Hunt now on for new James Bond

THE search for a new James Bond is on, now that Daniel Craig pictured) has hung up his Walther PPK. No Time To Die marked the nal lm of Craig’s tenure which means that we will see a new James Bond... eventually. ere’s been little word as to who is in contention and as our new James Bond list shows, there are a lot of great actors out there who could take on the 007 mantle. But, for some, time isn’t on their side. e likes of Tom Hardy, who has always been a favourite and currently tops our list with nearly a thousand votes, is 44 so if he were to do it then something would have to happen soon.
Well, we now have some information about the search and things are happening but very slowly. According to MGM boss Pamela Abdy, who has been speaking to e Hollywood Reporter about her career, the search for a new James Bond is currently “wide open” but talks have begun between the producers.
“We’ve had very early preliminary conversations with Barbara [Broccoli] and Michael [Wilson], but we wanted Daniel to have his last hurrah.”
No Time To Die made the quick dash from the big screen to Premium VOD recently so Craig’s “last hurrah” is nearing its end, which means that the hype machine for a new James Bond is almost certain to start soon.
Whatever happens, it’s likely that we will get a full reboot for the franchise but it would be good to see some current characters make the shift over.
Continuity hasn’t exactly been a forte with the franchise — Dame Judi Dench moving from Pierce Brosnan’s Bond to Craig’s was a shrewd move but didn’t exactly make sense — but introducing the likes of Lashana Lynch’s Nomi and Ana de Armas’ Paloma, two great characters, and not revisiting them again wouldn’t feel right.
*No Time To Die is available to watch on Prime Video now.
PlayStation to bring in streaming
NETFLIX-STYLING gaming may be coming to the PlayStation 5 next year. News has leaked that Sony plans to merge PlayStation Plus and PS Now subscriptions into one service. e move could be an attempt to become more competitive with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
In an apparent attempt to compete with Xbox Game Pass, Sony plans to launch a similar subscription service next year. According to PlayStation insiders speaking with Bloomberg, the service, codenamed ‘Sparticus’, will bundle PlayStation Plus with PS Now.
Currently, the two services o er di erent features. PlayStation Plus is around €60 per year (or €9 per month) and gives subscribers discounts, and a collection of free games with at least two new titles added every month. It also allows online multiplayer gaming. game streaming as its only option and at the time playing from the cloud, even with a very high-speed connection, was hardly worth the subscription price.
Since then, Sony has vastly improved the streaming quality and recently added an option to download and play games natively.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars in this 2021 biopic about English artist, inventor, entrepreneur and caretaker Louis Wain. Set at the end of the 19th century, it follows a man who, after taking in a stray kitten, creates surreal cat paintings that made him wold famous. ey also seem to re ect his own declining sanity. A feel-good drama with a typically gripping central performance from Cumberbatch, this warm portrait is lled with whimsy, even if it’s a little uneven.
A sublime anthology that doesn’t drop the ball across its ve lms. Small Axe (2020) is a collection of distinct stories about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London from the ‘60s to the ‘80s. ey’re all directed by Steve McQueen, who’s working at his exquisite best (when doesn’t he?), crafting stories such as courtroom drama Mangrove, based on the 1971 trial of the Mangrove Nine and starring Black Panther’s Letitia Wright. Take a seat and devour this massive achievement.
Sound Of Metal scored a bunch of Oscar nominations, back in 2019, including best picture and best actor for the outstanding Riz Ahmed. (It won in two categories: best sound and best lm editing.) He plays Ruben, a punk- metal drummer who unfortunately starts to lose his hearing. As well as struggling with a drug addiction, Ruben is forced to settle into his new life in the deaf community and to learn American Sign Language. e lm’s stunning sound design immerses you in Ruben’s suspenseful story and the experiences of those around him.
If you’re into the dark-things-happen-at-boarding-schools genre, then Selah And e Spades (2019) might be the subject to sign up for. A senior leads a faction called the Spades who sell drugs to other students. But Selah’s about to graduate, so must nd the right candidate to carry on her legacy. Shot beautifully and guided by debut director Tayarisha Poe’s unique lens, this is a taste of even greater things to come.
Shia LaBeouf wrote the screenplay for this 2019 autobiographical movie about a child actor and his relationship with his father. We follow Otis, who’s traumatised after days on set accompanied by his father, a former rodeo clown. LaBeouf actually plays the character inspired by his father, giving Honey Boy even more psychological layers. is is fascinating, cinematic therapy from a singular perspective.

SENIOR FOOTBALL Clara made the long trip south to Mooncoin on Tuesday of last week to play the home team in the quarter final of the 2021 Senior football championship. They came away with a 1-8 to 1-2 victory over a team that was still su ering the a er e ects of their Junior hurling county final celebrations. The first quarter was a scoreless one and Mooncoin remained without a score up to hal ime. Liam Ryan opened Clara’s account and further points by Alan Coleman and Joe Connolly from a free had Clara 0-3 to 0-0 up at the interval. When Tom Ryan, Kevin Nolan (2) and Joe Connolly from another free tacked on four more unanswered points in the third quarter, this game looked over. Moreover Kevin’s second point was from a penalty, which was deflected over by the Mooncoin goalkeeper. Then suddenly Mooncoin awoke from their slumber and scored a quick 1-2 to leave just two points between the teams. Clara, having owned the ball for most of the contest, were suddenly under pressure but their response was impressive and a point by Tom Ryan followed by a Peter Nolan goal closed out the scoring. Clara’s reward was a home semi final clash with five in a row seeking champions Mullinavat. Team - Brian Prendergast, Dara Glynn, David Langton, Paul Murphy. James Casey, Conor O Shea, Liam Ryan 0-1. Ciarán Prendergast, Alan Coleman 0-1. Joe Connolly 0-2f, Kevin Nolan 0-2, Jack Langton. Brandon Ryan, Tom Ryan 0-2, Sean O Shea. Subs used Bill Cody, Peter Nolan 1-0, Lester Ryan. MULLINAVAT MARCH ON Then on Sunday morning, Mullinavat made the trip northwards to face Clara in the semi final. Clara opened brightly and led by two points to no score a er eight minutes, courtesy of a Kevin Nolan free and a Liam Ryan e ort. Then a second yellow card dished out to midfielder Ciarán Prendergast le Clara at a numerical disadvantage and it was always going to be a big ask from there. Mullinavat slowly took over and a penalty goal just before hal ime le them 1-5 to 0-2 ahead. The second half was all Mullinavat and Clara only added two further points, one in each quarter from Tom Ryan and an Alan Coleman free. The five in a row chasing Southerners scored regularly and ran out easy 2-14 to 0-4 winners. Clara tried hard but were no match for a well drilled outfit. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable campaign for the Clara lads and credit to the management of David and Pat Mulrooney for their e orts. Team - Brian Prendergast, Dara Glynn, David Langton, Paul Murphy. Liam Ryan, Conor O Shea, James Casey. Ciarán Prendergast, Alan Coleman. Lester Ryan, Kevin Nolan, Jack Langton. Joe Connolly, Tom Ryan, Peter Molloy. Subs used Bill Cody, Brandon Ryan.

U13s WIN The Clara U13 footballers had a very good win over Glenmore at home on Sunday morning. This puts them through to the semi final of the championship. 3-6 to 2-6 was how it finished. Well done boys! Team - Matthew Cooke, Ollie Butler, Lucas Healy, Liam Treacy. Sam Corr, Peter Firbank, Sam Lawlor. Padraic Meany 1-2, Dara Leamy 1-1. Ruairí Bowden Mullin, Aidan O Connell, Michael Meany. Ciarán Gibbons 1-3, Orí Phelan, Darragh Kenny. Sub Jim Carrigan. CAMOGIE Well done to the three Clara girls who were nominated for the Kilkenny Senior club team of the year recently. Sisters Rebecca and Aisling Nolan were nominated as defenders while Mary O Connell was nominated in the forward line. Voting for that team is open to the public on the Camogie website. U22s BOW OUT St. Brigids Ballycallan had a richly deserved 1-13 to 2-6 win at home to Clara on Sunday in the quarter final of the championship. This competition was increased to U22 this year because last years championship didn’t take place due to covid. Brigids hit the ground running and a er Peig Carrigan had equalised their opening score they kicked on and led 1-3 to 0-1 at the water break. The second quarter was more of the same with a Keara Ryan free all that Clara had to show for their e orts. The interval arrived with the Ballycallan girls 1-7 to 0-2 ahead. Several of the Clara girls had been sick in bed all week and the lack of energy was evident in their play. They had also had a number of first half wides which didn’t help their cause. Now facing the strong breeze, it would have been very easy for these Clara lassies to hang their heads and give up, but this group have never done that and true to form, they carried the fight to St. Brigids for the second half. A goal each from Emma Shortall and Katie Ryan helped cut the deficit to a very respectable four points before the end. However when the final whistle sounded it had to be said that Brigids were the better team here and the curtain came down on a long season for a lot of these Clara girls. Well done to them for their never say die attitude and well done also to the management of Mícheál Nolan and John Murphy, who was absent here through illness. Team - Lucy Cody, Anna Walpole, Rachel Whelan 0-1f, Grace Barcoe. Gráinne Glynn, Laoise Nolan, Katie Ryan 1-1, 0-1f. Keara Ryan 0-3, 0-2f, Rebecca Nolan. Emma Shortall 1-0, Niamh Ward, Maria Shortall. Peig Carrigan 0-1, Margaret O Connell, Aoife Treacy. Sub Niamh Brickell.
