PLAN

Veterans Community Project (VCP) is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in Kansas City, MO by a group of combat Veterans frustrated by the rampant homelessness within the Veteran population.

From providing innovative, transitional housing to walk-in support services, VCP assists any Veteran who took the oath to protect our country, regardless of discharge status or type of service.

An astounding 85% of Veterans in VCP Village successfully transition to sustainable, long-term housing of their own. Hundreds more have mitigated the threat of homelessness by utilizing VCP case management and emergency assistance funds through the VCP Outreach Center.

Using the success of Kansas City as a blueprint, Veterans Community Project (VCP) has the long-term goal of preventing and ending Veteran homelessness across the nation.

10%

According to the 2023 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Annual Homelessness Assessment Report, 10% of St. Louis’ homeless population are Veterans.

VCP of St. Louis Campus

Located on a nearly 4-acre property in the heart of the Jeff–Vander–Lou neighborhood, the Veterans Community Project campus includes a tiny home village for Veterans experiencing homelessness, the VCP Village Center, and the VCP Outreach Center to provide walk-in support services for any Veteran in the St. Louis metro area.

This new campus not only provides critical resources but also:

• Beautifies a once blighted area, increasing property values of surrounding area

• Strengthens St. Louis’ social services sector

• Becomes a source of civic pride

• Provides ongoing opportunities for community volunteerism

Each tiny home is painted to represent a branch of the military: USA (green), USMC (red), USAF (gray), USN (blue), and USCG (yellow)

VCP Village

Veterans Community Project of St. Louis is a specialized community of 50 tiny homes that provide sanctuary and the emotional space needed for each Veteran to thoroughly address the underlying causes of homelessness.

The homes are built on concrete foundations, connect to city utilities, and meet all code requirements for new construction. Each furnished home features a full kitchen, bathroom, and living space.

Single occupancy homes are 240 square feet; the Village’s ten family homes are 320 square feet and accommodate a family of five.

VCP Village Center

Serving as a “base camp” for residents, the Village Center is a hub for VCP’s continuum of care and a place for residents to connect and build strong networks of support. With various private offices for case management, classroom spaces, and a fellowship hall for social events, the Village Center promotes the physical and mental well-being of Village residents and enhances their sense of community.

VCP Outreach Center

The Outreach Center, located at 1515 N. Grand Blvd, provides walk-in services to any Veteran in the St. Louis metro area. Since its opening in August 2023, VCP has proudly assisted hundreds of Veterans with navigating the VA and their benefits, emergency assistance funds, food, and employment support among other services.

Join Our Mission

Veteran homelessness is a heartbreaking reality. Too many men and women who once stood tall in uniform now stand alone, battling isolation, fear, and hopelessness. VCP is on a mission to end Veteran homelessness and we can’t do it alone.

We are fueled by individuals, foundations, and corporations who want to do more than thank a Veteran for their service. Over the next year, hundreds of community volunteers will help build VCP Village; thousands more will help serve our Veterans for years to come.

The Campaign

The “Building Community, Changing Lives” campaign helps ensure that all St. Louis Veterans have access to the critical support services they need. The campaign funds all elements associated with the new campus, including VCP Village, the VCP Village Center, and the VCP Outreach Center.

The campaign has many ways to give, including significant campus recognition for our most generous supporters.

Make Veterans Community Project part of your legacy and seize the opportunity to join us as a founding partner. You will not only change the lives of countless Veterans and their families, but the overall well-being of the St. Louis community as well.

Your support is about one thing: investing the lives of those who once invested in us.

“This new community provides Missouri veterans a safe place to live with dignity and security as they transition out of homelessness. Far more than just a place to live, Veterans will find a space for healing with resources to help them rebuild their lives.”

Senator Jill Schupp
