Zealand businesses in the following automotive sectors: Automotive workshops, parts importers and distributors, transmission specialists, automotive recyclers, towing operators, panel beaters and painters, crash repairers, tyre dealers, suspension and underbody repairers, steering specialists, towing operators, auto-electrical repairers, newand used-car dealers, air-conditioning repairers, heavy-machinery dealers, trucking and transport. The platform also introduces an Account Management section, enabling workshops to oversee their purchases, control spending limits, and access past invoices. Once registered, users can manage team access to the account, making it easy for businesses to coordinate purchases across multiple team members. Ward highlights the flexibility this offers, noting, “We have also developed a full Account Management section that allows workshops to control their purchases and spending limits as well as view past invoices and apply for increases on 30-day credit accounts. What is particularly impressive is the ability to give access to all employees and even apprentices so they can have the benefit of exclusive trade pricing whilst the Account Holder is in full control.”
There are plenty of smarts behind the new e-commerce platform that integrates with all the key attributes of the website. Repeat and large orders have become fast and easy thanks to a dedicated area for ordering bulk products and a re-ordering system for those items that are purchased on a regular basis. This means that customers can quickly reorder from a previous invoice or utilise a new Quick Order Form function designed to save time when placing a large order or stocking up on common items.
“In total, trade customers will have access to over one million products online from all of the biggest brands, and the Supercheap Auto Trade team have ensured that pricing is not only SUPER competitive but is shown clearly and accurately on the new website,”
says Ward.
The new website is only part of the Supercheap Auto Trade initiative, with a team of dedicated trade experts now available on call to assist trade customers. Ward emphasises, “Our commitment to automotive businesses doesn’t stop at just a cutting-edge website. We have built a dedicated team of Trade Experts who are available seven days a week. So, if our customers need help, want to make a payment or place an order, specialised advice and assistance is only a phone call away. All in all, the new Supercheap Auto Trade offer is about saving our customers time and providing the very best value.”
Trade customers can take advantage of Supercheap Auto Trade’s programme by heading to trade.supercheapauto.co.nz and registering online.

Starting January 1, 2025, the Apprenticeship Boost will be tailored specifically to support first-year apprentices in designated critical industries. This change is aimed at providing employers with the certainty needed to hire and retain new apprentices amidst challenging economic conditions. By focusing on targeted occupations, the government aims to bridge critical skill gaps and bolster long-term success in key sectors.
The sectors identified as priorities include automotive engineering and technology, and the new focus reflects the government’s commitment to creating a skilled workforce aligned with New Zealand’s evolving economic needs. A total of $64 million has been allocated in Budget 2024 to support the continuation of Apprenticeship Boost, ensuring employers continue to receive funding until the end of
2024 under current conditions. From 2025, funding will be limited to first-year apprentices in the aforementioned critical areas.
While the inclusion of the automotive sector in the targeted industries has been welcomed, the Motor Trade Association (MTA) has voiced concerns regarding the adequacy of the financial support provided to employers. MTA Chief Executive Lee Marshall commended the continued $500 monthly subsidy, recognising its positive impact on the automotive industry. However, he highlighted the disparity between this support and the real costs employers incur when taking on apprentices.
Marshall pointed out that employers often face up to $90,000 in lost productivity and associated costs over an apprentice’s training period. The current subsidy falls short of addressing these financial burdens, compelling employers to look for skilled workers overseas
KIA HAS UNVEILED THE WORLD’S FIRST CAR ACCESSORY MADE FROM PLASTIC SOURCED FROM THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH (GPGP)
Marking a significant step in its sustainability efforts and developed in partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organisation focused on removing plastic waste from the oceans, this innovative product is part of Kia’s ongoing commitment to environmentally friendly practices and sustainable mobility.
The accessory in question is a limited-edition trunk liner specifically designed for Kia’s all-new EV3. Kia plans to make this exclusive item available to customers in selected markets, coinciding with the vehicle’s market introduction. The trunk liner is made using 40% recycled ocean plastic, demonstrating the practicality of transforming waste into functional automotive products.
Charles Ryu, Executive Vice President and Head of the Global Brand & CX Division at Kia, expressed pride in this achievement, stating that the accessory represents “tangible progress towards creating a circular resource system for ocean plastic”, emphasising the
significance of the partnership with The Ocean Cleanup in promoting environmental stewardship and innovation.
The trunk liner features a ‘geometric wave’ pattern on its surface, enhancing the aesthetic appeal but also symbolising the movement of waste into collection areas, akin to the methodology employed by The Ocean Cleanup.
Additionally, each trunk liner is equipped with a QR code that provides customers with detailed insights into the product’s development and Kia’s partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, reinforcing transparency and consumer awareness.
Kia’s launch of the trunk liner aligns with its ambitious sustainability goals. The company has announced plans to increase the use of recycled plastic in its vehicles to over 20% by 2030. This objective reflects Kia’s broader vision of becoming a pioneer in sustainable mobility, integrating eco-friendly materials across its vehicle lineup.
Recent models highlight Kia’s commitment
when domestic training becomes too expensive.
The MTA advocates for a more meaningful government contribution to support industry training. Drawing comparisons with Australia, where targeted industries receive up to $20,000 in support, Marshall asserts that a similar approach in New Zealand could prevent reliance on international recruitment and empower local industries to develop skilled workforces.
A recent task force assembled by the MTA presented a proposal to the government that includes a blueprint for industry-led automotive training, emphasising greater financial support for employers. Marshall stresses that such a structure is crucial for aligning training with industry needs, ensuring businesses acquire skilled staff, and maintaining a robust automotive sector.
The government plans to review the targeted sectors every two years, with the first review scheduled for July 2027. This ongoing assessment aims to ensure the Apprenticeship Boost scheme remains aligned with New Zealand’s economic priorities and continues to address persistent skill shortages effectively.
to sustainability, including the all-electric EV9, which uses recycled fishnets for flooring and fabric made from recycled plastic bottles for seat coverings. The EV6 also incorporates materials like cloth and matting crafted from recycled plastics, underscoring the company’s dedication to environmentally responsible manufacturing.
Boyan Slat, Founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, expressed gratitude towards Kia for their commitment and shared vision in addressing ocean plastic pollution. He noted that the innovative application of reclaimed ocean plastic in products, such as the new trunk liner, transforms waste into valuable resources.
As Kia continues to develop sustainable solutions and products, the launch of this trunk liner represents not just a new accessory but a significant step towards environmental responsibility in the automotive sector. Kia’s partnership with The Ocean Cleanup is expected to yield more products in the future as the company works towards a more sustainable approach to automotive manufacturing.

We’ve designed it to protect our products just as effectively, ensuring our customers get the same high standards they expect from GOSS.”
The first product line to benefit from this eco-friendly packaging is GOSS Genuine Alternative Ignition Coils, which covers 95% of the vehicle-on-road carparc. APPLICATIONS ARE CURRENTLY OPEN FOR A RANGE OF SCHOLARSHIPS FUNDING APPRENTICESHIPS, GRADUATE BUSINESS DIPLOMAS, ADVANCED TECHNICAL PROGRAMMES AND MANAGEMENT COURSES; MITO SCHOLARSHIP WINNER LUKE BROWN TELLS HOW THE PROGRAMME HAS HELPED ADVANCE HIS CAREER
From a young age, Luke Brown’s life was filled with the hum of engines and the thrill of speed. Growing up with a father who was a mechanic and a speedway racer, Luke naturally gravitated toward the world of cars. “I was always around cars, whether it was road cars or speedway cars. It just felt like a natural progression for me,” Luke recalls.
As he matured, his passion for the automotive world only deepened. Working alongside his father and eventually racing in speedway himself, Luke knew that his future lay in the industry.
Luke started working at Penrose Motors five years ago and hasn’t looked back.
He has now completed MITO’s New Zealand Certificate in Light Automotive Engineering (Level 3 and 4) and was awarded a 2024 MITO and Inspiring Futures Foundation Business Skills scholarship. “It was really awesome to win that. I was pretty humbled. I’ve always wanted to have my own business, and this seemed like a natural step forward.”
Grant, Luke’s supervisor, has witnessed
firsthand the qualities that set Luke apart. “He strives to do the absolute best,” Grant says. “Whether it’s his presentation, his racing, or his work ethic, he never accepts average. Luke always strives to do everything at the highest level.”
Luke’s recent promotion to foreman is a testament to his leadership abilities and commitment to excellence. “His team leadership skills have really come to the forefront,” Grant notes. “When people see his work ethic and the standards he sets, it lifts the whole shop.”
With Luke now in a leadership position where he can influence and guide others, he’s taking what he’s learning from the programme and applying it to his workplace. “We’ve got older staff, younger apprentices, and people from different cultures. It’s been quite rewarding to figure out how to get the best out of everyone, using different strategies to connect with different people,” he explains.
For Grant, Luke’s development is not just about one individual’s success but also about the future of the trade in New Zealand. “People are initially cautious about taking on new
apprentices. They’re learning and they make mistakes — they’re only human. But we have to look at the bigger picture. It’s important for the future of our trade to train our own people.”
Through it all, Luke remains grounded, valuing the support and knowledge of his colleagues and encourages anyone starting out in the industry to take advantage of that experience. “People are always willing to help and offer their advice and skills. You can’t beat the knowledge from someone who’s been doing it for years. Mistakes are going to happen, but don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
Applications are open until December for 2025 MITO and Inspiring Futures Foundation scholarships; for more information and to apply, see mito.nz/scholarships.
MITO Scholarships, in partnership with the Inspiring Futures Foundation, open for applications 7 October 2024. Scan the QR code or head to mito.nz/scholarships to apply.
The latest edition of Narva’s product catalogue has been released, and it’s larger than ever showcasing 790 new lighting and electrical products with 470 neverbefore-released products.
Designed for the trade, and hotly anticipated, the 19th edition of the Narva Catalogue features more information than ever and introduces a curated new format that was implemented following extensive consultation with automotive, industrial, and marine industries.
The new Narva releases included cover almost every product category, with extra attention paid to key lighting categories including Driving Lights, Work Lamps, Warning Lights and LED Truck and Trailer Lighting, with many of the new additions providing marketleading benefits for users.
Industry consultation has shaped the format
and layout of the latest Narva catalogue, making it more functional and easier to use than ever — the latest edition is the ideal quick reference, counter-top guide.
The new catalogue introduces revised image placement to the leading edge of the lefthand page, letting users more easily see the images on both sides of the page when flicking through, making products easier to find. New graphic icons have been introduced as well, allowing more information to be communicated in fewer words.
There are now also more line drawings included and they’re more detailed than previously, and where applicable they include information covering distance between bolt holes (centre to centre) and PCD (pitch circle diameter) for round products. This means installers can be sure their chosen product will fit within the required space.
The number of QR codes in the new catalogue has grown as well, allowing trade
professionals to quickly access product videos, application guides, tech tips and more. In the case of the new LED Truck and Trailer lighting range, QR codes link to surface CAD, letting trailer and bodybuilders access this important information more efficiently.
The catalogue also features three additional application guides covering Work Lamp, Emergency Lighting and LED Truck and Trailer Lighting — all are easily identifiable by their colour coded tables. For resellers, the catalogue includes key selling points as well as explanatory information about how to specify the most appropriate Narva products for the application.
Visit narva.co.nz for additional details on the catalogue, and for further information contact Brown & Watson International NZ Ltd, at sales@nz.brownwatson.com or on 09 525 4575.
When you think of Tyreline, top-notch tyre brands like Michelin and BF Goodrich probably spring to mind. This Hamilton-based wholesaler certainly knows its stuff, teaming up with some of the best in the business. Michelin, for instance, is a world leader in innovation, constantly pushing the boundaries to make the best tyres around.
In the repair and replacement tyre market, choices can sometimes get muddled with factors like price and customer expectations. But who’s really steering these conversations? The technicians and repair shop owners chatting with customers hold a lot of sway. Yet, it’s easy for these pros to underestimate their impact, often assuming customers will just go for the cheapest option.
Tyreline has spotted a gap in the market and is now bringing Warrior tyres to Kiwi drivers. These aren’t just any tyres; Warrior has been around since 1934, boasting a solid 90-year history. They come from the reputable Double Coin (Anhui) Warrior Tyre Ltd, a company that had Michelin as part of its ownership. That history with Michelin makes Warrior a natural fit for Tyreline’s lineup, offering a lower-priced, quality option alongside Michelin and BF Goodrich.
Tyreline’s now rolling out Warrior tyres across the country, covering everything from passenger vehicles to 4x4s, SUVs, and even light trucks. This move ensures drivers get quality tyres that tick all the right boxes for safety and affordability.
To celebrate Warrior’s debut, Tyreline and Advantage Tyres, both Blackfern preferred suppliers, have some exciting offers. Blackfern members placing orders through Tyreline or Advantage in November get entered into a draw for a Char-Griller Akorn Junior Kamado Charcoal BBQ. With two BBQs up for grabs, there’s double the chance to win!
Plus, there’s more on the table with quadruple points offered for November purchases. If you’re not part of the Blackfern crew yet, check them out at www.blackfern. coop for more details.
With Warrior tyres now in their mix, Tyreline is offering New Zealanders a well-rounded selection that balances price with quality and safety. Tyreline and Advantage contact details are contained within the Blackfern Directory distributed with this issue of Auto Channel.

BATTERIES ARE
With many benefits, it’s easy to see why more and more businesses are choosing to stock Delkor batteries. The comprehensive Delkor range offers power solutions for a wide range of applications, including automotive, commercial, deep-cycle, marine, and lawn applications, making it the only brand you need.
Delkor is part of the Clarios group, which supplies one-third of the world’s vehicle batteries. Its clientele includes leading automotive manufacturers like Toyota, Nissan, Kia and Hyundai, to name a few. Delkor automotive batteries are an award-winning range that has been awarded the prestigious Korean Standard Quality Excellence Index (KSQEI) award not once but for 18 consecutive years since 2006. This is unprecedented and a testament to Delkor’s product quality, performance, and reliability.
The Delkor automotive range consists of Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM), Enhanced Flooded (EFB), Premium Silver and Calcium batteries, all of which benefit from Delkor’s PowerFrame® grid technology. This technology is designed to provide superior and consistent starting performance with up to 60-percent better electrical flow than other grid technologies in the market. The PowerFrame® manufacturing process results in a durable frame that helps batteries resist corrosion and provides dimensional stability to withstand the harshest conditions. PowerFrame® grids are manufactured in an environmentally responsible way, using 20-per-cent less energy and producing 20-per-cent fewer greenhouse gases than other manufacturing methods.
Delkor AGM batteries are a premium choice for modern and advanced fuel-efficient vehicles with high electrical demands, such as those with Idle Stop Start (ISS) technology. When used in ISS vehicles, Delkor AGM batteries can last up to two times the life of standard batteries. They are also certified non-spillable, meaning they can be mounted in
any orientation and in an enclosed space such as the boot or cabin (with correct venting). They can also be fitted in some under-bonnet applications (heatshield may be required).
For ISS vehicles which do not require an AGM but still have high energy demands, Delkor EFB batteries are a suitable choice. A poly fleece scrim increases the battery’s endurance by stabilising the active material on the plates. Delkor EFB batteries are able to support the high electrical demands and partial State of Charge operation required by modern ISS systems.
Clarios is also at the forefront of innovation, having continuously introduced new technologies over the past 139 years to meet the evolving needs of modern vehicles. Its latest offering is the new Delkor xEV AGM range developed specifically for New Zealand’s growing EV market. These batteries are designed to meet the unique needs of electrified vehicles, including full electric vehicles (BEV), full hybrids (HEV) and plugin hybrids (PHEV). They deliver superior performance and safety regardless of whether the vehicle is in motion, stopped at a traffic light or parked in a garage.
Delkor Commercial batteries have been specifically designed for trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles. Their primary purpose is to deliver long-lasting power that allows commercial vehicles to operate reliably day in and day out. Delkor Commercial batteries are built with a high-strength polypropylene case for increased durability, anchor-bonding across the plates and a built-in spark arrestor for enhanced safety. They are also vibrationresistant and maintenance-free, which are highly sought-after features in commercial batteries. With high durability and less downtime, businesses will benefit from the lower cost of ownership and increased productivity.
A major requirement of deep-cycle batteries is the ability to withstand constant discharge
and recharge cycles. Delkor Deep Cycle batteries deliver that and so much more. These batteries are designed with thicker plates and high-density active material to endure repeated cycling. Delkor Deep Cycle batteries are also resistant to vibration and provide a maintenance-free experience, making them suitable for caravans, campers and 4WDs.
For customers wanting to experience the ultimate marine adventure, Delkor Marine batteries offer reliability for greater peace of mind. Delkor Marine batteries offer steadfast power over a long period of time. Features include a high-strength polypropylene case for increased durability and heat-sealed covers with a built-in spark arrestor for enhanced safety. They are vibration-resistant, allowing them to perform in all water-based applications. Delkor Marine batteries are also suitable for dual-purpose applications requiring both starting and cycling power.
Delkor Lawn and Garden batteries deliver superior power and performance to help keep lawns perfectly trimmed and maintained all year round. Developed with cutting-edge technology, these batteries stand up well against vibration, dirt, dust and grass in challenging climates and terrain conditions. They are also maintenance-free, contributing to a stress-free experience.
R&J Batteries is the exclusive distributor of Delkor batteries in New Zealand. The complete Delkor range is available at R&J Batteries branches in Wiri, Christchurch, Hamilton, Nelson and Albany.

PART OF ITS 40-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
NISMO HAS INTRODUCED THE Z NISMO, BUILDING ON THE FOUNDATION LAID BY THE STANDARD Z MODEL
Nissan’s renowned performance division, NISMO, has marked its 40th anniversary this year. Established on September 17, 1984, in Omori, Tokyo, NISMO — short for Nissan Motorsport — originated with a focus on enhancing Nissan’s track performance. Over the years, its racing heritage has transitioned from the track to the road, impacting the automotive world with a series of high-performance vehicles.
NISMO began its journey by spearheading Nissan’s racing projects. This track-focused expertise laid the groundwork for its first consumer offerings. In 1988, NISMO introduced its inaugural race car, derived from the Saurus roadster, designed specifically for a single-make racing series. But it was the following year that cemented NISMO’s legendary status with the debut of the Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R.
Nicknamed ‘Godzilla’ by Australian media due to its remarkable prowess in local racing championships, the Skyline R32 GT-R became synonymous with elite performance worldwide. A particular highlight was the Group A homologation version, which bore the NISMO
badge and was available for purchase by enthusiasts. Its successor, the Skyline GT-R R33, achieved the remarkable feat of being the first production car to complete the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in under eight minutes.
Building upon early successes, Nissan expanded NISMO’s DNA into a series of performance-oriented road vehicles. Models like the Juke NISMO, Patrol NISMO, Sentra NISMO, and the innovative Ariya NISMO demonstrate Nissan’s commitment to blending highperformance engineering with everyday usability.
Now NISMO has introduced the Z NISMO, building on the foundation laid by the standard Z model. The vehicle features notable enhancements aimed at elevating driving performance and pleasure. These include an increase in power output to 309kW and torque to 520Nm, a NISMO-tuned 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and updated interior and exterior styling.
Additional modifications in the Z NISMO focus on agility and control, featuring wider, lighter Rays 19-inch wheels, improved
engine cooling, and larger front brake rotors. Aerodynamic and chassis enhancements, alongside NISMO Sport+ driving mode and NISMO-tuned launch and active sound control systems, ensure a responsive and thrilling driving experience. The vehicle is also fitted with NISMO-branded Recaro seats, though heated and powered front seats are not available in this variant.
As it celebrates its 40th anniversary, NISMO continues its mission of delivering performance to car enthusiasts worldwide. “From Godzilla to the Ariya, NISMO has never stopped evolving,” says Sriram Padmanabhan, Nissan Australia’s Marketing Director. “The Z NISMO is yet another chapter in NISMO’s incredible 40-year story.”

EVS HAVE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS WHEN IT COMES TO LIFTING SOLUTIONS, INCLUDING STRONGER ARMS DUE TO THE EXTRA WEIGHT OF EV/HYBRIDS, AND LIFTING PADS THAT DO NOT GET IN THE WAY OF THE BATTERY OR ADAPTORS THAT LIFT FROM THE WHEELS
Enter Forward Lift, a well-regarded name in the automotive lifting industry, offering solutions uniquely suited to the EV sector. Both the Forward Lift I10 and FS77, which provide versatility and efficiency in automotive workshops, are well equipped to cater to modern EV service requirements.
FORWARD LIFT I10: A SYMMETRIC SOLUTION FOR MODERN WORKSHOPS
With a robust lifting capacity of 4535 kg, this model is designed to accommodate a wide array of passenger vehicles. Its Spot-Rite™ 3-Stage Front Arms is a highlight feature, offering superior adaptability for symmetric and asymmetric vehicle positioning. This design significantly reduces the risk of door damage during lifts while ensuring optimal access for technicians. The arms have been strengthened to handle the additional weight typical of EVs and hybrids, making them suitable for lifting heavier vehicles without compromising safety. Forward Lift has considered the nuances of lifting EVs, especially those with low clearance and specific lifting point requirements. The adjustable, round pad assemblies with a minimum height of 92 mm and included extensions (89 mm and 127 mm) enhance the I10’s capability to handle diverse vehicles, including exotic or unibody designs. Importantly, the lifting pads are designed to avoid obstructing the vehicle’s underbody components, such as the battery, and optional adaptors are available to lift from the wheels, further demonstrating the I10’s EV-readiness. Incorporating advanced features like topmounted direct pull lifting technology, the I10’s single-piece column design offers stability and reduced wear on components. This lifting technology ensures consistent tension on hydraulic components, enhancing durability and lessening the frequency of maintenance. Critically, the I10 utilises hard-wearing guide
blocks instead of rollers, ensuring long-term efficiency with fewer moving parts.
For workshops gearing up for EV dominance, optional adaptors for popular brands such as Tesla and Honda are available. These adaptors are industry-approved, ensuring technicians can confidently operate within manufacturer guidelines. Notably, the I10’s addition of an extended height kit, increasing overall height by 584 mm, further showcases its versatility to meet varying shop needs.
When it comes to underbody servicing, particularly for EVs, which often require wheel and brake maintenance without battery removal, the Forward Lift FS77 scissor lift is indispensable. Featured with a 3492 kg lift capacity, the FS77 boasts a sophisticated Inverse Piston Synchronisation equalisation system, ensuring smooth and reliable operation.
The FS77 is ideal for workshops focused on quick accessibility and surface areaefficient designs. Its rise height of 1997 mm, coupled with the advantage of a low-profile drive-over height of just 105 mm, makes it highly compatible with low-clearance vehicles.
Workshops can choose between surface or flush-mounted configurations, with the lift’s hinged ramps offering dual functionality. These ramps can fold up to extend the platform, allowing for enhanced pick-up point opportunities and optimised vehicle accommodation on the lift. With a diamond plate finish, the FS77 ensures durability and longevity, even in high-volume operations.
Forward Lifts’ commitment to quality and safety is underscored by its ISO9001
certification, a globally recognised benchmark in quality management. This certification affirms Forward Lift’s dedication to consistent, highquality manufacturing processes. Through the ISO9001 process, customers can rest assured that Forward Lifts undergo rigorous quality testing, promising reliability and durability.
Additionally, Forward Lifts adhere to standards set by the Automotive Lift Institute (ALI), ensuring their lifts comply with the latest safety and performance criteria. The ALI’s certification process involves independent testing and regular factory inspections, guaranteeing that lifts such as the I10 and FS77 meet the stringent safety regulations required by law.
Understanding these certifications is crucial for workshops investing in new technology and meeting the challenges of the EV era. They not only reassure that the lifts meet high safety standards but also affirm that these equipment cover the necessary safety, operational, and maintenance documentation, crucial for seamless workshop operations.
If you’re looking for lifting solutions suited to the EV sector, Forward Lifts deliver innovative lifts that adapt seamlessly to the demands of today’s automotive landscape. Whether focusing on versatile lifting with the I10 or specialised maintenance with the FS77, Forward Lifts position themselves as essential tools for modern automotive servicing, giving workshops options to be well-prepared for the continued rise of electric vehicles.
Forward Lifts are available from NAPA and Repco; speak to your local rep to find out more.
What size lift will your shop support? Some lifts might be too large for the space you have. Obviously, you’ll want to stay away from anything too big. But what about small lifts? Do they have advantages? They can. The way you answer these questions is to think about your shop’s physical space — as well as your shop’s ‘typical’ vehicle size. Two-post lifts are typically rated by their maximum load. For instance, Forward Lift’s most popular twopost lifts begin with a 4.5-tonne maximum and increase in possible weight all the way to 8-tonne. If the bulk of your business are smaller cars, you probably won’t need to think beyond a 4.5-tonne maximum. But if you’re doing work on larger trucks, you’ll likely need to look at lifts that can handle weights well above that. Only purchase lifts that are certified by the Automotive Lift Institute (ALI). When you see the ALI’s gold label, you know that an unbiased team has tested a lift for performance and safety. Consider your shop’s current floor plan. If you reconfigured it, could you get another bay out of the space? If so, you may want to consider multiple lifts to increase your efficiency and productivity. This could have a positive impact on both your revenue stream and your customer satisfaction.
Nothing can ruin a holiday faster than an unreliable battery or, worse, a dead battery. ACDelco’s proven track record as a dependable source of power makes it a top choice among travel enthusiasts in New Zealand seeking performance and reliability.

COOLDRIVE AUTO PARTS IS RENOWNED IN THE AUTOMOTIVE AFTERMARKET INDUSTRY FOR ITS COMPREHENSIVE AIR CONDITIONING PRODUCT RANGE, OFFERING BOTH OEM AND AFTERMARKET COMPONENTS FOR BOTH PASSENGER AND HEAVY-DUTY VEHICLES
The popularity of the aftermarket product range in the industry led CoolDrive to formally launch the Jayair brand in Australasia in 1999, with this year marking the brand’s 25th anniversary.
In 2011, the Jayair J Series aftermarket compressor program was launched with three key principles that still drive the program today — premium quality, reliability, and affordability.
The CoolDrive team sources its Jayair compressors from the world’s best manufacturers.
Beyond the rigorous product testing regime conducted by the manufacturers, all Jayair J Series compressors are also performance tested at CoolDrive’s own facilities prior to being packaged and
shipped to New Zealand for distribution to workshops.
CoolDrive also works closely with its suppliers to develop innovative solutions to some commonly known, problematic air conditioning systems, which usually involves developing piston or scroll compressor variants to interchange with the OE compressor.
Currently, the J Series compressor program has grown to more than
400 different compressors covering over 500 vehicle applications.
The latest addition to the J Series range is the compressor to suit the Holden Commodore VT-VZ V8, which will arrive in November.
Recent expansion of the J Series program has seen the product range now include condensers, evaporators, TX valves, and blower motors.

THE SAYING GOES YOU CAN’T BE ALL THINGS TO ALL PEOPLE, BUT THAT DOESN’T APPLY TO CENTURY BATTERIES POPULAR MULTI-PURPOSE AGM BATTERY — THE DUAL FORCE+
Utilising advanced Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Technology, the toughest internal lead components, and latest design features, along with being competitively priced, this made-for-New Zealand conditions battery has become one of the most versatile batteries on the market.
In over 15 years with Century Yuasa, National Marketing Manager Andrew Bottoms has overseen the introduction of many different batteries into the New Zealand market, but even he admits this battery offers everything you could want from an AGM.
“Built strong for New Zealand’s harsh environment and tough operating conditions, the Century Dual Force+ AGM Battery is designed to provide superior deep cycling performance and long-lasting dependable starting power for a diverse range of recreational and commercial applications. From marine systems, 4x4s, recreational vehicles and caravans to dualbattery systems and industrial equipment, this battery has such diverse applications. It really is hard to beat,” says Bottoms.
It has the ability to deliver steady power with a long cycle life that makes the deepcycle battery an ideal solution for a range of recreational applications. Deep-cycle batteries provide sustained power over extended periods
of time and are designed to be repeatedly discharged and recharged.
Unlike many competitors, AGM’s Century’s Dual Force+ is manufactured using a specialist hard-wearing Polypropylene case, which makes it ideal for use in under-bonnet applications where heat, fluids and other contaminants can damage products not built to the same specification.
“In the past it was strongly recommended you avoid fitting deep-cycle AGM batteries under the bonnet of your vehicle as this could void the warranty due to the fuel, oil and other engine lubricants causing damage to the
ABS battery casing materials. Our reinforced Polypropylene case is a game changer: it assists with heat dispersion, essential for the underbonnet temperatures 4WDs can get to, along with providing vibration and impact resistance for extreme off-road conditions,” says Bottoms.
AGM Technology also makes it safe for use in cabins and other hard-to-reach locations. AGM acts as a sponge-like material to suspend loose electrolyte within highly porous glass-fibre mat separators. This eliminates the hazards associated with acid spills or leaks, while the sealed maintenance-free design avoids the need for regular topping-up of electrolyte.
Century Deep Cycle AGM batteries have low internal resistance and low self-discharge rates, enabling faster recharge and longer shelf life. When fully charged, they can be stored for extended periods of time and conveniently recharged using a range of AGM-compatible chargers.
For more information on the Dual Force+ and the full range of Century batteries, visit centurybatteries.co.nz or contact your Century Yuasa representative on 0800 93 93 93.
Century Dual Force + are a range of true multi-purpose AGM batteries designed to deliver both superior starting power and cycling performance. Delivering up to 20x more vibration resistance and 4 x more cycle life* they are ideal for use in a range of applications where dual battery systems cannot be fitted.

CAPRICORN HAS ANNOUNCED
This marks a significant transition for the organisation, which is celebrating fifty years of supporting automotive businesses. Mark Rowe, an auto electrician by trade and a long-time business owner, brings over 25 years of experience as a Capricorn Member to his new role. He was elected to the board in October 2022, representing Queensland as a Member Director. His deeprooted connection to the automotive sector and extensive experience as a business owner provides a strong foundation for his leadership.
“I’m excited to take on the role of Chair at such a dynamic time for our industry,” said Rowe. “As Capricorn marks its 50th anniversary, I am eager to continue supporting our purpose of aiding automotive businesses in navigating today’s challenges and preparing for the future.”
The automotive industry is currently experiencing transformative changes, with new technologies and practices reshaping the landscape. Despite the uncertainties that lie ahead, Rowe is confident in Capricorn’s ability to support its members through these transitions. “While the future of the automotive
industry is not set in stone, Capricorn remains committed to being a steadfast partner for businesses, adapting and thriving alongside them,” Rowe said.
Joining Rowe in steering Capricorn’s future direction is incoming Group CEO Brad Gannon, who will assume his role on January 1, 2025. Gannon, who has worked closely with Rowe as a Board Director over the past two years, expressed his enthusiasm for the new phase of leadership. “I congratulate Mark on his appointment as Chair. His passion for the industry and Capricorn’s role in aiding business owners is evident. I look forward to working together to enhance the Capricorn Community’s benefits,” Gannon said. Rowe steps into the position following the tenure of Mark Cooper, who led the Capricorn Board for the last five years.
Cooper’s leadership period was marked by significant growth and strategic advancement for the organisation. “Mark Cooper has been instrumental in guiding Capricorn through record growth,” Rowe noted. “I aim to build on his outstanding legacy and continue to drive our organisation forward.”
As Capricorn’s new Chair, Rowe will focus on strengthening member support and navigating the evolving industry landscape. His leadership aims to build upon Capricorn’s legacy by ensuring the organisation remains a vital resource for automotive businesses.
With Gannon as CEO, the duo is poised to lead Capricorn into a period of continued growth and adaptation.
Capricorn Members, mainly small businesses in the automotive sector, enjoyed record member returns this year, with Capricorn returning $92.3 million in value to Members (up from $82.8 million in 2023). This equates to an average Member value return of 26.9% — meaning that for every dollar invested in Capricorn, Members received a 26.9c return.
The Member benefits included:
• Almost $56.6 million in Capricorn Rewards Points earned
• A trade rebate of $18.5 million paid to Capricorn Members for trade account purchases made throughout the year. This rebate was issued as Bonus Capricorn Rewards Points on each Member’s September statement.
• $15.3 million distributed to Member shareholders by way of an ordinary dividend of 7 cents per share in relation to the year
ended 30 June 2024.
According to Capricorn Group CEO David Fraser, this outstanding 2024 financial result further emphasises the rewarding benefits of being a Capricorn Member. “It is so pleasing to be able to report another set of record results for Capricorn Members across Australia and in New Zealand,” he said.
“Members can be confident that Capricorn is in the best shape of its 50-year history, and the returns that they have gained prove that together we are stronger than ever. These results also highlight our Members’ and Preferred Suppliers business growth that has been achieved during the year, playing an integral role in achieving this outstanding result,” he added.

BRAND FILM SETS THE STAGE FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF VOLKSWAGEN’S LATEST MODEL, THE ALL-NEW ID. BUZZ
Volkswagen New Zealand has introduced a new campaign celebrating the special connection between Kiwis and their Volkswagens, highlighting how these vehicles are more than just transportation. The ‘YourVW’ campaign, anchored by a recently released brand film, explores the everyday interactions between drivers and their Volkswagens, and it taps into the longstanding affection Kiwis have for the brand.
The ‘YourVW’ campaign film portrays scenes familiar to many New Zealanders: the daily commute, family outings, weekend trips, and even mundane errands. Through these moments, Volkswagen emphasises that its vehicles are brought to life by the people who drive them. From ‘WalkiesVW’ trips with the family dog to ‘Mum’sVW’ for the school run, the film captures the personal ways these vehicles integrate into daily life.
Helena Schultz, Head of Marketing at olkswagen New Zealand, explains, “The
‘YourVW’ campaign is all about recognising the role Volkswagens play in Kiwi families’ lives. For many, a Volkswagen becomes a part of the family, with some owners even celebrating their cars’ birthdays or naming them. We wanted this campaign to honour our owners and highlight that unique connection.”
Beyond the film, Volkswagen is giving its owners a platform to share their personal Volkswagen stories. As part of the campaign, every Volkswagen owner in New Zealand is invited to upload their memories, showcasing how their vehicles have become part of their lives. This new digital platform will allow owners to connect, celebrate milestones, and share experiences.
Volkswagen’s focus is on creating a community that embraces these stories and fosters connections between VW owners across New Zealand. Schultz adds, “YourVW will serve as a hub for all our communications, celebrating the memories people have with their Volkswagens and strengthening the owner community.”

The ‘YourVW’ campaign also serves as a fitting stage for the introduction of Volkswagen’s latest model, the all-new ID. Buzz. This fully electric vehicle is inspired by the classic Kombi, a model beloved by generations of Kiwis for its role in road trips and family adventures. With the ID. Buzz, Volkswagen is looking to bring that nostalgic spirit into the electric era, capturing the hearts of both old fans and new.
Kevin Richards, General Manager of Commercial Vehicles, shares his excitement for the ID. Buzz, saying, “The ID. Buzz will revive cherished memories and create new ones for today’s drivers. It’s a symbol of modern freedom, blending our brand’s heritage with sustainable innovation.”
Set to arrive in New Zealand dealerships in 2025, the ID. Buzz is already generating significant interest among Volkswagen enthusiasts eager to explore the future of electric vehicles.

INJECTRONICS, A PROMINENT PLAYER IN THE AUTOMOTIVE REMANUFACTURING AND REPAIR SECTOR IN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND, HAS INTRODUCED A 48-HOUR TURNAROUND SERVICE AIMED AT ASSISTING AUTOMOTIVE WORKSHOPS IN RETURNING VEHICLES TO CUSTOMERS MORE EFFICIENTLY
This new service is intended to support mechanics across New Zealand and Australia by providing a reliable and cost-effective solution for various electronic component repairs.
As automotive workshops face heightened expectations for efficiency — particularly amid rising inflationary pressures — Injectronics’ latest initiative seeks to address the critical need for rapid repairs. The company aims to offer workshops a dependable alternative to sourcing new components, thereby enhancing customer satisfaction and reducing vehicle downtime.
A significant aspect of this 48-hour service is rooted in Injectronics’ relocation to a stateof-the-art facility in Keysborough and its expansion in Onehunga. These developments
have enabled the company to bolster its production capacity and processing speed. The investment in modern technology has facilitated the automation of repair processes, which in turn allows for quicker diagnostics and remanufacturing of electronic components while upholding stringent quality controls.
Injectronics has been a leader in the remanufacturing field for over 40 years, and this new service represents a commitment to both time efficiency and environmental sustainability. The 48-hour turnaround applies to a range of electronic components, including engine control modules, ABS units, transmission controllers, and electronic throttle bodies. For mechanics, the ability to access repaired parts within 48 hours can significantly impact workflow and productivity, enabling faster vehicle turnaround times and improving overall shop output.
Rajbir Singh, General Manager of Injectronics, emphasises the importance of this service for everyday drivers and mechanics alike, “We understand how disruptive it can be when a vehicle is off the road, whether it’s a parent who cannot drop off their children or an employee missing work. Our 48-hour turnaround
service is designed to alleviate some of that pressure, ensuring that cars are returned to the road as quickly as possible.”
To further enhance the repair process, Injectronics has implemented an online booking system that simplifies the arrangement for workshops. This new system allows mechanics to log in, arrange for repairs, and track the progress of their components throughout the remanufacturing process. Accessible via injectronics.co.nz, this user-friendly platform is designed to save time and reduce the administrative burden on busy workshops.
With four locations throughout New Zealand and Australia, workshops can easily take advantage of Injectronics’ 48-hour service. When a component is submitted for repair through the online system, it undergoes a comprehensive diagnostic assessment. If repairable, it is restored to meet highquality standards and dispatched back to the workshop within the promised 48-hour timeframe.
By integrating a streamlined booking platform with their cutting-edge technology and rapid service offerings, Injectronics is positioning itself to make a significant impact on the automotive repair landscape. The company’s commitment to efficiency not only benefits mechanics but also plays a crucial role in ensuring that customers experience minimal interruptions in their vehicle usage.
THE BOOST BUSINESS LOAN OFFERS QUICK AND EASY ACCESS TO CAPITAL FUNDING BETWEEN $10,000 AND $200,000 VIA THE CONVENIENCE OF AN ONLINE APPLICATION, WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF FUNDING UP TO 100 PER CENT OF AVERAGE MONTHLY SALES
ScotPac has been a cornerstone in the financial landscape of New Zealand and Australia for over 35 years, offering a broad spectrum of financing solutions for businesses. As New Zealand and Australia’s largest non-bank business lender, ScotPac understands the challenges SMEs face, particularly in managing cashflow.
BUSINESS LOAN: A RESPONSE TO MARKET
ScotPac has recently launched the Boost Business Loan, a revolutionary new product for New Zealand businesses that responds to their demands for quick and easy access to capital via the convenience of an online application.
Lindsay Fisher, general manager of ScotPac New Zealand, says, “Whatever the need, New Zealand SME owners have made it clear they want a fast and flexible finance product with the convenience of an online application process. That is exactly what a Boost Business Loan delivers.”
ScotPac’s Boost Business Loan does not impose industry restrictions, which fills a critical gap in the market for diverse New Zealand businesses that have, until now, been underserved by quick and easy capital options. This shift in access has the potential to benefit many previously uncatered-for business owners.
The Boost Business Loan gives businesses access to lending ranging from $10,000 to $200,000, contingent upon their monthly sales, with the possibility of funding up to 100 per cent of average monthly sales. This setup is particularly helpful for automotive businesses with variable sales patterns when managing a fluctuating cash flow.
This financial flexibility is enhanced by loan terms of six to 24 months, with no penalties for early repayment, offering businesses an adaptive financial planning framework. Additionally, the absence of security requirements for loans under $100,000 is particularly beneficial for automotive businesses and smaller ventures.
Key to ScotPac’s Boost Business Loan’s attraction is its straightforward, fully online application process, which significantly reduces
the bureaucratic hurdles often associated with business financing. Businesses can benefit from the expedited availability of funds, which are accessible within 24 hours of approval.
ScotPac’s innovative lending approach utilises a fintech platform powered by a datadriven credit decision engine that provides fast and accurate credit assessments, which means clients quickly get information on an approval.
Fisher says introducing the Boost Business Loan product is a direct response to market calls for fast cashflow support: “This gamechanging new product provides a solution to the previous gap in the market for a fast online product that delivers funding when businesses need it most. Whether SMEs need to stock up, expand their space, or hire a team, a Boost Business Loan gives them the capital to act fast, with funds available within 24 hours of approval. Similarly, if a good business with variable cashflow needs a fast cash injection to meet its monthly tax bill or an unexpected cost, ScotPac’s Boost Business Loan is there to help.”
Qualifying for a ScotPac Boost Business Loan is straightforward: a New Zealand business needs to have been trading in the same location for at least six months and be able to demonstrate a minimum turnover of $10,000 per month in sales. After meeting those criteria, applicants are required to provide six months of business bank statements, and while over 80 per cent of the loans are unsecured, having a strong asset base can enhance approval rates and increase the loan amount, e.g., Boost Business Loan lending over $100,000 will require security. The fee structure is straightforward, too, with no application fee or account-keeping fees and only one up-front flat fee and drawdown fee structure that is paid off via the loan repayments.

An automotive customs business wanted funds to purchase new tools and equipment for their workshop. ScotPac assisted with an unsecured loan of $50,000 funded into the client’s account within 24 hours of approval.

A smash repair business wanted funds to purchase more equipment and to refinance what was left of an existing loan. ScotPac assisted with a secured loan of $175,000 funded into the client’s account within 24 hours of approval.

In a little workshop in Pukekohe, something special is taking shape: potentially the world’s first Carbon Kevlar-bodied convertible drift car. Meet Chase Brown, the brains behind this gamechanging 2012 twin-turbo BMW E93 cabriolet that he plans to send sideways. Chase’s journey with this BMW began with a steal from a friend’s grandma - a grand and a “feed of fish” was all it took to snag it off her lawn.
Originally, he planned to strip it down for a Eurofighter project, but space issues meant it sat idle for four years. Then, last September, with his workshop finally built, Chase dove in headfirst. Initially just aiming to get it running, he ended up wielding an angle grinder, cutting out anything unnecessary. One night, curiosity struck, and Chase dug out an E46 RocketBunny-styled kit from storage.
Jack Mayo from Hawke’s Bay is currently spinning tools on his 1981 Toyota Cressida Wagon (GX60). He’s been the proud owner of this classic beauty for roughly seven years, originally running the factory 1G-EU paired with the factory W55 manual box.
Early in his build journey, Jack binned the factory suspension and replaced it with adjustable coilovers supplied by Manon Racing Products (MRP). As always, adjustable suspension requires certification, so this gave him the perfect excuse to start looking into engine-swap options, killing two birds with one stone. And what motor did he choose?
The infamous and unbreakable 1UZ-FE from a neglected Lexus LS400, which, according to Jack, had “just as much corrosion as the Titanic” and “made perfect sense to slap in the old girl”.
Thanks to the skilled hands of Josh Steeg and the boys at United Automotive in Hastings (Cameron Symon and James Roberts), they quickly pulled the motor out of the neglected Lexus and made sure it turned over before going any further in their V8 swap journey. Being a Toyota motor, there were no issues, so it was on to the next step: setting up the gearbox. Jack decided he wanted to keep the W55 manual box, but it wasn’t a direct bolt up to the 1UZ. Luckily, good bloke Kevin from The Cartune Company came to the rescue
with a bellhousing conversion kit and valuable advice on how to keep the build on track. It was a tight fit, but United Automotive managed to install the motor and gearbox.
Jack claims that it was “meant to be”, as the drive-shaft and radiator required zero modifications. The boys are now working on the exhaust manifolds to suit the snug setup by cutting and shortening the original set. But the journey doesn’t end there; the next phase involves the wiring and ECU set-up.
As soon as he saw those wide guards on the E93, he knew this wouldn’t be a quick fix. Late nights and litres of bog later, he had the kit fitted to the car, but that wasn’t enough. He hacked it up, stretched it, and moulded it into something entirely new, with more bog and expanding foam than actual fibreglass. Then came the tricky part: wrapping the whole thing in Carbon Kevlar, a material he’d only dabbled with before when he made Kevlar doors for his boss S14. “It SUCKS to work with,” he says Chase may not be an expert, but he’s a builder learning as he goes, with YouTube as his guide. But everything you see on the E93 - EVO V RESURRECTION from the custom cage to the carbon wing - is his handiwork, especially the carbon doors that still have working electric windows.
What’s next for Chase? More power, naturally. Nitrous, bigger turbos, and antilag are all on the cards, alongside upgraded suspension and brakes, plus an angle kit for more lock. And don’t forget the full roll cage that’s in the works.
The next big challenge is upgrading the trunk and roof components to fully Carbon Kevlar while keeping them compatible with the electrical convertible system. Chase’s Kiwi spirit and backyard innovation are proof that with a little ingenuity and a lot of determination, anything’s possible. So keep your eyes peeled - this Pukekohe-built beast is about to make some serious noise and change the game.
Aaron Wilkie from Revolution is set to weave his magic in the coming weeks. Jack hasn’t settled on the ECU yet, but he’s excited about the options from Link, giving him the flexibility to take this build as deep as he desires. Jack’s vision for his V8-powered wagon is clear: a smooth-sounding Sunday cruiser that can unleash its power on demand.
He’s super eager to hit the New Zealand roads, cruising around Hawke’s Bay, keeping away from “our recent rain events” and dodging potholes. He’s twiddling his thumbs as he eagerly awaits summer with the sounds of a V8 symphony.
A’68 Dodge Charger with a 2006 Dodge Viper 8.3-litre (506ci) V10, a couple of war whistles dangling from the sides, and the ability to punch out 1400hp is not an easy task to accomplish.
However, Dunedin’s Kent Lobb has achieved just this feat, though it has no doubt been difficult and expensive. Imported from Tennessee, on arrival the car sported a tunnel-rammed 440ci big block, a 727 TorqueFlite transmission and an 8¾-inch diff, and an ugly-as-sin Line-X paint job (if you are unfamiliar with what that would be, think of underbody seal applied all over the car’s exterior panels). Though the previous owner stated that it had been taken to bare metal and epoxy primed before getting a coat of the ugly stuff, all Kent had was his word.
Stripping back the car revealed that the previous owner had been telling the truth, but it did have a couple of rear-quarter Americanstandard repairs that were not up to I-Car New Zealand repair standards, which needed to be sorted correctly for there to be any chance of getting the car on the road legally. While all this was going on, a one-in-a-million find popped up on Trade Me: a 2006 Viper 8.3-litre V10 engine.
The idea of a Dodge car with modern Dodge running gear seemed like a good idea, and quickly jumping at the deal, Kent then decided to twin turbo it with the help of Turbochargers NZ for a little extra wow factor
If you’ve been following our Fabrication series, the name Taylor Peterson might ring a bell.
Taylor, renowned for his incredible fabrication skills at his Dunedin-based workshop, Peterson Fabrication, has been cooking up quite a storm with their latest project.
They took on the challenge of reviving what might have been the rustiest ‘74 XP Ford Falcon known to man — a true diamond in the rough. If it weren’t for some photos taken before the transformation began, you’d be hard-pressed to believe it’s the same car. Their journey started with Steve Johnson ’65 Ford Falcon, stripping it down to the bare bones and securing it to their mock-up jig.
Then, they dropped a set of custom-made Billet Specialties 18x11-inch wheels beneath it, setting the stage for the rebirth. The transformation involved RUST TO RICHES fabricating rear chassis rails, connectors, a fully custom floor, tubs, firewall, and inner guards. The result? More fresh steel than rust, turning it from a relic into a work of art. At the heart of this beast lies a 332 cubic inch Windsor engine, meticulously assembled with AFR heads and a CHS-spec solid roller cam, courtesy of Engine Reconditioning Services. This powerhouse is married to a C4 transmission, built by Nigel at Transgear.
The whole drivetrain is seamlessly connected by one of Peterson Fabrication’s specialties
— a custom-built chromoly driveshaft and a 9-inch diff. It’s equipped with a custom 4-link rear suspension and Wilwood brakes to ensure it not only looks fantastic but performs like a dream. To keep everything in line, with the right amount of stopping power and precise steering, they’ve incorporated RSS components from down under.
Inside, Lewis at Tinwald Canvas and Upholstery has crafted a luxurious red leather interior that oozes style and comfort. PD’s Auto Electrical tackled a full rewire and sound system, ensuring this ride not only looks the part but sounds great too. The list of modifications is extensive, from tucked bumpers and Kindig door handles to deleted

BEEN RECOGNISED
After five years of placing in the top 10, this year’s award has seen Ryco come first for their N99 MicroShield Cabin Air Filters range for commercial vehicles. The range of cabin filters was designed with drivers in mind, with it being the only filter that does not directly affect the engine of a vehicle, serving as an important addition in trucks that are at times fitted with a basic leaf tray.
In commenting on the BOSS magazine award, Ryco General Manager of Engineering, Innovation & Quality, Alastair Hampton, said the company was determined to develop something that served their customers in a way that hadn’t been considered previously: “For a lot of truck drivers, their cabin serves as their office, their bedroom, and their main living
space while on the road. With that in mind, it’s critical that they have the cleanest environment possible while on the road, and the best way to achieve that is with efficient filtration in the HVAC system.”
Developed to remove down to 0.3 microns at 99.7% efficiency, its construction is comprised of three layers; the first is a pre-filter with an anti-viral agent eliminating airborne H1N1/ H3N2 virus from the airflow; the second is an activated carbon layer that acts as an odour barrier; and the third is an electrostatically charged layer for optimum particle filtration. The 360-degree air-tight seal also prevents air from bypassing the filter, a common issue found in some OE cabin filters.
“People are most often certain that the only
percentage of polluted air they’re comfortable inhaling is 0%. We’re proud to have designed something that gets as close to that as possible, unseen elsewhere in the market,” says Hampton. Ryco’s N99 MicroShield Cabin Filter range is now available for over 500,000 trucks on Australian and New Zealand roads.

FOUNDED IN APRIL 1984, PG HYDRAULICS HAS GROWN INTO ONE OF NEW ZEALAND’S MOST RESPECTED BUSINESSES FOR STEERING SYSTEMS, OFFERING SOLUTIONS THAT SPAN FROM TRADITIONAL HYDRAULIC STEERING TO MODERN ELECTRIC SYSTEMS
At the helm of this thriving company is Phil Game, a quiet but confident expert in his field, whose passion for innovation and engineering has been the cornerstone of PG Hydraulics’ success. From its humble beginnings, PG Hydraulics has evolved to become the go-to business for steering repairs and custom builds in New Zealand. Phil Game’s hands-on approach and deep understanding of the industry have shaped the company into what it is today — trusted by both everyday car owners and specialists for some of the most complex and demanding steering projects.
The company’s reputation is built on a foundation of experience and reliability. The staff at PG Hydraulics — ten in total — have an average of 30 years of service each. This remarkable figure is a testament to the work culture and the loyalty that Phil has fostered. It’s clear that the team members not only enjoy their work but are passionate about the challenges and variety of projects they take on daily.
One of the key factors behind PG Hydraulics’ success is its ability to handle unique and difficult projects, whether it be a vintage restoration or a bespoke steering system for a one-off vehicle. From restoring the steering on a historic Dodge ambulance for St. Johns to a complete rebuild and conversion of a classic Rolls Royce, the team at PG Hydraulics has proven time and again that no project is too complex.
The company’s capability extends beyond just repair work. PG Hydraulics holds a vast inventory of new and used parts to support its operations, ensuring that customers receive timely service. This stock includes everything from genuine German-made seals and highquality Japanese and European bearings to custom Unisteer universals and KRC pulley components. Phil is adamant about the quality of the parts used in the business, steering clear of low-grade products and focusing instead on durability and performance.
In recent years, with an increasing number of cars now equipped with electric power steering systems, PG Hydraulics moved to larger premises and invested in new equipment and staff training to stay ahead of this trend. These changes positioned the company as a leader in the growing field of electric steering system repairs. Today, PG Hydraulics repairs and ships an average of five manual steering racks per day. According to Phil, this high demand is due to the fact that
while modern vehicles may have electric power steering, it is often assisted by a manual rack, which wears out more quickly due to the added forces placed upon it by the electric assist system.
One of the company’s more unique offerings is its right-hand drive conversion steering box, built using billet housings and specially adapted internals. The business is supported by a fully equipped in-house machine shop, which enables both R&D work and the repair of complex steering components. With five vehicle hoists, PG Hydraulics has the capability to perform detailed inspections and repairs on a variety of vehicles, adding to the business’s versatility.
Outside of the daily grind at PG Hydraulics, Phil Game has a personal passion for hot rods, muscle cars, and speedway racing. Recently, he returned to the racing circuit after a long hiatus, competing in the Methanol Masters race in Cromwell. Despite a gap of 16 years since he last raced, Phil was able to dust off his 20-yearold sprint car, make a few upgrades, and return to the track with enthusiasm. His efforts paid off, as he posted quick lap times, won several heats, and ultimately finished fifth in the feature race — an impressive result for a 62-year-old racing in a nearly vintage car.
Today, PG Hydraulics stands as an industry leader in steering solutions, with a reputation built on decades of experience, a skilled and dedicated team, and a commitment to quality and innovation.
From the cutting-edge of electric steering systems to the restoration of classic vehicles, the team at PG Hydraulics continues to meet the needs of customers across New Zealand.
