e Bombardment truly wonderful and poignant

THE BOMBARDMENT also known as e Shadow In My Eye, is directed by Ole Bornedal and focuses on the events that happened during a time when an underground insurgency was slowly gathering more support in Denmark and eventually came to be known as the Danish Resistance Movement. e lm has just landed on Net ix.
History chronicles events relatively, and in doing so, it caters to the bigger things at the helm, often forgetting the minor details. But these minor details have stories hidden behind them that have a ected millions of people and shaped their lives forever. ese events that history generally describes in a line or two, are inched in the memories of those who unfortunately became a part of it. One such event was Operation Carthage, aimed at bombarding Gestapo Headquarters. ough it was a successful mission, so to say, the British Air Force accidentally destroyed a nearby building too. Many members of the resistance movement who were held as prisoners in Gestapo Headquarters were able to escape, but hundreds of civilians lost their lives in the carnage, a majority of whom were children.
Humanity was lost in oblivion, and keeping faith was becoming di cult every passing day. e people had to face so much cruelty and so much injustice that often they asked themselves, what kind of God would let all this happen? What do you tell a child who has lost his parents at a tender age? How do you tell a mother or a father to keep the faith after they nd their children buried inside the rubble?
Films like e Bombardment which h is poignant and wonderful in its acting and its camera work, are a testament to the fact that every party loses something or other in a war. Nobody wins; rather, it just becomes an accumulation of losses, and whoever has the smaller pile is declared victorious. e Bombardment stands apart as it never really gets preachy about the subject matter, rather it creates imagery that has the potential to haunt you for life. Be it a little girl coming out of the rubble, a nun questioning the mere existence of God amidst such chaos and debauchery, or a teenage boy who has a phobia of the open sky.
It is astonishing how, even in times of despair, people are able to nd moments that bring a smile to their faces. is is the most beautiful and intriguing aspect of the human spirit, that no matter how tough the times get, you never lose hope and also never forget to seize a moment that can bring you happiness, no matter how adverse the situations around you might get.
Just look now at what is happening in Ukraine. e members of the Danish Resistance Movement were constantly asking the British Forces to bomb the headquarters of the Gestapo in Copenhagen, at the Shell House. e Gestapo kept the members of the resistance on the top oor of the headquarters so that in case the air forces attacked them, the prisoners would act as a human shield.
To tell you any more of this truly wonderful pic e of cinema would be to spoil your enjoyment.
Yet, more good ones for you to stream

SENIOR HURLING Clara played their first game of 2022 on Sunday when they clashed with Camross of Laois in a keenly contested Leinster League fixture in Clara. On an understandably heavy pitch the two teams served up a decent contest, with the home side taking the victory by the minimum margin. 2-16 to 1-18 was how it finished. James Casey opened the scoring with a fine point and a er a couple of bad wides Liam Ryan hit a blistering shot to the Camross net. Any illusions of an easy win were quickly dispelled however as Camross settled to get a few scores themselves, despite playing into a strong breeze. Clara then hit a bit of a purple patch and led 1-8 to 0-4 a er 20 minutes. Then Camross scored an unanswered 1-2 to leave just two points in it. Clara responded well and claimed four of the last five points of the half. This put them 1-12 to 1-7 ahead at the break. Camross scored 5 of the first 6 points of the second half and had their tails up but a Conor O Shea free was then followed by the most crucial score of the game. Paul Cody gained possession about 40 yards from goal and a er making a bit of ground, he went for goal when a point seemed the safest option. He was rewarded for his courage when the top corner of the net shook, and suddenly the lead was back to five. This score just about gave them the breathing space to scrape home, as Camross scored six of the last eight points to come up agonisingly short at the finish. Best for the winners were Jack and David Langton and Shane Staunton in defence and Martin O Connell, Paul Cody and Liam Ryan up front. Team - Kevin Nolan, Paddy Ryan, Jack Langton, Tom Ryan. James Casey 0-1, David Langton 0-1f, Shane Staunton. James Nolan, Conor O Shea 0-4f. Jason Byrne, Martin O Connell 0-5, Paul Cody 1-1. Peter Nolan, Joe Connolly, Liam Ryan 1-4. Subs used Killian Phelan, Ciarán Prendergast, Dara Glynn, Alan Coleman, Evan Whearty. DUNNAMAGGIN DEVELOPMENT GROUP Sunday last, March 13th the village of Dunnamaggin launched its five year plan a ‘Vision for Dunnamaggin’. The process took a year to complete because as Rosie from Workhouse Union says ‘community development is inclusive and collaborative and takes time to involve everyone and listen to and hear all voices. When there is a pandemic, it takes that little bit longer’. The end product with its recommendations has been worth the wait. ‘The plan itself is very real, implementable and sustainable’ said Declan Rice CEO of KLP. Local councillor Matt Doran agreed with Declan and pledged his support for the next stage – accessing funding for ‘Madges Garden’. Madges Garden will be a pocket park for the village that will have multiple uses - hosting monthly markets, a safe, accessible space for children to play and adults to gather, a sustainable pollen friendly garden and a reimagining of the sheds into an arts space for cra making and performance. None of the events we have run or the process of developing the Vision for Dunnamaggin would have been possible without the support of Kilkenny Leader Partnership and Kilkenny County Council. Most importantly it would not have been possible without the support of the community and the collaboration with local organisations including the GAA, Ladies Football and the Pat Walsh Committee. This Vision is a resource to be used by all of us to further the development of all the organisations within Dunnamaggin. March 27th 2022 the community gathering from 11.30am to 1pm will be a Cake Sale and Co ee Morning for Ukraine. Please come and support. April 17th - Easter Sunday our first market of the year will take place in Madges Garden alongside the Pat Walsh commemoration. KELLS HANDBALL CLUB U14/15 40x20 Team Leinster Champions.
