Dining
Vermillion’s eateries offer a plethora of tasty meals, delicious treats, specialty coffees, cocktails, and beers and wines that are sure to delight the palette.
Start your day off right with a coffee from The Bean Community Coffeehouse. For elaborate lattés and pastries, check out Café Brulé, which is also a great place for lunch and dinner.

If pizza is what you’re after, El Fredo’s is known for their incredible pies. Dakota Brick House also has a fantastic hand-tossed pizza option, though we would be remiss if we didn’t also mention their eclectic food menu. Speaking of eclectic menus, Cee Cee’s 605 Scratch Kitchen & Bar is the place to go for creative entrées, appetizers, and cocktails. For wine tastings and lunch specials, look no further than Valiant Vineyards—South Dakota’s oldest winery!
If you love sports, cold beer, and wings, Old Lumber Company, Leo’s Sports Bar & Grill,
and Bunyan’s have everything you need, and for a quick burger or pizza, Charcoal Lounge is the place to go. For authentic Asian cuisine, head to Silk Road Café for dumplings, curries, noodles, and traditional Korean and Japanese dishes. In the mood for Mexican food? Try Fayuca or Mamacita’s.
While it might be a little off the beaten path, Whimp’s Steakhouse in Burbank is worth driving out to. If you’re out the other direction, stop by Toby’s Lounge in Meckling for their famous chicken. Want to stay in town? Hartford Steak Co. Tavern has a great steak menu. Stop in on a weekday for the best steak deal around: a 6 oz. filet mignon and sides for only $13.95!
After dinner, experience Vermillion’s nightlife with staples like Carey’s Bar and The Varsity Pub. Be sure to check out Vermillion’s new brewery, XIX Brewing Company, for beers like the Big Coat Milk Stout and the local favorite Windswept IPA.

Vermillion is a thriving arts community, and some of the most celebrated pieces in Vermillion’s oeuvre are the murals adorning our historic downtown. These murals represent the spirit of our town, from Vermillion Vortex—inspired by Vermillion sights and pastimes—to the Wanáhča and Eúŋkičhetupi wrap murals—showcasing identity, femininity, and motherhood—to the new It Gets Better mural adorning the west side of Café Brulé.

SCULPTURE WALK

This rotation allows for an ever-shifting lineup of works, keeping the community art space fresh and vibrant. Our SculptureWalk is located along the streets of historic downtown, outside of the Sanford Vermillion Medical Center, and on the University of South Dakota campus. New sculptures were installed May of 2024, and feature works from artists from across the country. See the full list of sculptures at vermculture.org/sculpture-walk.
