CHARACTERISTICS OF A VIANNEY EDUCATION: we Educate for formation in faith. St. John Vianney High School helps students to bear witness with a personal and committed faith that touches the heart. Vianney helps promote a faith-and-culture dialogue and forms students in the Gospel’s values and Christian attitudes. In addition, Vianney pledges to educate in a free and responsible style which elicits a personal response to faith and makes present the example and influence of Mary as the first disciple.

St. John Vianney High School promotes quality education of the whole person, providing a coherent curricula and a well-formed professional staff and administration equipped with adequate supplies and finances. Vianney develops respect for the dignity of the person who has interior spirit and self-knowledge. In addition, our school develops in the students a concern for global and local issues of culture, ecology, and technology. Vianney fosters a diverse faculty, staff, and student body while continuing to offer Mary as a model of integrity in relation to the realities of the world.

Vianney is an educational community characterized by collaborative structures and processes and one which expresses authority as a loving and dedicated service. In addition, our school influences others by exhibiting the Marian traits of openness, hospitality, graciousness and faith.
WE Educate for service, justice, and peace. St. John Vianney High School promotes a missionary spirit and educates for solidarity as well as justice and peace. Vianney students attend to the poor, promote the dignity and rights of women, encourage the formation of Christian service groups, announce justice and denounce oppression.
WE Educate for adaptation and change. St. John Vianney High School educates its students to shape the future. We educate students to accept and respect differences in a pluralistic society by helping them develop critical thinking skills and by teaching them to be open and adaptable to local and global contexts through enculturation and interdisciplinary education. Finally, the St. John Vianney High School community embraces Mary’s fiat, “Do whatever he tells you,” allowing students to be available to respond to the signs of the times in faith.

Mark and Mary Kohlberg ’77, Former Board Chair, President of Zeller Technologies, Inc. Mark and Mary Kohlberg have been an “item” around Vianney since, well, before 1975. The high school sweethearts have dated since they were 15, and, were part of the Vianney Homecoming Court in 1977. Today, they are married with a daughter, Lindsay, and two sons, both of whom went to Vianney - Brian ’99 and Jeff ’00. Mark has been involved at Vianney for many years. He’s served as a member of the Finance Committee and Board Chairman while his sons were in school here. Now, he’s president of Zeller Technologies, Inc. and Industrial Motor Repair, Inc. He still participates in alumni events and the auction. Mark and Mary believe it is important to be generous in their support of Vianney.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: “As alumni, all of us are now in parts of our careers where we can afford to give back to Vianney. People used to say that since we have only been around since 1960 our alumni were not in a position to support Vianney. Donor Profile Bob and Mary Meyer
Guidance Counselor/Coach/Vianney Dad Bob Meyer has been a Catholic school educator for more than 14 years, currently as a member of our Guidance Counseling team. He and his wife Mary are parents of two sons (Sophomore Matt and Senior Sean) who are Griffins. Bob serves as a golf and freshman soccer coach. Bob and Mary have been consistent supporters of Vianney through the annual Griffin Fund. In fact, their gift, along with others from the faculty and staff, helped Vianney achieve 100 percent participation from the faculty and staff in the annual Griffin Fund appeal. Bob believes in Vianney and its impact on the students and families it serves.

“Vianney is moving in a positive direction. Every year, I’ve seen this school improve and get better - year after year. There have been great improvements to the curriculum and academic programs, and improvements to the building and campus itself. “We are getting good kids in here and they are succeeding. My reasons for supporting the Griffin Fund are that I see it as an investment in my two sons and in the kids Vianney serves. I also support the Griffin Fund as a way to show my support to my colleagues here. The teachers and staff do a great job of producing bright young men who are mature and go on to great things in their lives.”

JOHN VIANNEY HIGH SCHOOL HONORS TOP 50: St. John Vianney High School earned its ranking as being among the Top 50 Catholic Schools in America for its academic program, as determined by the Cardinal Newman Society. MODEL SCHOOL: Vianney was named just one of 10 schools in the nation as a Model School, as determined by the Gurian Institute. The Gurian Institute is one of the foremost experts in the study of brain-based research and gender-specific learning styles. Five of Vianney’s faculty members are certified by the Gurian Institute as trainers for other educators in brain-based research and gender-specific learning styles.

Mike Schellhase ’82 has traveled the world many times over. As the president of one of St. Louis’ top travel agencies, Mike and his wife Melissa, have seen the world. But their hearts never leave home, and in Mike’s case, it never left Vianney. Mike and Melissa are among several alumni who have left Vianney in their will through planned gifts.
