CONNECT WITH THE CIRCUMPOLAR WORLD In March 2018, the Arctic Winter Games are returning to the Northwest Territories’ South Slave region for the first time in 40 years. Hosted jointly by the communities of Hay River and Fort Smith, the Games’ 25th Anniversary will be a milestone event and a unique opportunity to connect with a large, highly engaged audience from across the Canadian north and circumpolar world.

A FEW FACTS: • 2500 participants and visitors are expected to attend the games from Alaska, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Northern Alberta, Nunavik Quebec, Greenland, Russia and Scandinavia • Past Games have seen an injection of $7-$10 million into the regional economy • Over 200 local, national, and international media outlets are expected to cover the event - from CBC North through CNN

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY The Arctic Winter Games are a sponsorship opportunity unlike any other. The AWG brand is a household name across Alaska, the three Canadian territories and all the way to Russia and Scandinavia! Along with sports, the event serves as a cultural and political hub that brings together the North’s artists and leaders in a very special way. Sponsoring the Games allows you to directly reach thousands of athletes, volunteers, visitors, artists and leaders while supporting meaningful sport and community development.

ABOUT THE GAMES In 1967, Yukoner Cal Smith, Commissioners Stuart Hodgson of NWT and James Smith of Yukon envisioned an event where northern athletes could develop new skills and personal bests while competing on “their own turf, and on their own terms.” Their dream became a reality in 1970 at the first-ever Arctic Winter Games in Yellowknife and has since grown into the Circumpolar North’s signature sporting and cultural event.

Along with modern sports such as hockey, volleyball and curling, the AWG includes traditional sports of the Dene and Inuit. It also offers cultural exhibitions and facilitates social and cultural exchange for the world’s remote northern regions.

The 2018 South Slave Arctic Winter Games is a non-profit registered society that will plan and execute the 2018 Arctic Winter Games. Our goal is to make the Games’ 25th anniversary the event to remember.

The Host Society Board of Directors is a dynamic cross-section of South Slave volunteers dedicated to spending thousands of hours to help participants find their power during this exceptional sporting and cultural experience.

ARCTIC WINTER GAMES COST: $7.3 MILLION OUR SPONSORSHIP GOAL: $2.5 MILLION As official Games Partners, the Government of Canada, the Government of the Northwest Territories, the Town of Hay River and the Town of Fort Smith will cover about two-thirds of the cost of this volunteer-run event. The rest will be generated through sponsors who see value in working with the Games to promote their business or organization while being recognized for their vital contribution to the North’s premier sporting and cultural event.

YOUR SPONSORSHIP TARGETED FOR GREATER IMPACT Along with the exposure and related benefits, our sponsorship levels include rights to primary and secondary sponsorships for every venue, sport and major component of the games, such as the opening and closing ceremonies, the athletes’ village and many other opportunities.

As an example, during the event each primary venue sponsor will be referred to in all communications as the Company X Arena in print and online. This is likely to carry over into mentions by visitors and on various broadcasts and media coverage, which will provide even more value. Secondary venue and sport sponsors will receive signage at the various events. Both primary and secondary sponsors will be regularly mentioned on the microphone during breaks in competition.
