Students launch CVU newspaper BY JASON STARR Observer staff
Hey, let’s start a school newspaper! Those maybe aren’t words you’d expect to hear from high-schoolers in the mid-2020s, but that’s exactly what the three founders of The Hawks’ Nest have done this school year at CVU. Not since 2008 has the high school had a see NEWSPAPER page 5
BY JASON STARR Observer staff Holes No. 5 and 6 at the Catamount Country Club are morphing into the primary road through the planned “Summerfield” housing development off Mountain View Road. Ethan Allen Homes LLC purchased the majority of the golf course, 31 acres, in April, and about two weeks ago started moving dirt for the first phase of construction. Plans approved by the Development Review Board in 2022 show a neighborhood of 138 homes with four new roads. The primary road that excavators began clearing in April — Kourebanas Drive — will create a new north-south connection between Route 2 and Mountain View Road. continue operating a scaled-down version of what was a nine-hole course, as well as a driving range and banquet/event center business out of the clubhouse. “I’m saddened by the loss of the open space and customers of the nine-hole course that we’ve had for years, and I’m excited by new opportunities,” Kourebanas said. “It’s a transition period for Catamount, but we’re moving forward, and we have plans for the
future.” With three remaining holes, Catamount now offers golfers one-sixth of a round of golf. As such, it has reduced its rates and can advertise a unique, lower-time-commitment experience. “There are a lot of things we can do, but we have to get creative,” the club’s golf pro, Bill Boldwin, said. “We’re still figuring it out.”
It’s not easy getting green The weather may have been gray but Saturday’s theme was definitely green as Williston residents pitched in for Vermont’s annual Green Up Day. Left to right, Laura Pratt braved the traffic along Route 2A; two teams of scouts from Boy Scout Troop #692 were out on Route 2 and Mountain View Road; bags and other trash began to pile up all around town; and Madeleine and Tyler Dawson, dressed for the weather, tackled Old Creamery Road on Saturday morning.
