This Institution, founded in 1885, was raised to the rank and invested with the power and' p11ivlleges;of a U niwersity by an act of the State Legislature, in February, i874. It is under the direction of the Priests of the Congregation ot St. Viateur, with "<vhom'"is associated a11 ·efficieut · corps 'Of other ecclesiastical proressors. The P1mfessors and :Tu;i;0rs reside in the Institution and devote then1selves entirely to the duties of their profession. They forin but one 'fan1ily with 't he students and exercise a mild and paternal, yet, fitm and con~tant supervision,. friendly in the highest degree to . discipline, decorun1 and good morals. The systen1 of education embraees: the Classical and Co111n1ercial Courses, the Sciences, also Philosophy and Theology. No student is allowed to graduate or take his degrees without having first gone through his prescribed co11rse and only after giving decided evidence of his fifa:\ess bot,h at private and public examinations. The College grounds are large and well shaded, having ball alleys, and abundant roo1n £or all games and athletic exercises. The buildings can accommodate two hundrell students. The halls and rooms are spacious, airy a.ncl comfortable. The diet of t.he students is always wholesome and abundant. In sickness they are nursed and watched over with parental solicitude; and all the care that parents can desire is given to the wardrobe, donnitorie and all those departments on which health, comfort and economy depend. There are two sessions, one beginning on the first Tuesday of September, the other on the first of February. At the close of each session all the classes are examined. On both occasions. bulletins are sent to parents or guardians informing them 0£ the standing, progress, application, health, etc., of their children or wards. At the close of the academicyear,candidatesfor degrees are publicly examined. At the Commencement, degrees are conferred and premiums distributed. Students may enter at any time, and will be clrnrgecl frnm elate 0£ entrance; it is much to their advantage, howeYer, to t>uter at the opening of the September session. Should a student leaYe the Qollege before the close 0£ a session, no declnction will be made except in case of protracted sickness or dismissal. A ~tndent who has been at any other institution 1nust produce a ~at.i8factory r3'commendation from the Superior thereof. The rln~~e:5 a, stnc1ent is to attend will be determined by an examinnJ.ion. He may afterwards be promoted for 1uerit. While the government of the College i:-.- rniU and par,)nta1, the laws of good order, propriety and 1norality are strictly enforced. ~L The religion of non-Catholic students will not be interfered with; £or the sake 0£ uniformity however, all n1ust c0n£orn1 t.o the general e~ercises of the College. 3, Students 1nust obey .every summons of the bell promptly and in silence. 4. The use or introduction of intoxicating liquors, the lJSe 0£ tobacco, card-playing, and every species of ga:rnbling, are £or bidden. 5. Every tJ o weeks a niedal to be worn as a badge of honor during the next term of competition, is awarded to that member of each class who has specially distinguished himself £or conduct and progress during the two previous weeks: to serve this and other ends, a careful report 0£ each student is given to the President and is publicly read every second week. 6. No one may leave the College ground without perm1ss10n £ron1 proper authority. 7. Parents and friends 0£ the students may visit the College on reception days only-i. e.)on Thursdays and Sundays. 8. Pern1ission to go home will be given to students only in case 0£ the serious illness of some men1ber of their family; exceptions 1nay be made in behalf 0£ the n1inims. 9. The penalty of expulsion is incurred by wanton and repeated violations of established rules, by irreligious language or writing, the introduction of infidel or immoral books, or other grave offences against morality or discipline. 10. It is required that students procure one n1ilitary suit either before or upon arriving at the college. We cann~t too earnestly engage all to join the n1ilitary companies as the drills and other exercises n1ust tend to develop and strengthen the physique and also improve the general bearing 0£ the 1nembers. Suits may be ordered £ron1 the college or n1ay be purchased at Work Bros., Cor. Market & Adams; or at Orr & Co., 179 Madison St., Chicago, Ill., at the following prices: for n1inin1s $9.50; £or juniors $1:2.00,; for seniors $13.50. 11. There is no Easter vacation. Visits home at this tin1e, and indeed at all times during scholastic year, are absolutely · discountenanced. 12. Students not. ·r eturning at the appointed time after the Christmas holidays, forfeit their righ t to niedals .
