Floors

OUR FOCUS

At Vermont Plank Flooring, our goal is to offer customers the best wide plank flooring in the world. We achieve that through unparalleled standards, individualized service, and unbeatable value.

The quality of our product begins in the forest. Our flooring comes from the healthiest, fully mature trees, sustainably grown and selectively harvested by small, private New England woodlot owners with whom we’ve worked for decades. With that high quality lumber as our starting point, we are able to mill the widest and longest planks in the industry, with dimensions often two-to-three times what you’ll find elsewhere.

Our commitment to quality continues through the milling process, where each plank we produce is carefully assessed and graded to meet our exacting standards.

As each plank is handcrafted specifically for your project, we produce it exactly to your requirements. You choose the species, solid hardwood or engineered plank structure, the plank lengths and widths, the grade, the saw technique, and the finishing product and tinting. We’ll be by your side providing as much or as little support as you need.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised to find our superior service, selection, and quality don’t translate into sticker shock. Our small, family-run business is lean and nimble, operating with low overhead and mill-direct wholesale pricing so we can provide you with gorgeous custom wood flooring at a surprisingly affordable price. That’s our mission, and we do it well.

OUR STORY

THREE GENERATIONS

Like most American business stories, Vermont Plank Flooring was born of a degree of foresight, a little bit of luck, and a lot of hard work. Our involvement in the wood business started in 1946 when Jack Tarmy started driving a lumber truck making deliveries in the Boston area. By 1958, he had his own company, selling the finest New England timber to customers around the world.

Jack’s son Mark joined the company in 1976, helping it grow roots in a community and supply chain that persists to this day. In 1989, Mark shifted the company’s focus from wholesale timber to custom-milled, wide-plank flooring. His family’s existing relationships with local woodsmen proved to be an invaluable, and unbeatable, asset. Vermont Plank Flooring isn’t just lumber: it’s the product of a local supply chain built on decades of trust.

Thirty years later, Mark’s son George is helping to guide the business into the future without losing sight of Jack’s guiding principle: the best product for the best price.

From Ash’s bright, sunny character and swirling patterns to the elegant, lustrous warmth of cherry, to maple’s harmonious amber radiance;

from the striking grain characteristics and creamy red hues of red oak, to the luminous coffee-bean brown and purplish overtones of walnut, to the welcoming knotty warmth of classic, patina-ready eastern white pine.

Ask us to send you some samples to get a first-hand look at birch’s creamy golden sapwood and reddish-brown heartwood, or at the dynamic grain patterns and light-brown hues of white oak. The infinite variety and dynamic splendor of wood can provide luxury, warmth and elegance to any décor, design motif, or architectural style.

ALL THE WAYS YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE

Vermont Plank Flooring controls every step of the process for our custom flooringfrom selecting the timber to the grading and milling. This is how we're able to create striking floors with such wide widths and long lengths, and also how we're able to tailor just about every element of the flooring to be perfect for your project.

WOOD TYPES

Some species possess striking grain designs, mineral streaks, and stark color variations, while others provide more even color consistency and straighter, less pronounced grain patterns.

GRADE

All Vermont Plank floors are crafted from the same high-quality timber. Our Character Grade includes more sound knots and color variation, while our Select Grade is more consistent, with fewer knots.

STRUCTURE

Choose between Solid Timber, or an Engineered Solid Timber Lamella overlaid on an 11-layer cabinet-grade birch substrate.

STYLE OF CUT

Plain Sawn timber produces a classic cathedral grain pattern, while the grain in Rift & Quarter Sawn runs vertically along the length of each plank.

WIDTHS

From 4" widths up to 19" widths, depending on your selected species.

STAIN / FINISH

Choose from an unlimited assortment of colors and finishes.

SUSTAINABLE, EARTHFRIENDLY FLOORING.

FSC - CERTIFIED, 100% SOLAR POWERED MILL

Vermont Plank Flooring is committed to sustaining our valuable forests and maintaining the earth’s precious ecosystem for generations to come. We are fully certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) for both newly sawn and reclaimed wood floors and millwork.

Vermont Plank’s newly sawn floors come exclusively from sustainablymanaged forests in the Northeast. Our reclaimed floors come from 100to-200-year-old structures destined for demolition - generally mills, farmhouses, and barns.

We wear the FSC badge with pride. From a business perspective, it makes unquestionable sense.

Harvesting sustainably managed, mature trees provides us with the highest quality raw material from which to mill our flooring, a critical starting point for a spectacular finished product. It also maintains the health of the forest, guaranteeing high quality raw materials for decades and generations to come.

From an ethical perspective, we believe it is our duty to champion our planet’s health by minimizing our impact however we can, and by working exclusively with forest owners and material suppliers who can be trusted to do the same. It’s simply the right thing to do—for our business, for the quality of our products, for the earth, and for our children and grandchildren.
