Oil Tanker Accident Sends One Man To Hospital
On Dec. 12 at approximately 12:50 p.m. the RCMP along with members of the Mannville Fire Department were called out to a single tractor-trailer rollover approximately five miles south of Mannville on Highway 881. Mannville Fire Chief Desmond Shubert said the semi tanker hauling oil was heading southbound and lost control of the unit and entered the ditch. It then proceeded to jack-knife and the trailer detached from the truck and rolled, coming to rest in the southbound lane. The truck rolled into the southbound ditch and the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was unable to exit the vehicle. The jaws-of-life were required to free the driver and he was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. The highway was closed to traffic as crews worked well into the evening cleaning up the wreck. The highway was then reopened to traffic and do to a timely response, the Mannville Fire Department was able to contain the oil spill. At the time of the accident, Chief Shubert said it was undetermined as to the cause of the accident but said the weather may have been a contributing factor. See more on page 2.
