GREAT FUTURES START HERE AT BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF VERMILLION At Boys & Girls Club of Vermillion, every child who walks through our doors begins a journey towards confidence, connection, and growth. Parents can enroll their children any time throughout the year. The Club offers No School Days and most Snow Days programming, giving kids a safe, fun, and engaging place to learn, play, and grow, no matter the season. At Boys & Girls club of Vermillion, kids discover who they are and what they can achieve with the help of caring mentors who believe every child deserves a great future. Each day, youth explore new interests through the Art Studio, Culinary Creations, Health & Well-being, Power Hour, STEM, and Tutor Club, programs that blend learning with fun.
Our Academy Program (JK–2nd grade) builds strong early foundations in literacy and social-emotional skills, while our Traditional Program (3rd–12th grade) empowers members to lead, create, and give back. Through our Diversion Program, we partner with community organizations to help youth make positive choices and stay on track toward success. More than 300 kids and youth have found belonging, mentorship, and purpose at the Vermillion Club this year. They find purpose and belonging through teen lead programs such as Life & Workforce Readiness and Teen Court. Behind every milestone are the supportive relationships that define our mission: “To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.”

The Mayor As mayor of Vermillion, I am honored to welcome you to our city! Vermillion is a small community on the rise, renowned for its friendly people, historical significance, beautiful location and area attractions. Whether you’re spending time with friends and family, attending a conference or an event, moving here or just passing through, we’re sure you’ll find Vermillion a unique and exciting town. Vermillion abounds with parades, festivals, sporting events and historic celebrations. From the Shakespeare Festival to the Clay County Fair and Ribs, Rods, and Rock 'N Roll, to our very own Thursdays on the Platz summer music series, there is never a shortage of things to do. If you like history, visit the National Music Museum, the W.H. Over State Museum and the Austin-Whittemore House. Enjoy local art at the Oscar Howe Gallery, the First Dakota National Bank Coyote Gallery, or the University Galleries, or take a stroll through our historic downtown to view our murals and sculpture walk. The beating heart of Vermillion is our historic downtown, which recently received a new facelift with widened sidewalks and added greenery. GETTING HERE Hit the Road Vermillion is conveniently located six miles (eight minutes) from the Highway 50 Interstate 29 junction. Sioux Falls is 63 miles (one hour) north of Vermillion. Sioux City is 39.2 miles (41 minutes) southeast of Vermillion.
Regional Air Access Vermillion does not have its own commercial airport; however, convenient options are available in nearby cities. Located in Sioux Falls, the Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD) is the largest airport within an hour's drive of Vermillion. It offers over 165 weekly flights with 13 direct flight destinations. The Sioux Gateway Airport (SUX), located in Sioux City, Iowa, offers seasonal flights and two daily United Express nonstop flights.
Transit & Other Ways Ways to Get Here The Southeast Public Transit system is a great option. Southeast Public Transit is a non-profit, public transit agency that offers transportation services to the citizens of Clay and Yankton counties. Give them a call at (605) 624-7433 to schedule a ride while you are visiting us. There is also a Greyhound bus stop at 702 North Dakota Street where travelers can catch a ride to Rapid City, Omaha, The Twin Cities, Sioux Falls, Sioux City and more. Vermillion’s city government consists of a mayor and eight council members representing four wards throughout the community. CLAY COUNTY Clay County encompasses 412 square miles, 12 townships, three towns (Vermillion, Wakonda, and Irene), and two unincorporated communities (Meckling and Burbank). Vermillion is the county seat, with a courthouse located at 211 W. Main Street. Clay County has five County Commissioners elected at large by residents of the county. Clay County and the City of Vermillion are in state Legislative District 17, which is comprised of Clay and Union Counties, and is represented by three legislators: Senator Sydney Davis and Representatives Chris Kassin and William Shorma.
