Katelyn Sieben (6) thoroughly enjoyed visiting Vermilion’s Spray Park on July 8. She had travelled to Vermilion with her family all the way from Edmonton. With rain almost every day recently, kid’s were eager to get out in the summer sun and splash around using whatever tools they could find to have water fights. As the afternoon proceeded, children build up their courage running through the jet streams of water. Photo Angela Mouly

On July 8, under sunny skies and warm temperatures, the success of the spray park could be seen as children of all ages were frolicking under the sprays of water while parents visited and watched their children enjoy the variety of water features.
The spray park became a reality in May 2014 due to the tireless efforts of corporate and community sponsors who raised more than $110,000. While the Alberta Government provided $150,000 and the Town of Vermilion, who covered the remaining funds towards the $400,000 project to turn the old out of commission wade pool into a first-class recreation opportunity.
The facility is free for Vermilion residents and visitors to utilize, providing parents the opportunity to hold outside birthday parties for their children encouraging physical activit y as well as the opportunity to splash their way to coolness on hot summer days in a safe and relaxing atmosphere partially due to the non-slip surface in the spray park.
