Vermont Almanac is a handbook for rural living in the 21st century. It’s also a record of the year, beginning each October and ending each September. We start the year on October 1st - when the natural world is at its peak in the Vermont - and then detail the following seven months of decline and five months of renewal. Our mission is to help foster a land ethic that reflects our time and the unique attributes of rural Vermont.
Our areas of focus include working lands (agriculture and forests); weather and our changing climate; rural living and communities; phenology; wildlife; rural writers, artists, and craftspeople; history; innovative new practices that promote ecological sustainability; and all other manner of stories that promote a genuine connection to the land.
Volume IV covers the time period from October 2023 - September 2024.
