Pollinator Garden

The Environment Committee began the building of a pollinator garden aimed to give butterfly, bee and dragonfly species a place to thrive in the Vermilion community. On Saturday and Sunday April 18 and 19, between 15 - 20 volunteers made up of committee and council members, contractors and other local individuals helped out in the building of raised garden beds in the garden. Many different species of plants native to Alberta were chosen for planting. Sponsorship included $3,500 from Walmart Evergreen, $5,000 from TD Bank Friends of the environment and supplies from Rona in Vermilion.

“In the future we plan to work on projects like the ‘The Bug Hotel’ and involve the local 4-H clubs and the Girl Guides,” said garden volunteer and Councillor Rob Pulyk on Saturday.

It’s Hammer Time at the First United Church Shannon O’ Connor Reporter

The First United Church held its Spring Supper and Silent Auction at the Elk’s Hall on Sunday as a fundraiser for renovations at the church that will include replacing windows, upgrading floors and roof repairs.

A separate project included in the fundraiser is the construction of new cabins at the Church’s Camp Whitney (for children ages 6-15) which is located 25 km east of Elk Point.

The existing eight cabins were built in the 1960’s and are not insulated, prone to moisture and pests and not presently wheelchair accessible. The estimated cost for replacing the cabins and upgrading the site is $300,000. The upgrades will also be able to facilitate the increased demand for meeting space and lodgings in the area.

Apart from the cost of admission for

supper tickets, there were also two raffle baskets up for grabs. A silent auction with interesting bid items like a horse drawn sleigh ride and wiener roast for up to ten people was offered by Edward and Jade McCormack and helped to boost the fundraising efforts. The array of home baked goodies - cupcakes, pies, breads, and thickly frosted cakes were extremely popular among the bidding crowd.

Doormen Ralph Feenstra and his grandson Cody Jackson were kept busy as the hall was filled to near capacity. Feenstra said he was happy with the turn out and continued to sell tickets even as supper got underway.

Business As Usual At School Of Hope Shannon O’ Connor Reporter

With the unveiling of the provincial budget at the end of March, questions abound about what impact it will have on schools and school boards throughout the province of Alberta. At the open house of the School of Hope in Vermilion on Thursday, Vice Principal Shawn Fleck said enrolment at the school will not be affected for the 2015-16 school year.

“Every school is facing challenges,” he said. “But the funding for families will stay the same, and we will reassess at the end of the year.” Fleck added that the school is “not limiting enrolment,” either.

This is great news for parents like Melanie Witwicki who is interested in having her

son enroll at the school this fall.

“He is having a difficult time in school and we are hoping this will help him along,” she said.

Rachel Page, the elementary teacher at the School of Hope said the “one on one” attention each student receives, meets the student where they are.

Denise Kissel teaches Grade 9-12 and is one of the founding teachers at the School of Hope and said students enroll at the school for various reasons.

“Some are bored in the classroom because they are gifted and are at a higher level than other students. There is great flexibility in our program not only in terms of timeline but also in content.”

The School of Hope and Vermilion Homeschool Program delivers families

educational needs in three different ways: parent directed (or traditional homeschooling), blended, or teacher directed. Different levels of provincial funding are available for each program.

Kissel added she became interested in the school’s unique style when she was called for an interview by Marcia Shillington, another founding teacher. When she told Shillington she couldn’t attend because she had a six month old baby at home, Shillington told her to bring the baby along.

“If I’m allowed to bring a baby to a job interview, this is definitely worth checking out,” recounted Kissel.

Critics of homeschooling usually cite the loss of social skills among peers as a result of home based learning.

“We have plenty of face to face groups,”

said Kissel. “And field trips.”

On a recent trip to Central Eastern Europe the students visited Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Auschwitz and Krakow.

“The students were in “no man’s land” at Checkpoint Charlie where the Berlin wall stood for 28 years before it was torn down in 1989. When the students learned that the wall kept families separated from each other for nearly 30 years, one student remarked that her sister was born in 1989.

“It really hit home,” added Kissel.

Over the past 20 years approximately 2,500 students have come through the doors, said Fleck who has been with the school for 13 years - the last four as vice principal. “It’s unique, it’s challenging and it’s exciting. We are happy with the success we have had.”

When the door of the Vermilion Heritage Pavilion went up, a crowd of people surged forward to see what bargains awaited inside as the Vermilion Rotary Club’s eighth annual garage sale got underway promptly at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Brenda Lee, past president of the Rotary club, said “This year is the best turnout so far.”

“It’s a beautiful day to spend some money!” Rotarian member Dean McMullen shouted to anxious bargain hunters.

“And it’s a beautiful day to support a lot of worthwhile projects in Vermillion,” he added.

Ready, Set…SHOP!!! funding is the Raise the Roof fundraiser for the Vermilion Heritage Museum.

McMullen said a $5,000 commitment has already been made to the museum.

The Pavilion was packed with donations and the heavily stocked tables ran from one end of the room to the other. The tables were also categorized and larger items like furniture and appliances were all in one section, which made it easier for shoppers to find what they were looking for. And they did not waste any time zeroing in on what they wanted.

Items were not priced. Instead, a fair offer was all that was requested from buyers. If buyers were unsure of the value, a volunteer would suggest a price and in some cases buyers actually upped the suggested price.

Lee attributes the success of the fundraiser to a combination of factors.

“We are good stewards of the products.

We want that glass to sparkle… people know we care about what is donated.

We also make it easy to donate…we are currently a society of excess…but these things still have a use and they won’t end up in the landfill.”

Donation drop-offs began last week and people were literally driving up with a trailer full of goods said Lee who added that approximately 30 pick ups were also arranged throughout the week to make it easy for seniors who wanted to donate, but who were unable to get the items there themselves. Larger items that were difficult to move were also picked up.

Unsold items were donated to vari-

ous charities including the Community Closet, the 4-H Sheep Club, the Interval Store, Habitat for Humanity, the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Islay Extended Care Auxiliary.

“And this year we are partnering with the Canine Action Project for the first time. They work in the community and hold spaying and vaccination clinics. Any leftover pet items will go to them.”

Citing the enormous number of hours it takes to make this fundraiser a success, Lee said it is an “all hands on deck” effort and a “really good team building exercise for our club. People are happy to do it.”

However, Lee added, none of it would be possible without the support of the community.

“Every year we get better stuff, and more stuff.”

They often take work home with them mentally. They think about the tasks which may not have been completed during the day and tasks which may come up for them the next day or even for the week. I have worked in administrative positions and know from personal experience how stressful the role can be.

This week is Administrative Professional week with the official day being held on April 22. Take the time to tell your support staff how much you appreciate the hard work they do. It does not have to be anything expensive, perhaps a small gesture to show them how you feel. The general rule of thumb is flowers, or a nice lunch or gathering to celebrate them. We have to remember not all administrative staff are women nowadays. More and more men are filling these positions, and for some reason I am thinking flowers may not be the way to go, however, I could be absolutely wrong.

I think most people do not expect a huge party or get together and I think the most important part of the day is to just say thank you. A thank you can speak volumes.

Spring is officially here as of last Thursday, April 9...period!

I had to swat three pesky mosquitoes, ha ha…but it wasn’t the only sign. The signs kind of came together all at once.

It was a decent evening and I was working in the shop with the big overhead door open. I put the Wild T V program on mute as I could see momma Robin singing her heart out in one of our evergreens near the house.

I thoroughly enjoyed her peace ful serenade on a perfectly still calm evening; the sunset seemed to be frozen in time. Momma Robin has been here for some time now, but I can’t get enough of her spring rejoice.

Not minutes later, as I did some filing on the work station computer, without thinking I swatted at the annoying sound in my ear that interrupted the relaxing song of spring. Then to my horror, I realized it was a mosquito which, unfortunately, is the real true sound and sign of spring. I clapped…not my appreciation of the mosquito’s arrival, but to rid the world of just one small annoyance.

Seconds later, there was another, then another. I clapped to make their exit as fast as their grand entrance. I could tell they were male mosquitoes.

The male mosquito is actually a

peace loving little bugger...really. The male mosquito can be distinguished from the female by its business end… the “stinger” - also known as the blood sucking spear out front.

The male has what appears to be a bushy or feathered “stinger” where a female appears smooth and needle like.

The male mosquito, believe it or not, only feeds on flower nectar and sweet juices.

The male does not feed on blood to survive and only survives for the short life-span of approximately a week. The male uses that bushy business end, believe or not again, to hear.

The bushy or feathered “stinger ” of the male picks up the vibrations of the very annoying buzzing the female mosquito makes that we all hate. The male finds the female in this strange manner to flourish in hordes.

It ’s that nasty female that sucks every drop out of us to survive and reproduce. Our blood is used to nourish her eggs for the endless swarms of her kind. Although it’s only the female that’s nasty, we generally just swat out of instinct and vengeance.

It ’s the female that injects nasty diseases all over the world into our human blood source. Here in Canada, the most well - k nown is West Nile disease, which is passed on to us through blood from infected birds that the mosquitoes have also tried to drain.

T h e i t c h t h at a c c o m p a n i e s t h e mosquito’s arrival can be dangerous and debilitating to humans. Make sure to protect yourself and your loved ones from the unfriendly signs of spring.

Back to the calming evening signs of spring...with the mosquitoes out of the way, it was only minutes later that I thought I heard a frog joining in on momma Robin’s serenade.

So, I went outdoors to listen and sure enough, a single frog started to “croak” more than “sing” and a couple of minutes later a second joined in, then another, then other species started their song.

Soon the frog song drowned out ever y thing, even momma Robin stopped to listen to the racket, as noisy as it was it was music to the ears, and

spring was here seemingly all at once.

I also got to stop and admire a hint of colour and beauty in the colour-barren world of spring. My crocus was proudly showing its colours of yellow, purple and white this past weekend, thereby signifying the arrival of spring.

Several weeks ago I offered a crocus challenge, and thanks to all that sent in their pictures. I got to enjoy our crocus before actually seeing one, through your pictures.

I received two pictures from Marjorie Jensen. She and her husband live just outside of rural Myrnam, here in the Midwest. She took a couple outstanding pictures of the crocus near their home.

These pictures really captured the essence of the crocus; the first picture captures the colour, beauty and extreme hardiness of the crocus growing out of the snow and ice. The second picture captures the strength and a burst of beauty and colour in a dismal looking spring world. When I was young the horse culture was still in vogue. It worked well in those depression days because fuel cost money and horses could get by on grass and perhaps a measure or two of oats, if you had some. There were a few iron monsters that helped with the heavy work of breaking the land and running the threshing machine, but the work of putting in the crop and harvesting fell to the horse, so of course the chore of fixing rubber tires was mostly still in the future.

The early little tractors were mostly less than fifty horsepower and the wheels were not all that large yet. They needed to add wheel weights for more traction and then someone developed the idea of adding fluid ballast inside the tires. Of course in this country to be useful in the cold weather it had to be something that wouldn’t freeze. The fluid was mostly a mixture of calcium chloride and water, and it was very corrosive and you would wonder how on earth this whole deal was

finally made popular.

No one had any type of equipment that could pump the fluid into the tires and at the same time allow excess air to escape.

Quite a procedure! The calcium product came in bags and was mixed with water until it was absolutely all it could dissolve.

I guess the idea was it made the water heavier for added ballast. It was so corrosive that it rusted the valves on the tubes and they had to be specially made and any of the fluid that touched the paint would soon leave a rust spot if not immediately rinsed off. It was a messy business to say the least. Lots of times, the fluid would be lost when the flat occurred but the empty tire wasn’t too difficult to load if you had some help. You needed lots more when it was filled and you were trying to get the wheel studs lined up.

God help you if it ever fell down flat. It was hard to lift and could really hurt if it landed on any part of you.

We were lucky in our neighborhood as we generally were quick to respond to any call for help, whatever the occasion demanded. Anyway when the tractors were like, 30 to 50 horsepower, the wheels could be managed with some

difficulty and danger, but you realize there were no or virtually no aids to lifting back then, like hydraulic jacks or front end loaders for instance. You needed a big truck box or so, because that metal pick- up boxes sure took harm from those heavy wheels. You can see now that larger tractor wheels would have been impossible to handle without a handy front end loader!!

I guess the tire shops must have seen the need about then and they began to set up mobile tire fixing trucks that had all the air compressors, air impact wrenches and all the necessary equipment to pump the fluid out and back in, right on the job, out in the field.

The sizes of the wheels on those up to 500 or so horsepower are quite beyond anything that we could have coped with in the early times. Some of those huge tractors have three huge wheels on each corner. I can’t even imagine the chore of handling all those wheels around if an inside one needed to be fixed and you had to handle all those wheels like we had to back then!!

need to be exactly the same pressure to make sure all the whole width is the same depth. Yes and swathers and combines sometimes need to have ballasted rear wheels to compensate for the heavy big width headers!! As equipment gets more and more sophisticated the expense of tires and their maintenance is staggering, I keep thinking it’s little wonder they have to use Super B trucks to keep up with the repair bills. I see now that many of the big tractors have come equipped with rubber tracks instead of wheels on each corner.

No place for fluid in them, but I think they really have to be some kind of fun to play with, what? Yes gone are the days, I’m afraid of the little family farm, with the half sections or section of land and a nice little herd of range cattle, or enough milk cows to ship cream, or a pen or two of feeder pigs to keep ahead of the bills. Sadly those days are forever gone and we have probably seen the last of the small independent farmer. It seems hard to believe that the farms and all the whole industry have so radically evolved from a way of life to a mega-business with budgets rivalling a small country. No place for the faint hearted, you think?

Lakeland College Student Wins Top 4H Award Submitted

A Lakeland College environmental sciences student met with Alberta Premier Jim Prentice the day before Budget 2015 was released.

Jess Verstappen wasn’t providing last minute advice on funding for postsecondar y education, although the 18-year-old did offer a few suggestions on topics related to the environment.

Verstappen was invited to tour the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton on March 25 and meet with Prentice and Everett McDonald, associate minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, because of a prestigious 4-H award she won. Last spring Verstappen was selected from among the province’s top senior 4-H members to receive the 4-H Premier’s Award. It’s the highest honour given to an Alberta 4-H member.

“I had never been to the legislature so it was an eye-opening experience for me,” says Verstappen, who was also introduced in the Speaker’s Gallery.

During the approximately 30 minutes she spent with the premier, the two discussed the 4-H program and a range of topics related to agriculture and the environment. “He was very friendly and approachable and was open to hearing my opinion on a variety of subjects,” says Verstappen who is majoring in conserva-

tion and restoration ecology at Lakeland.

The High Prairie, Alta., resident was a member of the Coyote Acres 4-H Club last year when she became the 49th recipient of the 4-H Premier’s Award. As a student at Lakeland’s Vermilion campus, Verstappen has continued her involvement in 4-H with the Vermilion 4-H Sheep

Club. She’s also helped with showmanship, grooming and public speaking clinics in the area, spoke at the 4-H Alberta Leaders’ Conference Premier’s Award Recipient Luncheon in January, and has represented the 4-H program at various events.

A long time ago, when I sent my record collection by bus and neglected to insure it, I lost almost every album I’d ever owned.

I was really, really attached to those records. They were never recovered.

Hard lesson learned.

Record stores were big stuff for a long time, a gathering place for music people----those who created and those who listened. But they’re a rarity these days, especially in smaller centres. The long play vinyl record album has increasingly been spurned by the general music consuming public. New technology combined with multiple ways of acquiring music rendered the traditional community record store nearly obsolete, a dinosaur attempting to navigate a ten lane freeway designed for sleek, fleet-footed foxes.

A new era comprised of digital audio files available online from iTunes, Amazon, and a vast array of spin-off vendors and free sites changed the concept of music delivery forever. The average audio consumer appeared to care little for admiring intricate album artwork or reading revealing liner notes while listening, and the fact that the sound quality of music downloaded in an mp3 format paled drastically in comparison to original, studio mastered recordings didn’t phase anybody but the collector/connoisseur. For many, the introduction of the iPod wrote the epitaph for the record store. While big chain stores along with many smaller outlets vanished from the landscape of the retail market, a few redefined themselves and in so doing, established an entity that seemed stable enough for survival: the independent record store.

In 2007, seven hundred independent record store dealers around the United States gathered together and conceived the first official Record Store Day. It was intended to bring together the community

of independent record store owners, their employees, the artists who create the music, the music fans who support them, and anyone else interested in acknowledging, promoting, and celebrating the unique culture of independent record stores in their communities. Along with the obvious benefit of people actually physically gathering together to share their common interest in music instead of sitting alone at home with a laptop downloading tunes, it encouraged people to visit their local record shops to purchase vinyl, CDs, and limited edition releases by their favourite artists, some of whom might even make an appearance to mingle with fans.

Officially, Record Store Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of April. For many wanting to keep vinyl vital, however, every day is record store day.

If your community is fortunate enough to still have a record store among its retailers, support it or watch it vanish for good.

Now in its eighth year, the event has become an international one with participating stores on every continent except

Antarctica.

So, vinyl records live on, at least in some places. The closest version of an independent record retailer in my immediate area is the spring garage salers offing a few scratchy albums gathering dust in the basement. Every now and then, there’s a diamond selling for fifty cents or a dollar. Over time, I’ve managed to replace a lot of my “lost” collection. Some of the more obscure among them are just gone forever and that’s life.

This Record Store Day, I’ll be in my living room instead of a store but I support the effort, if only in spirit. When I select a record to spin, I’ll look over the album cover artwork in detail. I’ll read through some of the notes on the back even though I will have read them before many times. And when I slip the album onto the turntable and drop the diamond needle gently into a groove, I’ll take note of how slowly the whole process unfolds, how precise it is, and how present I am during it. Then I’ll turn up the volume to listen, the album cover in hand. Maybe the cat and I will dance a little, like nobody’s watching.

ing us a lot of money so we thought the best way to solve that problem was to get our own pen. Originally we sent a capital request to the College but unfortunately due to certain budget cuts we were unable to receive funding. Through the College Dairy Club,

we held a fundraising week at a local dair y farm and from there we were able to purchase the chute.” The chute provides better safety for the students and saves money in the long run.

Interior Decorating and Design Trends 2015

In the world of interior decorating and design, there is always some thing new and exciting happening. New colours, new patterns and styles are always available every day. With so much choice, making decisions can be even more difficult. Sometimes it is more about being a great editor, eliminating and refining the choices down to what really suits you and your needs.

The world of interior design is in constant change. We are leaving behind a decade of Mac mansions, where the expense and desire for super-sized homes, caused the collapse and real estate crisis of 2008 in the United States.

The coinciding world recession, has given birth to more sustainable ideas of

home and personal space. An emerging trend is the design of very small and efficient homes. Whether your home is large, small or just right, it is always fun to create a fresh new look, working with the space you have.

Some of the current trends in interior design and decorating include painting the wall, crown moulding and baseboards all the same color. In the past, a lot of new home owners were opting for a palette in grey and soft white and this trend is continuing. Grey is accented with yellow and golds, or with purple and mauves and even with aqua and pale green. Another stylish color scheme is grey and beige, which looks very elegant. Currently, white is the new hot color for walls. White is often seen paired with shades of aqua and pale green. White is also contrasted with peacock feature walls and golden metal colors. At both the Toronto and Edmonton shows the new emerging metal colour

is gold. There is also a mixing of metals such as gold, silver, copper and wrought iron.

Geometric patterns, chevron and the ikat pattern are still trending. These patterns can be used for wallcovering, drapery, bedding and cushion accents.

Linen is a favoured textile as use in bedding and drapery. Bamboo continues as an emerging textile, it has great durability, softness and the feel of luxury in sheets and towels. Wallpaper has made a big comeback, but it is not your grandmother’s wallpaper. Single feature walls of a bold geometric paper, become a fantastic and bold statement in a room. Wall paper is commonly used as a feature wall in a living room, dining room, bedroom or bathroom. Large scale wall paper murals are also being widely used for impact, mood and their ability to expand space.

There are quick and easy ways to perk up your space for spring using decora-

tive accessories. The pussy willows are currently out, and a trip out to a country roadside with a pair of garden shears can earn you a lovely and large vase of these artistic branches. Tulips are in season and can be picked up inexpensively now at several stores. A new shower curtain in a modern color and pattern is a splashy bathroom update. Brighten your living room with some new toss cushions in an uplifting color, or if you can sew you can simply make some new covers. Adding fresh window coverings is another way to breathe new life into a room. A runner or tablecloth for the dining room can add a pop of color and bring in a fresh look for spring.

The great thing about interior decorating today is that, more than ever your rooms can be a personal expression of you. When you select style trends and colors that you love, then your room is sure to stand the test of time for you.

Crazy Hat And Outfit Challenge Lorna Hamilton Reporter

Kirby Whitlock from Sears and Christina’s Home Furnishings has recently become a new member of the Vermilion Rotary Club. As a sort of initiation, the club thought it would be a good idea for

Whitlock to dress in funny outfits during the Rotary Club garage sale and give him the challenge of trying to sell the outfit.

These were not normal ever yday outfits, his first crazy outfit on Thursday night was a pink shower cap, 2 pompoms and a pink bacheloret te badge. A few minutes into the challenge

Whitlock said, “ I realized I wasn’t going to be able to sell it, so I changed it up and decided to gather donations from attendees who wanted me to wear the outfit for the rest of the evening. I raised $177.50 in donations on Thursday.”

Friday evening the Rotary changed up the outfit to incorporate a new crazy hat and Whitlock proceeded to act in a silly manner to catch attention from the crowd and receive a donation. Whitlock said, “I raised $190 that evening.”

On Saturday, the last day of the garage sale, Whitlock was once again dressed in a crazy outfit, a wild hat which the Rotary ladies designed them-

selves, the pink bachelorette badge, a lace curtain shawl, a bright fuchsia and purple scarf and a masquerade mask.

Whitlock had a party megaphone which he spoke through to grab even more attention. He was attempting to sell the outfit for $100 but graciously accepted any donation a customer wanted to give for him to continue wearing the crazy outfit for the whole day. On his Saturday crazy hat and outfit challenge he raised a total of $325.

Whitlock said, “The community really stepped up and supported the crazy hat and outfit, challenge I was participating in and I am very thankful for it.”

Third first report card of the semester was given to students last week.

Grade 10 students have been given the opportunity to become certified through St. John’s Ambulance in First Aid Emergency or First Aid Standard. Students are enrolled in a 1- or 2-day course and will all be certified by the end of the month! Another Grade 10 opportunity will take place on May 6 as students participate in the Bi-Provincial Try-A-Trade Career Expo in Lloydminster.

Students will spend a hands-on day experiencing various trades activities and actions.

The day will offer a glimpse of different workplace duties and provide knowledge about career opportunities and how to get

Green Tee Time “The beer will be cold and the grass will be green,” said Manager Cam Golby as the Vermilion Golf and Country Club opened for business on Wednesday, April 15. The club has been a part of the community since 1947.

The course features 9-holes to challenge all skill levels, as well as a full driving range and practice facility. The grass on the beautifully contoured 2,920 yard par 35 course is cut and maintained every day. The outdoor deck provides a relaxed setting overlooking the lake.

Full House At The Mannville Ag Society’s 40th Anniversary

The M annville Ag So c iet y c ele brated its 40 th anniversar y with a fundraising steak supper at the Rec Centre on Saturday. President Michael Bury said the society received many

generous donations from sponsors including some large ticket items for the evening’s live and silent auctions.

He added that the money raised will go toward maintaining the ag society’s buildings. Approximately 300 people in attendance to celebrate and support the fundraiser.

EH Walter Sod Turning Event Submitted

A sod-turning ceremony took place Monday, April 13 at EH Walter School to kickoff the new EH Walter replacement school in Paradise Valley. The event was celebrated outside with the students and staff at EH Walter. The community wanted a larger gym in the new school to be used for functions such as weddings, plays, funerals, etc. The new school plan had a gym that was smaller than our current gym, plus there was no stage. The community took it upon themselves to fundraise to expand the gym, bringing it from 400 square meter to 650 square meter with a 50 square meter stage. The total cost was $1,360,000.

The community went to the County of

Vermilion River and asked for a debenture to be added to their land taxes to cover a portion of the amount, and the County agreed to a total of $750,000. They also gave a County of Vermilion River Grant of $50,000. We put together a Community Fundraising Committee to take on the task of raising the rest of the funds.

The committee fundraised donations from corporations, local businesses, and community members arecurrently sitting at $1,289,855.5. This is an incredible testament to the community. There have been many generous local businesses and corporations, and a large percentage of the money raised has been donated by Paradise Valley community members, farmers, and small businesses.

The Art Of Letting Go At The 5th Annual Spring Art Show Shannon O’ Connor Reporter

“I think it has become an anticipated event in our community,” said Sandra Miller, the chair of the fif th annual Spring Art Show that took place at the Regional Centre on Friday night and Saturday.

A good crowd showed up to view and purchase the work of the 28 local participating artists, as well as to have a glass of wine, some cheese and listen to up-and-coming singer/songwriter Hannah Dupuis perform a selection of smooth songs by various artists such as Adele and Tracey Chapman.

Miller, who is also an artist in the show, said it is important for artists to show their work, especially for the first time.

One of those first time ar tists is Al Wilson who star ted painting on his own and then signed up at the Vermilion Communit y Ar t Club and was encouraged by Miller to show his work. When asked how he would describe his style, a passerby simply said, “Talented.”

Wilson works in acrylics and mixed media and applies a “no rules” approach to his abstract work which garnered a lot of attention from attendees and resulted in some sales for this first time exhibitor.

“I’m a little out of my comfort zone, I ’m a pret t y pr i vate p er s o n,” s a i d Wilson who didn’t even put prices on his art work. He agreed there is a level of excitement that accompanied showing his work for the first time.

S i m i l a r t o W i l s o n ’s “ n o r u l e s ” approach is this year’s featured artist, Joan Blamire, whose style is based on the “ fearless” approach used by Ca l g ar y ar t i s t S am a nt h a d aS il va .

Blamire said this concept is about “Letting the paint do its thing.”

On Saturday, Blamire demonstrated the different stages involved in “fear-

less” art. Applying paint to the canvas with rollers rather than brushes, using the floor or table instead of an easel and saturating the paint with water then removing it with paper towels i s all par t of t he pro c e s s. “ T hat ’s when stuff happens,” added Blamire.

“Anybody can do ‘fearless’.”

Bonnie Luopa has worked predominantly in watercolours and has now moved into large canvas acrylics. She took one of Blamire’s classes in the “fearless” style and said it taught her to just “let go.”

Despite the fact that some artists like Luo pa have exhibited several times, Miller said their work grows and changes over the years. “Bonnie is doing something different this year… everybody’s art evolves. I am blown away by what she is doing now.”

Lakeland College Farm Tour Karen King, Vermilion Elementary School Submitted The VES Klondike Relay team took part in the “A” school competition on April 7 at the University of AlbertaButterdome. 31 students from Grades 4 through 6 competed in ball throw, standing long jump, and sprint relays.

The team was competitive in all events, earning ribbons and/or team points in six separate events, and coming very close in a couple of others. To our athletes, remember that in some cases your placing was out of as many as 61 teams. Team members were involved in some of the most exciting sprint finishes of the evening, giving everyone

lots to cheer about.Team members, as always, supported each other from the stands and on the track. During a year such as this, when the event is held during our Easter break, we are especially proud of our athletes – and grateful to their parents – for turning out in such force. Thanks to the legion of loyal supporters who made the trip west, and to the parents who so patiently waited for our late return. You are indeed Jaguar Nation. Congratulations to all 31 Jaguars. Special congratulations to the Grade 5/6 “A” mixed medley squad, who won the event.That’s right: first out of 61 teams. Hear the roar.

This week the kindergarten classes at VES had the pleasure of going to Lakeland College to tour the farm. They started their tour in the sheep barn, where the students were introduced to

a mom and her two baby lambs, and wool and its uses were discussed.

Joanne, from the college, showed t he stu d ent s how t he s hee p were fed and how their wool was sheared.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the sheep eating from their hands. The next stop was the dairy barn where the students were introduced to a dairy calf named, Chance. Chance was on his best behaviour as the kids took turns petting him. Next, Joanne brought out a dairy cow and explained how a cow produces milk and part of the process it takes to make it.Hats off to Joanne for showing the kindergarten classes around. They had a fabulous afternoon learning.

The week of April 12 to 18 was National Volunteer Week. Thank you to all the seniors that continue to make a difference by providing their time and energy to help make others lives interesting and activities affordable.

March was a very busy time at the Seniors’ Centre. There were all kinds of activities; the most noticeable was that of the construction of the new stage and all the fallout that happens when construction takes place. New ramps, fresh paint, new sound system, new window coverings, the final result very pleasing to the eye. Thank you to Dianne Dunn, Judy Woyewitka, Cecile McCrae, and Paul Mistal for the planning and managing of this project.

Senior Centre News The Seniors held their Annual Meeting on March 19. Coffee and donuts were served to those attending. All the executive positions remain the same as last year.

We have 128 members at this time. Anyone 55 and over is welcome to join the Senior Centre.

The Vermilion Senior’s Floor Curling Tournament held on March 25 was deemed a success. Sixteen teams of floor curlers participated. Alf Peterson’s team from Wainwright won lst place, Stan Smith and Harry Rathje’s team from Mannville tied for 2nd, John Scott’s team and Joe Laboucane’s team tied for 3rd. The roast pork supper was served to 70 people.

Crib Doubles continues to provide entertainment for card players. On March 12, the winners were: lst place – Marg Osinchuk and Tillie Hynek, 2nd – Herb and Violet

The 2nd Annual Fish Dinner took place on Good Friday, April 3. Easter was early this year, last year Good Friday was April 18. Sixty-six tickets were sold. The winner of the Easter Egg Draw was Karmyn Zayac.

The following won door prizes: Tina Zayac, Marion Kenzie, Donna Mistal, Dawn Filgate, and Mamie Sainsbury. Thank you to all the helpers and donations that make this occasion a success. The homemade buns and pies were a hit!

The Seniors Choir is planning their annual spring festival in May. The date is unknown at this time. Watch for posters!

The Seniors Centre will be used for Election Day on May 5, and on April 22 for training of the polling clerks.

The next Executive Meeting will be held on May 11 to accommodate the Alberta 55+ Contract Bridge Tournament to be held on May 12.

Activities are being planned for Seniors Week the first week of June. Keep posted!

Slick Roadshow At The Vermilion UFA Shannon O’ Connor Reporter

Rock stars go on tour, but lubricants? The oil products in question that are partying like rock stars are part of the Shell Rotella Roadshow that stopped at the Vermilion UFA on Monday.

The products are being hauled from

stop to stop in a 53 foot double bump out trailer that comes complete with its own tour manager and “roadies” to explain the interactive displays and demos that are on board.

“commercial and agricultural farmers in the area.”

Apart from the trailer, customers were invited to enjoy beef-on-a-bun, coffee, treats, prizes and deals on the Shell Rotella product line.

The tour will continue to visit truck stops and lube centers throughout Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and the U.S. for the next eight months.

Celebration Of Learning Susan Obrigewitch, Mannville School Submitted

After playing at the BTJHAA Badminton Northern, three of our junior high students will be going on to the Finals at JR Robson on Tuesday, April 21. Baylee Konieczny and Cole Demas came home with gold and Jordan Borysiuk came home with silver.

Lakeland College will again be hosting the regional skills competition for high school students on Friday, April 24. This opportunity shines the spotlight on trades careers and capabilities. Our school will have Braden Mytz attending in the carpentry competition.

A VIBE noon hour group called ‘Creativ-itea’ has started. For anyone interested in taking part, this is an opportunity to simply create; whether it be art, writing or Lego.

Time together is spent being imaginative and creative, while also sipping on yummy fruity tea!

Kindergarten will be flourishing in April as they opened up a flower shop and are learning about growing plants! Kindergarten parents mark your calendar for the evening of April 23 for the annual Kindergarten Celebration of Learning. The kinderkids will be demonstrating all the skills that they are mastering this year in preparation for Grade 1!

The Grade1’s have been very busy BUILDING! They just completed their marble runs that took time, patience and creativity! In math, the students are learning

about 2D and 3D shapes.

Mrs. Miller’s Grade 2 class’ next science unit is on Buoyancy and Boats.

Mrs. Kerri Lorenson, VIBE coach, has been in coaching the Grade 4 class on a new program called BMW. This program assists children in elementary classrooms with stress. Students have discussed what stress is and what they can do to relax and calm themselves.

Miss Cusack’s Grade 5 students have finished up their Mechanisms Using Electricity unit. The students were very creative with the lunchbox alarms they built and many of the alarms would keep the lunch thieves out.

The Grade 6 students experienced a

very motivating novel study titled Indian in the Cupboard. They are just learning about the Iroquois Confederacy in Social Studies and this novel helped them to empathize with differences and appreciate cultures and customs, plus learn how people function in a society. All societies have rules, and the way that they govern themselves can look very different.

The Grade 3 students are engineers in

their science unit called “Building With a Variety of Materials”. They have completed models of living things, gift boxes, toilet paper tube vases, and pieces of furniture.

They have learned about the different kinds of bridges and made a model of a suspension bridge in class. Upcoming projects included towers, newspaper stools and bridges. Upcoming: It Can’t Happen To Me – April 29.

Vermilion Quilt Show

On May 2 and 3, the Vermilion Regional Center will be transformed into a visual delight of colour and design as the Vermilion Quilters’ Guild hosts its 18th annual quilt show with over 200 large and small quilts being displayed. Constructed by guild members and guest quilters, the quilts will include lap sized quilts, baby quilts, wall hangings, bags and many other quilted items.

The show is open Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Live music during the show will feature youth and adult entertainers from the Vermilion area. A local jazz trio, RBG Band, will perform as a special treat early Saturday afternoon. Come look at the quilts, listen to the music, have coffee and goodies, or stay for a lunch of homemade soup and sandwiches.

This year’s featured quilter is Darlene Barlow of Vermilion. Darlene has been a guild member for about 10 years and has been actively quilting for 16 years. She will have a display of quilts that she has created over the past years, along with a group of

quilts that span three generations.

Guild members participated in two club challenges this year. At the beginning of the quilt year, challenge rules were presented and each participant interpreted the rules independently, making for a very interesting variety of quilts. Plan to vote for your favourites.

The array of quilts displayed in the Regional Centre foyer, all made by the Vermilion Guild members, will be donated to The Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. Each child hospitalized receives a quilt made by an Alberta quilter. The Vermilion Quilters’ Guild regularly donates approximately 25 quilts to the Stollery following the quilt show.

Have you ever been the recipient of a quilt? If so, cherish it. In addition to the many, many hours the quilter spends constructing the quilt, the cost of materials is an important factor. A queen-sized quilt top will require five to seven meters of fabric for the top and another three to six meters for the backing. Good quality quilting fabric ranges from $16 to $22 per meter. Between these two layers is the batting. Because it is difficult to quilt a very large quilt on a domestic sewing machine, most quilters

send their finished tops and backing to a long arm quilter. Once the quilt has been quilted and the binding attached, the quilter may have invested more than $500. Some of the more elaborate quilts can be valued well over $1000.

Extraordinary Extras of Vermilion, Wishes & Dreams of Vermilion, Village Treasurers of Mannville and MRS Custom Longarm Quilting of Elk Point all offer longarm quilting services. To watch a long-arm machine in action, stop in at Extraordinary Extras during store hours. It is fascinating to watch.

Each visitor to the show is given one white glove to wear to allow touching of the

quilts. Visitors are asked to choose their favorite quilts, the ones they would most like to own, by marking a Viewers’ Choice ballot for the large and small quilts and for the Challenge quilts. Viewers’ Choice winners are presented with first and second place ribbons shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. This is an exciting time to be in attendance.

Entrance to the show is $5, with children under 12 free. Soup and sandwiches are extra. Tickets for raffle baskets of quilted and non-quilted items are available to add to the fun.

Af ter a wond erful relaxing week the students and staff hit the ground running on Monday, April 13 with a week full of activities.

Three days last week had our Jr. High and Sr. High Badminton teams competing in tournaments representing St. Jerome’s School. On Tuesday, the Jr. High teams competed in the Highway 16 Championships. Silver winners: Janyl Bardoel, Shae Collins and Sierra King, Marc Langawin and John Carlos, Paul Dahoy and Megan Krys. Bronze winners: Lauren Pollard, Braden Tyner, Montana Young, Rona Sumalileng and Ruby Anne Sumalileng, Kadyn Bardoel. On Wednesday the Jr. High team travelled to Wainwright to compete in ECACS Championships. Gold winners: Megan Krys and Evan Sader, Shae Collins and Janyl Bardoel, Jesse Rogan, Lauren Pollard, Sam Rutt, Rona Sumalileng. Silver winners: Sierra King, Ruby Anne Sumalileng, Montana Young, Amanda Collins and Jorja McIntyre, Kadyn Bardoel.

Congratulations to our entire Jr. High Badminton team. The Grade 8 players attended a tournament this past weekend in Kitscoty and the grade 7 team will attend this weekend.

On Thursday the Sr. Badminton team competed in districts, which was hosted between J. R. Robson and St. Jerome’s.

Gold and Silver medalists advance to Zones, which are held in Lloydminster Wednesday, April 22. Gold winners: Bailey Koebel, Julien Quickstad. Silver winners: Morgan Wilson and Sydney Poliakiwski, Hanna Ludlage and Matthew Pulyk, Keelan Bardoel. Bronze winners: Michael Menzies, Jakob McCormack and Dane Martin. Congratulations to all of the badminton team and good luck at zones.

On Wednesday, April 15th, 2015, the Grade 6 class visited the Town Office.

The students were informed on how our local government is run. This is a topic we are currently discussing in our Social Studies 6 class. Mr. Dion Pollard was our leader; he took us through the steps and processes of our municipal government. The students were very eager to see what new and exciting things are happening and going to happen in Vermilion. Alberta Health Services who gave a presentation on “Reaching Out”. The presentation focused on how you can help out your friends, classmates or family members when they are in difficulty and especially if you are worried about suicide. The students were given tips on what to look for, how to help, whom to contact and resources that are available.

It was an excellent presentation and all the students felt it was extremely beneficial.

On Tuesday, April 14 we gathered with the community of Holy Name Parish for our monthly mass. Father Roger reminded us that Easter is the most important of Christian Celebrations because we celebrate the resurrection of the Risen Lord.

He shared how even the disciples were afraid until the Holy Spirit gave them the power to create the Christian church and how we too have that power and we do not need to be afraid.

BYOB – “Bring Your Own Banana” was celebrated on Wednesday, April 15 as the High School Student Council treated students from kindergarten to Grade 12 to banana splits. Yum! Yum! A representative from Alberta Farm Safety visited students grade 1 to 6 to review the importance of being safe around ATVs, animals – especially horses, water and other farm equipment. Students were reminded of the “1 Seat – 1 Rider” rule and the importance of wearing a helmet through a variety of

hands on and interactive activities. At this time of year it is always a good review for students before they get out on their quads, horses, etc.

Jump Rope for Heart event was held for the elementary students on Friday, April 17. They were all treated to a frozen fruitsicle after taking turns skipping over the period of one hour. Congratulations to all the students who raised close to $6000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Students from grade 6-12 received their report cards on Friday and ParentTeacher Interviews will be on Wednesday, April 22 from 3:30-8:30 pm.

The Last Of The Wild Horses

The wild horse population in Alberta today is estimated to be between 500 and 1,000. Over the last few decades these horses have been chased for sport, shot, snared, roped, corralled and sent to slaughter. Government approved culls in the past have resulted in conflict and protest, and since then the Alberta government has agreed to a new pilot project to manage the number of wild horses left in the Sundre area.

Bob Henderson, a spokesman for the Wild Horses Society of Alberta (WHOAS)

said, “We have signed an agreement with the government and they are allowing us five years to show that our program can work. They have given us the opportunity to proceed with our adoption and vaccine contraception program. It’s our goal now to prove our management strategy is the way to go so that there won’t be any more culls like there has been in the past.”

The Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD), also known as The Fish and Wildlife, refer to the horses as ‘feral equines’ which means a wild animal descended from domesticated animals. While the Wild Horses of Alberta Society say, “If an animal is born

into the wild and has been running wild for many generations who is to say that it’s not wild.”

“The new vaccine program will be administered to give the mares a pregnancy break for up to three years. The vaccine does not sterilize the horses whatsoever. We hope that the pregnancy break will allow a wild horse mare to build up her body reserves and therefore in the future able to produce healthier foals. We have always believed in the management of herds. We know it will work, we just need time to prove,” Henderson said last week.

Duncan MacDonnell from the Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development was unable to comment last week stating, “While an election is going on we cannot comment on any programs or policies.”

Former veterinar ian an d PC candidate Dr Richard Starke said last week, “The topic of the wild horses is an emotional one

for many people. The work that is being done by the ESRD is to try to ensure that the population that is there is healthy and sustainable, where they are not causing a lot of negative impact with farmers and ranchers. It is also important to recognize that they are a part of our history and heritage. One of the things that needs to be done is that we need to have a better understanding of their history and lineage.”

Every museum in Alberta includes horses in almost every picture and aspect of history. They are a fundamental part of western heritage and of the First Nations people.

History states that horses were first introduced to the American continents by Columbus and the Spaniards in 1493. By 1690, large herds of wild horses were roaming in areas known today as Mexico and Texas. A native tribe called the Blackfoot Indians are said to have brought the first horses to Alberta around the mid 1700s. It is understood that after time these horses began to roam free. First Nations elders and the old timers tell stories of there always being horses running free and wild in the Sundre part of Alberta.

Sadly, there is a strong conflict of opinion around wild horses today. Some say the Wild Horses are a myth, while many others defend them as mysterious, majestic and a symbol of freedom.

Fire Ban Issued By County Of Vermilion River Marie Conboy Reporter

A par tial fire ban was issued last week, effective April 10 in the County of Vermilion River. There has been a large increase in the number of grass fires in the Vermilion area last week due to the very dry conditions. Vermilion Fire Chief Bill Roth said. “ M ost of the fires we have had recently have been wild lands or grass fires. The nor th eastern par t of the province is very dry right now. There have been combinations of different things starting the fires locally, some of t h e fire s h ave b e e n c au s e d by people doing yard clean up with the dry conditions, the ground still hot and the wind. Some people have burning permits that were issued back in the wintertime, so a fire ban has been put in place right now by the County of

Vermilion River.”

All fire permits issued are cancelled until further notice. Recreational fires and incinerator fires are permitted but must be contained, super vised and fully extinguished upon completion.

Tuesday, April 14 the Vermilion fire department responded to a call to a grass fire north of Highway 41 where a person had been doing some welding and the fire got out of control. “We have been very fortunate to get to the fires quick and we haven’t lost any property yet.”

Vermilion Fire Chief Bill Roth also urges ever yone to have awareness and said, “Right now we would recommend that people do not start any fires, not even a camp fire.”

JR B Tigers Windup The Season Lorna Hamilton Reporter

On Saturday, April 11 the JR B Tigers held an emotional wind- up banquet and awards evening.

Each year the North Eastern Junior B Tigers holds its awards evening and recognizes members of the team, association and sponsors for all the work they have put into making the year successful.

While the JR B’s did not do as well as they hoped, success does not always have to do with how many games you have won said outgoing president, Keith Wilkinson.

“Success is measured in how hard your boys play and the attitude they bring forth all year long, and our boys would do anything asked of them, they gladly did it without asking any questions.”

The evening was emotional for all concerned as the JR B’s said goodbye to four of their graduating players from the division. In appreciation for all their hard work over the years, the association presented each a JR B jersey with their name on the back.

As the evening continued, multiple awards were handed out by the sponsors. Ken Woywika who represented the

Nick Woywitka Memorial, presented Lucas Dennill with rookie of the year Head coach Durwin Selte presented Brayden Chalifour the trophy for Most Improved player from sponsor Integra Tire.

Connie Wilkinson representative for Vermilion Credit Union, presented the Most Gentlemanly award to Jared Golinowski.

Most Valueable Player, Dustin Irvine received his award from Stan Boomhower, representative for Fountain Tire.

Kurtis Farkash the Most Popular player, was graced with his award from John Stewart owner of Craig’s Department Store.

Mike Webb from Webb’s Ford, presented Dustin Irvine the Ina Webb Memorial award for the most dedicated player.

Best Defenseman went to Spencer Ross, presented by Hedley Dennil, representative for Dennill’s Agricenter Ltd. Trent Dutchak received the Unsung Hero award from assistant coach Eddie Vidal, who presented on behalf of Vermilion Insurance.

Co-winners Kyler Anderson and Craig Wilkinson, received the Top Scorer award that was presented to them by a JR B Executive.

The Joy Burnet Award was designed to recognize Joy for all her years of dedication

to the Tigers Hockey Club. The award is to be given to an individual who contributes to making the Tigers a better association.

This years’ Joy Burnett Memorial Award was presented to Ray Bourner. Bourner came to Vermilion a couple of years ago and contacted President Keith Wilkinson to see if there was anything he could do to help within the hockey league. Bourner was recognized for volunteering his time to become a rink attendant and maybe letting the guys get a little ice time early or letting them stay later if they wanted. He also, did

the time sheet in the penalty box when he was not working. The friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society Scholarship went to Jared Golinowski.

Susanna Pankiw, Dewberry School Submitted

As Cesare Pavese once said, “We do not remember days, we remember moments.” The successes enjoyed by the students at Dewberry School over the last few weeks have definitely been moments to remember. From badminton to trick riding our pupils continued to shine bright and ride high!

Just before the Easter break a group of high school students came back glittering from the Holy Rosary badminton tournament. From drop shots to kill shots these students mastered many techniques. Arriving home withmedals: Gold: Vincent Guan (boys singles), Torin Johre and Lucas Dennill (boys doubles); Silver: Remington Oneschuk and Keagan Rewuski (boys doubles). These two teams actually had to play each other in the final round! Way to show them, boys!

Bringing home bronze,Kayla Maynes and Rebekah Surina (girls doubles). These same students as well as Kyra Weidmark and Daneca Goldsmith went off to Districtsin Vermilion, on April 17th and kicked it up a notch by bringing home gold medals.

Steven Manchen also played fine rounds of badminton and placed third(boys singles) and Hayley Evison placed fourth(girls singles). What smashing performances!

During Easter the waves of success continued to rise as Paynton Bensmillerdelivered a stellar performance in the Canadian Trick Riding Association Competition in Stoney Plain on April 4th.

Attempting many fanciful maneuvers while balancing on the back of a horse is not something just anyone can do but Paynton made it look easy. She bounced and twisted herself effortlessly and like the tide, washed treasures of first place for the junior division and a beautiful belt buckle upon her shores. Way to go, Paynton!

Just a few short days after the break the junior high students headed off to play in the BTPS play downs. Topping off the week, the grade 5/6 class swept into Edmonton to experience the wonders of the exhibits at Telus World of Science. Here they acquired first-hand knowledge of the planets and space.

Askany one of them why Pluto is no longer considered a planet and I am sure they’ll be able to tell you. The rest of the afternoon was a journey into politics as they ventured through the legislature building, appreciating the role government plays in their lives.

Another week lies ahead as does the possibility of creating more great moments.

We were blessed with such memorable moments and we want to continue riding that wave!

A customer appreciation event was held Wednesday, April 15 at Mannville Elks/ Legion Hall. Directors and management met and greeted members of the public. There was a large meal provided for everyone followed by a presentation with a 2014 summary of results on the Co-op profits for the year 2014. Well, dance season is in full swing for the Vermilion Dance Association. The instructors, parents and especially the dancers have worked really hard to have routines, costumes, hair and makeup just right for festivals and the year end recital.

Our club attended Fort Saskatchewan’s Standing Ovation festival from April 10-12.

The dancers all did very well and learned a lot from their adjudications. It was the first festival of the season and a good way to get back into the swing of things.

We will also be attending our own festival here at the Lakeland College from April 16-19. This will be a celebration for us as it is our 25th year of hosting a festival. Lloydminster is holding a festival at the same time and we will be sending our group dances there as well. It will certainly be a busy weekend!

VDA has a year-end recital coming up on Sunday, April 26 at 1 p.m. It will be held at the Vermilion College Theatre. Our theme this year is “Dancespiration”. It is a showcase of all of our dancers’ talents and a place where parents, grandparents, family and community members can enjoy a variety of genres of dance. There will be ballet, lyrical, tap, hip hop, Irish, and jazz inspired routines. Our dancers enjoy performing for their friends and family.

Our club encourages dancer inclusion and many of the pieces for the older aged groups and solos/duets are choreographed by the instructors along with a little help from the dancers as well. Some of our dancers can only commit to dancing an hour to one and a half hours per week. Their talents are just as appreciated and we love that they are able to express themselves through dance and have fun doing it.

We would love for you to come out and join us Sunday, April 26 at the Vermilion College Theatre for an afternoon of dance.

Oil Spill

The Vermilion Voice | April 20, 2015

The Vermilion Fire Department responded to an oil spill call on April 16. A high sprayer machine burst its pipe while turning the corner on Highway 41 and 47th Ave. The road was closed briefly while the fire department cleared the spill. The driver of the truck said. “It’s a brand new sprayer. I’m still trying to figure out what happened”. Photos Marie Conboy
