In March 2025, PhD students from across the University of Exeter met for the ‘Beyond Farm to Fork’ conference, a one-day event to bring together PhD students studying food-related topics.
At the end of the day, the remaining attendees participated in a creative activity, where they were invited to use collage as a way of visualising their research topics. For two hours, they flipped through magazines, newspapers, and children’s encyclopedias from the 1970s, looking for various pictures, colours, and words to add to their collages. The activity offered attendees a relaxed space in which to chat about their research, as well as the joys and challenges of undertaking doctoral research.
This digital booklet collects together the collages that were created, to inspire other (food) researchers to use creative methods to reflect on their research and connect with others.
