SENIORS WHO WILL BE ATTENDING VHCC:

We encourage all seniors to complete a VHCC Foundation Scholarship Application! Schedule a meeting with us and we will help you! https://vhccscholarships.awardspring.com/

This year, each high school will be bringing seniors to VHCC campus for a tour, information sessions, and to enroll in your classes! So exciting!

Here are the dates we have so far:

April 8: PHHS and HHS April 17: VHS (tour only - added dates coming soon)

April 22: CHS April 24: NHS

JUNIORS - If you want to get a closer look at what a “day-in-the-life” of your desired career field is like, it’s time to fill out the application for the UB Job Shadowing program called SCORE.

Applications need to be completed by March 27 so that we can get placement during your spring break if possible.

We can also set up summer job shadowing If you are interested, scan the QR code for more information & to apply.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!! It's time to think about Summer Academy 2025! Student heroes...be ready to battle for the Infinity Gauntlet during the 2025 Upward Bound Infinity Wars!

Pick your summer hero:

Iron Man (Math)

Thor (Science)

Captain America (English/Composition)

Earn Infinity Stones for your team with weekly life skills, activities, and field trips:

Time Stone - week 1

Reality Stone - week 2

Mind Stone - week 3

Soul Stone - week 4

Power Stone - week 5

Your Marvel itinerary also includes but is not limited to:

An online language class with a special culture day (students get to vote on this during registration)

Field trips that include hiking, a visit to the Bristol Motor Speedway and ETSU Digital Media/Pixar Labs, Radford University, and Barter Theater to see Frozen

Etiquette Luncheon

Chips, dips, and tips with guest speakers

Stay overnight in dorms on the campus of Emory & Henry College (limited to Juniors & Seniors)

Breakfast & lunch everyday

A day of community service

An end of summer cook-out celebration with family at the lake

And our journey will come to an end at our final destination the UB summer trip!

HHS UB Senior, Sadie Milhorne has been busy! Recently she auditioned for All VA Choir, participated in All District Choir as 5th chair alto, has been preparing for Music Education auditions at Appalachian State, ETSU, E&H and VCU. She took a trip to the capital with 4-H to speak with legislators, has applied to the ETSU Honor’s College ChangeMaker Scholars Program, and is also in a spring ballet recital dancing as the White Witch in the “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe!

“Being in the HEALS Program has given me great opportunities to get more involved in healthcare Currently, I take DE courses such as Anatomy & Physiology and Ethics for Healthcare through the program. Being interested in pediatric oncology, I’ve been able to shadow 15+ hours in oncology to gain knowledge & experience of what it’s like I’ve been able to do hands-on experience with this program such as getting CPR certified, learning how to give vaccines, dissecting things we learn about, & so much more. As this year & next go on, I’m looking forward to more hands-on experience in healthcare This program has helped me excel in multiple ways I look forward to my future in this program. ” -Zoey Schein

PHHS UB Senior, McKenzie Wise recently visited Washington DC with 4H Within her active role in 4H she was recently awarded 4H-er of the year! She has also completed 2 years of serving on the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Advisory Committee.

Abby Sobal (CHS) was accepted into the Virginia Tech College of Engineering & we recently took her to meet with faculty, current students, & tour the VT College of Engineering! She was also able to complete her job shadowing with HAPCO

CHS students, Kage Price & Allyson Gutierrez competed in the VHSL super-region speech (formerly "forensics") event where Kage placed 2nd in Storytelling & Allyson placed 2nd in Impromptu Speech!

Allyson placed 2nd in her event at the FBLA New River Region Spring Conference She has qualified for state competition in April! She also completed a 1 month SAT Prep Course!

Kage completed his job shadowing as a future educator with faculty members at VHCC.

Congratulations to Thelma Kestner (NHS), Dee Hoover (NHS), Allyson Gutierrez (CHS), Abby Sobal (CHS), and Olivia Gentry (CHS) for All County Band Honors!

Kendon Lester (VHS) had a successful wrestling season this year She recently wrestled in the boys bracket at the SWD Tournament!

Victoria Feliciano (right) & Bailee Singleton (left) competed at FBLS Regionals Congrats to Victoria for 1st place in Introduction to Business Presentations!!
