Approximately 60 people attended the 1st ever Rural Women event held at the Vermilion Agricultural Society’s Reunion Hall on January 16. Participants had the opportunity to hear from several industry specialists, as well as network, and see exhibitors. Two of the ladies were treated to a make-overs with make-up by Candice Willets, hair by Untangles Hair Salon, clothing by Elevation, and skin by Westlake Cosmetic Laser. Sponsor and participant, Tannis Henderson who has outfitted the two makeovers said, “It was wonderful; both were absolutely lovely ladies. It happened at a really good time, giving these women a fresh start in the new year. People are always really excited anytime they win a makeover, and it was great having a women’s networking event in our community.” Participant, Bailey Cameron said, “I feel so blessed, I’ve had a makeover before and it was awesome!” Participant April Ockerman added, “It was a great surprise. Everything was very positive; I felt so pampered. The makeover was set up so well for 2019; there will definitely be good things to come!”

Jessica Emmot t presented ‘The Pastures take on Grazing & How to Plan for Better Management,’ and the Co-operator’s Vanessa Desrosiers presented ‘Stop Living like you left the gate open...Insure your hard work!’ The Viking Veterinary Clinic’s Lacey Tillotson presented ‘Calving 101,’ and Melissa Downing presented ‘Verified Beef Production and Incentive Program.’ “We’re not just producers, we are also consumers. Most producers are at or near the requirements for the Verified Beef Production program already; it is meant to be practical and issues quality assurance for consumers. We are industry-run, and I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t believe in it. It’s a way for us as an industry to take charge. Let’s not give consumers a reason to go elsewhere!” said Downing. Thynk Simple Trending Solutions’ Thea Warriner presented ‘Saddle up with Social Media,’ and Lawyer/Notary Public Caeleigh Shier presented ‘Estate Planning for Farmers & Transition Planning: Where Do We Begin? Lisa Friedt presented ‘Faced with Challenges,’ and Loree Photography’s Lori Loree presented ‘How to work a Crowd at an Event with Industry Leaders.’ Participants enjoyed a taco bar lunch

and were very impressed by the conference. With the wide range of subjects, women had all kinds of takeaway information and enjoyed visiting during the networking hour that followed, provided by Simple Farmer.

“I’m really impressed with the turnout, and we’re already planning for next year! It was a great opportunity for women to discuss networking, industry needs, fitness, and mental health,” said coordinator, Kaylie Franklin.
