and invested with the power and privileges of a university by an act of .the State Legislatgre, in Febru- ,. ary, 1874. It is under the direction of the priests and brothers of the congregation 6f St. Viateur. The Professors and Tutors reside in the institution, and devote themselves entirely to the duties of their profession, fo'r ining but one family with the students, and exercising a constant supervision, friendly in the highest deg-ree to discipline, decorum, and good morals. The system of education ernbr~ces: The Commercial Course, Classics, Sciences, Philosophy, and Theology. No student is ,allowed to graduate or take his degrees without .having gone through the prescribed course and having given clear evidences of his worthiness, both at private and public examinations. Those who graduate as .Bachelors of Arts, may, 0n proper application made to the Presi,d ent and Faculty, receive the degree of Master of Arts, provided they shall have devoted at least two years to literary pursuits. ·

The study of Letters is helped and enc9uraged by an excellent Circulating Library. (We take ,this occasion to thank friends for contributions already received and to solicit further patronage for our library.) · The College grounds are large and well shaded, hav. ing ball alleys and abundant room for all games and athletic exercises. Tlre buildings can accommodate three hundred students. The halls and rooms are spacious, airy, and comfort able. The College is heated by steam, lighted by electricity, and is furnished with water from a spring by ·a complete system of water works. The diet of the students is al ways wholesome and abundant. In sickness . they are nursed and watched over with parental solicitude, and all the care that parents can desire is g·iven to the wardrobe, dormitories, and all those departments ' On which health, comfort, and economy depend. 0

N. B.-The infirmary, the refectory, the laundry, and dormitories are under the care of the Sisters. There- are two sessi'o1Js, one beginning on the first Tuesday of September, the other on the first of February. At the close of each session all the classes are examined. On both occasions bulletins are sent to parents or guardi• ans informing them of the standing, progress, application, heal th, etc., of their children or wards. At the close of the academic year candidates for degrees are publicly examined. At the commencement degrees are conferred and premiums and medals a re a warded. Students may enter at any time, and will be charged pro rata from date of entrance after September 20; it is much to their advantage, however, to enter at the opening of the September session. Should a student leave the College before the close of the session, no de'" duction will be made except in case of protracted sickness (of at least one month), or dismissal. A student who has been at any other institutjon must produce a satisfactory recommendation from the Superior thereof. The classes

a student is to attend will be determined by an examinaticJ'n. ¡ He may aftf'rwards be promoted for merit. While the government of the College js mild and parental, the laws of good order, propriety, and morality are strictly enfqrced. The moral influence of instruction, persuasion, and encouragement is primarily and mainly relied on, and is seldom found ineffectual. Visiti9g days are Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Good accommqdations for parents and friends are easily obtained in the village. 1
