The Western Institute of Emergency Education held their grand opening on December 6. President Shane Croke, a paramedic for close to 20 years, became interested in teaching after taking instructor courses and expanding his education at STARS Academy. He spent time working in an intensive care unit and a critical care unit in North Battleford, expanding his scope and experience while building a passion for teaching and helping people. After working full - time as a paramedic and operations super visor in Vermilion, Croke decided to take a casual position on the ambulance to pursue his dream; opening The Western Institute of Emergency Education to teach and provide the community and area with a multitude of first aid, medical simulation, and continuing education courses.
The Western Institute of Emergency Education of fers courses, both on site and online, for youth, the general public and anyone in a safety or medical profession. The online courses allow customers to work at their own pace, on their own time and get a certificate all at their convenience. All of the courses found online are also available on site plus a few additional options including a confined space room and a medical trauma room with a fully interactive mannequin with the ability to setup many medical emergency scenarios. Croke has already begun working within the community, training the local EMS and nurses and doctors. He has started to work with the local fire department and fire school. “We are excited to bring this training to the community; it is not something that has ever been here before. We wanted to create this opportunity for the community and help grow Vermilion,” said Croke.
