PROSPEU'fUS. St. Vittteur's CollE>ge situated at Bourbonnais Grove~ Kankakee County, Illinois, is distant about fifty miles from Chicago, and two..aud-a-half from Kankakee city . .Just on the verge of an extensive grove of forest trees and hard by the banks of' the Kankakee, the site is singularly beautiful and healthy. Whilst . near enough to enjoy all the advantages of a city when needed, yet the college, by its• position, is fa.r enough temoved from worldly distnwtions and moral clanger~. This Institution, founded in 1865, was rnised to the rank, and invested with the power and privileges of a Uni versi.ty by an act of the State .Legislature, in :February, 1874. It is under the direction of the Priests of the Congregation of St. Vi~t.e ur, with whom is associated an efficient corps of other ecclesiasth-al professors. The Professor~ and Tutor~ reside in the Institution .a nd devote themselve$ entirely to the duties of their profession. They form but one family with the stud~nts, and exereise a mild and pat~rnal, yet, firm and constant supervision, friendly in the highest degree to discipline, decorum and good morals. The system of education embraces: the ·Classical and Commercial Courses, the Sciences, also PbUosophy and Theology. No student is allowed to graduate or take his degrees without having first gone through his prescribed course and only after , , g1vmg decided evidence of his fitness both at private, a,ind public examinations. Thm;e who graduat~ as Bachelors ofAr:ts may, on proper application made to the President and Faculty, receive · the degree of Master of Arts, provided they shall have devoted at least two years to literary pursuits. ·The study of letters is helped and e1;1couraged by an excellent Circulating Library. ('Ve take this occasion to thank friends for contribnti.ons already receiv~d and solicit further patronage for our library.) The College grounds ' are large and well shaded, having ball alleys, and abunch :nt room for all games and athletic exercises. · 1

N. B.-Patents or guardians are strongly urged to see that ' their children or wards come well supplied with all the necessary a.rticles of use or wear, as the students sometimes make the want of such things a pretext for visiting the city. The Superiors of the institution very justly discountenance all such visits, no matter under what plea they may be made, and will be loath to feel the necessity of permitting what can seldom occur witl:iout useless expense, loss of time and prejudice to discipline. The College will furnish nothing to students, unless a sufficient sum be placed -in the hands of the ·Treasurer. Payments must be made ham-yearly in advance; if not,_ the students will be liable to b~ sent bo~e. · All letters t~ and from the stu<lents shall be subject to the insp~ction of the President.
