A Cut For A Cause
To support cancer, Justin Carriere shaved his hair and beard on December 1. Kaneesha Pelletier first bound Carriere’s hair into a series of pony tails and then started cutting it. Cornerstone Co-op food store manager Mike Gaudet got in on the action as well. Photos Shawna Chernichen

On December 1, Cornerstone Co-op Vermilion Food Store Produce Manager, Justin Carriere, shaved his hair and beard to support cancer. After three years of growing his hair Carriere had it shaved off and donated to Wigs for Kids; a nonprofit organization specializing in supplying wigs to children with cancer. The Wigs For Kids program aims to boost self confidence and enables children to maintain a positive attitude while
fighting their illness. Carriere also raised $1,340 to be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. From 2016 - 2017, the Canadian Cancer Society funded $40 million in leadingedge research, as well as provided prevention and screening services and support to families. Transportation, accommodation, hospice, and coping are all a part of the society’s work. After losing many family members and friends to cancer, supporting cancer research is a very personal endeavor for
Carriere. This is the second time Carriere has cut and donated his hair to support cancer, and plans to continue to do so in the future. Fellow staff gathered in support and cheered him on as he said goodbye to his long locks. According to www.cancer.ca it is estimated that in 2017; 206,300 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer and 80,800 will die from cancer. On average, 565 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer every day, and 221 Canadians Kaneesha Pelletier finished off by shaving will die from cancer every day. Carriere’s beard for an additional $50 pledge.
