Celebrating Ukrainian New Year’s, Malanka was held at the Vermilion Regional Centre on January 13. A lavish Ukrainian meal, a selection of festive Ukrainian dances, and a live and silent auction were held at the event. “We were so excited to see everyone perform,” said instructor, Elizabeth Zee. According to Jason Stelmaschuk, Ukrainian Cultural Association presi-
dent, the Samotsvit dancers shared s o m e n e w i d e a s t h i s y e a r. Fr o m toddlers to adults, full energy and colour ful costumes filled the stage; even a sword dance was performed. “We are extremely grateful for the community support from families and busines ses in the area; it is what keeps Malanka growing stronger each year,” said Stelmaschuk.
