Anxiety’s a war My thoughts are starting to swarm. I’ve tried to keep going but I can’t take it anymore. The world’s crashing down, the walls are caving in and half the time I don’t know what I’m doing. I take a deep breath, put on a fake smile. But no one can see what lies beneath. Under my smile, and my pearly white teeth, faking a laugh is no easy task. Like losing control, you’re about to crash. A knot in your stomach, a frog in your throat. Something that st r i kes without warning. And when you ask it to leave, it won’t. The world seemed so much more beautiful before I open my eyes, now, half the time I’m about to cry. But don’t worry I’m fine. Jasmine Cousino Grade 8

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” They always say to me. At first I said an athlete, so powerful and brave. Now I think I’d like to dance, upon a shiny stage. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” They ask like I should know, for although I am growing, I still see POETRY page 4
