Lakeland College Rodeo Club Hosts Fall Classic Rodeo

The rodeo has been a large part of college life at Lakeland College for over 40 years. This past weekend the Lakeland College Rodeo Club hosted its annual Fall Classic Rodeo filled with fast-paced rodeo action in Bareback/ Saddlebronc, Pole Bending, Tie Down Roping, Breakaway Roping, Saddlebronc, Goat Tying, Bull Riding, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing, and Team Roping for all to see. On Saturday the event started with the Slack, moving into the timed rodeo performances at 6:30 p.m. completed by
competitors from Alberta and Saskatchewan. In the Pole Bending Jade Nelson came in first with a time of 22.502, with Kamryn Gilliland of Lakeland College second with a time of 22.506 and Kacee Ward third completing the pole bending in 22.611. Rachel Moat took the fastest time in Barrel Racing with a time of 14.525, with Madalyn Fraser from Lakeland College taking second with a time of 14.543 and Quincy Squair also from Lakeland College taking third with a time of 14.571. In the Goat Tying on Saturday, Emily Pugsley tied the fastest with a time of
8.78, Alex Mcdonald second with a time of 9.63, and Jade Nelson third with a time of 10.56. S o m e r e s u l t s f r o m S a t u r d a y ’s events have unofficial times and will be published later. Sunday wasn’t a day of disappointment as the crowds were entertained with the same events hosted on Saturday. The announcer for the event was Neil Branden, judges were Kyle Rock and Scott Griffin, pick-up men – Dustin Gintaut and Darcy McKinney, bullfighters Josh Haeberle and Cole Grinde, TimersBecky Demmans and Marilee Taylor and stock contractors were C5 Rodeo, Foley Bucking Bulls and Thompson Rodeo. The rodeo followed the Restrictions Exemption Program where attendees were required to provide proof of vaccination, or a negative COVID-19 test completed within 72 hours of the event, and masking when inside the equine centre.
