Vermilion 4-H Beef Club Achievement Day

Under beautiful sunny skies and warm weather, the Vermilion 4-H Beef Club held their annual Achievement Day on May 29, at the Vermilion Fair Grounds. After months of working tirelessly to get their project animals ready to show, the 4H members had the opportunity to show off their animals. Members aged 9-18, and cleaver kids sported their well-rounded steers, heifers, and 2 and 3-year-old cow/calf pairs. Judge Owen
Legaarden viewed the well-groomed animals which showed the skills the members have learned in halter breaking, grooming and clipping techniques. He also had the opportunity to view the member’s animals to see how their decisions in choosing the right animal and their skills in caring for and feeding their project animal had produced well-defined animals. The show started at 9 a.m. but the members were on-site early to give their project animal a well-deserved spa day so that their animal looked its
absolute best. The 4-H members were broken down into junior, intermediate, and senior classes with the winner of each class moving on to be the overall champion. The club offered a lunch and award presentations. Haylee Cusack was awarded the Club Champion Steer - sponsored by Misty Hills Charolais, and Sophie Hinton was awarded the Reser ve Club Champion Steer - sponsored by Vermilion Vet Clinic.
