!JROSPECTUS. •

St. Vi'.tten1:'s Coller;) ::,ituatecl at Boul'bonnais Grove, Kankakee County, Illinois, is di~t·1,nt . about fifty n1iles from Chicago, and two-'.tnd-:1-h·1,lf miles from K rmlrnkee city. Just on the verge of an extensive 'grove of f~west trees and hard by the banks the Kankakee, the site is singuhrly bennt.iful and healthy. Whilst near enough to enjoy all the advan~R.ges of a city when needed, \ et the college, by its position, is far enough removed from worldly distractions and moral dangers. This Institution, founded in 1865, was raised to the rank, and invested ~vith the power aud privileges of a University by an act of the State Legislature, in Febri.rnry, 187 4. · It is under the dire\.~tion of the Priests of the Congregation of St. Viateur, with whom is assooiated an efficient corps o'f other ecclesiastical profossors. The Professors and Tutors reside in the Institution Rnd devote themselves entirely to the dllties of their professiou. 'rbey form but one family with the studentt3, and exercise a mild am1. p·-iternal, yet,, firm and constant supervision, friendly in the highest degree to discipline, decorum and good mornls. I • The system of eclnc~tion ernbrnces: the Classical and Commercial ConrEes, the S'ciences, also Philosophy and Theology. No student is allm, ved to graduate or take his deg1;ees without . ' hn.ving first gone through his prescribed conrse and only after giving decided evidence qf his fitness both at private and public examinatious. Th0se ·who grnduate as :Bachelors of Arts may, on proper flpplication mnde to the President and Faculty, receive the degree of :Master of ArtE, provided they shall have devoted at least two yearE- to literary pursuits. · ~'he study of letters is helped and ·encouraged by an excellent Circnlating Library. ,(\i\Te take this occasion to thank friends for ·contributions alre~u]y received and solicit further patronage for our librnry.) . The College grounds are large and well shaded, having ball alleys, and abundant room for all games and athletic exercises.
