Dr. Tracy Edwards, President of Lakeland College presented former Alberta Premier Ed Stalmach, with his Honorary Bachelor of Applied Business Degree at the Convocation ceremonies held on May 30 at the Vermilion Regional Centre.
Lakeland College Celebrates 2014 Convocation Ceremonies Karen Nedzielski Reporter The Lakeland College 2014 Convocation Ceremonies held at the Vermilion Regional Centre on May 30, featured honorary guest and former Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach, who was recognized as Lakeland College’s Distinguished Citizen and was awarded an Honorary Bachelor of Applied Business Degree. The approximate 150 graduates partic-
ipating in the convocation ceremonies were led in by the Lakeland Pipe and Drum before the morning program got underway acknowledging: the Environmental Science, Environmental Conservation and Reclamation, Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation, Environmental Monitoring and Protection, Renewable Energy and Conservation, Environmental Management, Child and Youth Care, Early Learning and Child Care, Educational Assistant, Sign Language Interpretation and the
American Sign Language and Deaf Culture Studies programs. In Stelmach’s address to the graduates, family members and faculty, he said as a grandson of immigrants, he was honoured to serve as Premier of, what his ancestors called, “their second home.” Although his formal post-secondary training was cut short to return to the family farm near Andrew, Alberta, Stelmach said the value in education is in the ability to learn.
