Meanwhile, the aftercare tips will help in minimizing the recovery time after the surgery.

In this article, Dr. Kanagasabapathy from Lakshme Dental Hospital Tirunelveli has listed the wisdom teeth extraction post-operative instructions.

What you should do following teeth removal on the surgery day?  Don't touch the sutures in the surgical area.  Avoid exercises or other physical strain activities. Resume such actions only when you feel comfortable  Don't take tobacco and alcohol substances  Don't rinse your mouth vigorously  Don't use a straw to drink fluids.  Prefer home remedies like saltwater rinse, ice massage and others when you sense discomfort.

Wisdom teeth removal post-care tips to get relief 1) Pain You will notice pain or other discomforts for 24 to 48 hours after the surgery. Dentists recommend painkillers and medications to subdue those follow-ups. The common medicines prescribed to overcome pain include Tylenol and ibuprofen.

On the other hand, such medicaments end up developing a rash, make you feel giddy at times. We advise that consult your dentist once you notice such discomforts. 2) Bleeding Slight bleeding or oozing are not menacing and you need not worry until it becomes frequent or excessive. When you encounter excessive bleeding, try any one of these remedies:  Place a gauze pad over the wounded region and bit it firmly for 30 minutes.  Bite a moistened tea bag for 30 minutes. The tannic acid present in teabag forms blood clots by contradicting blood vessels. Keep in mind that when you involve in strenuous physical activities immediately after wisdom teeth extraction, then it damages the blood clots formed and lead to bleeding inevitably. 3) Nausea Nausea and Vomiting occur as a result of the sedation and narcotic oral pain medications injected during the surgery. When you feel nausea or vomiting after the surgery, don't consume anything including the prescribed medicines for 1 hour. Then take a cup of tea by sipping it slowly. It helps in reducing nausea and then you can consume foods, drinks. If not, consult your dentist. 4) Diet In general, you should be aware of what you are eating after dental surgery. Dental doctors recommend this because chewy, solid or crunchy food items tend to dislodge the sutures. Meanwhile, you should not take extremely hot food and drinks. Here are the things you should consider in planning your diet:  Drink plenty of liquids  Take soft foods like curd rice, khichdi, Porridge, Oatmeal, boiled eggs  Consume foods that are enriched with calories and proteins This soft diet should be maintained for 1t least 4 to 5 days after the surgery whilst you should chew away from the surgical region. 5) Keep your mouth clean

You should brush and floss your teeth carefully without injuring the treated region. On the other hand, it is important to gargle your mouth with lukewarm saltwater following the meals for a week to evacuate the particles lodged in the extracted region. Bottom line Apart from the problems we have discussed, wisdom teeth extraction is associated with certain discomforts like sore throat, stiffness in the jaw which go on their own. Even though such complications are benign but they should be addressed with appropriate home remedies or in-office treatments if needed.
