National Venturing Committee Boy Scouts of America 11
Bernie Lockard Laurel Highlands Council Indiana, Pennsylvania Bernie has been integral to older youth scouting programs for the past few years while serving in the role of National Venturing Committee Chair. During this time, Venturing has gone through many difficulties, including an already declining membership level amplified by a global pandemic. He has been instrumental in spearheading the push for membership growth. Bernie was able to delicately handle the tough conversations about the future of Venturing. When many were suggesting cuts to the program or restricting age limits, he fought for all older youth programs and ensured they aligned with Scouting’s values. Additionally, Bernie has always valued the input of others, especially youth, in the decision making process. He held bi-monthly calls throughout the course of the term, focusing on both the issues at hand and fostering a strong team environment. Even before his term started, he held meetings with focus groups to discuss Venturing and get insight from others about the program. This allowed him to have a clear view of the wants and needs of the Venturers to better understand the core of the program. This level of input guided him in decision making throughout the term. Already difficult tasks were made more complex by the pandemic and compounded by the restructuring of the program. Nonetheless, Bernie traversed all of these situations with tremendous precision. He worked to restructure the NVOA to align with this new NST model more fluidly. As such, it is an honor to present Bernie Lockard with the National Venturing Leadership Award.

Carina Landgraf South Florida Council Palmetto Bay, Florida
Carina founded her Crew in the South Florida Council in Miami, Florida, back in 2015. Most recently, she served as the National VOA Vice President of Territory Support for the Eastern Territories. In her role as Vice President of Territory Support, Carina mentors and strengthens the leaders of the eight Eastern National Service Territories under her leadership. As the inaugural position holder, created to support the new National Service Territory structure, Carina has defined the responsibilities of the position and provided a solid foundation for future vice presidents to build upon. Her resources, created in conjunction with her counterpart, have enabled Territory VOAs to create strong relationships with Council VOAs and Crews. During the 2020-2021 term, Carina was the driving force behind creating the National Noteworthy Crews distinction. Her work aims to highlight the nation’s most innovative and progressive Venturing crews and allow these crews to share their stories about how they lead the adventure in new and exciting ways. Carina is a Summit Rank Recipient and a Vigil member of O-Shot-Caw Lodge. She currently attends the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida where she’s currently studying Political Science, History, and International Studies. Her infectious energy, strong enthusiasm, and dedicated values to the Scout Oath and Law play a massive role in not only her own life, but the lives she touches. She is from the Middle Tennessee Council in Nashville, Tennessee and currently serves as the National Venturing Training Chair, having previously served Southern Region Area 6 as the Associate Advisor of Administration. Since 2018, Cynthia has been leading teams and task forces focused on updating and improving Venturing training courses, some of which needed serious revisions and updates. She has been a driving force in updating, unit beta-testing, and publishing courses such as Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews, Powder Horn, Kodiak Challenge, and Crew Officers’ Orientation. Since transitioning into her role as the National Venturing Training Chair, she’s worked tirelessly to get training syllabi “out from the closet” and into the hands of Venturers and advisors. Freedom Tansley Transatlantic Council London, England
Freedom is described as a light to those around him, maintaining a positive attitude instrumental to completing the tasks at hand. He stepped into the role of National Vice President of Program, serving as the first individual to ever hold this position. Having no legacy to follow, he paved the path for what this position should be, developing a large volume of material to help others build programs at all levels of scouting. Freedom has worked to develop planning guides for crews and council VOAs. His work through the Exploring ALPS initiative on social media also helped share the inspiring work of units across the country at a crew level. He has also been working with the Outdoor Ethics and Conservation subcommittee to incorporate inclusive language for Venturing youth into the Scouting Program. Freedom exemplifies leadership and has strongly shown the skill of building teams. He understands that we are stronger together, and even created the Winter Social Event for Territory Presidents and Vice Presidents so that they could bond better and share best practices. As all those around him attest, he is a servant leader who humbly puts the needs of his team and projects first. National Venturing Committee is proud to award the National Venturing Leadership Award to Freedom Tansley.

Gail Plucker Middle Tennessee Council Brentwood, Tennessee As the current National Venturing Commissioner, Gail focuses on Venturing's retention of membership by providing direct support to each Crew and assisting with the rechartering process, and giving them resources to help their success. She is also a strong advocate for Venturing as she explains to many across the Boy Scouts of America why Venturing is an essential part of Scouting. Gail's creativity and dedication to Venturing have made a clear impact on the program and its membership. Gail’s contributions to Venturing have been so impactful that Venturing’s Key Three have begun considering themselves the Key Four, with Gail as the fourth member. Gail has not only built great relations with other stakeholders in Scouting, poured countless hours into Venturing, and become well known for her superb communication skills, but she also shows great leadership through the relationship she has established with the NVOA as she forges a path for Venturing recruitment and retention efforts. Further, Gail's passion and positive energy make her a great asset to Venturing and a pleasure to work with. In all that she does, Gail eagerly searches for ways to help those around her. Gail's constant search for new ways to help those involved with Venturing leads her to being a deserving recipient of the National Venturing Leadership Award.

Tanadet Itsarapakdetam Capital Area Council/Western Los Angeles Area Council Elgin, Texas Tanadet--also more commonly referred to as "T"--has served as the National Venturing Committee Vice Chair of Administration since 2019. In this role, he manages and supports several subcommittees that are instrumental to the success of Venturing. While T often works behind the scenes and does not seek recognition, others would not be able to do their jobs without the resources, training, encouragement, and support T gives them. T’s leadership is especially evident as he finds Venturing youth with great potential, helps them rise to leadership positions in Venturing, and mentors them throughout the entirety of their Venturing journey. T’s mentorship allows youth to successfully strengthen the Venturing program and become equipped for future professional environments. Perhaps the most memorable moment of T's Venturing career is seeing youth parade around VenturingFest 2018 with his face on t-shirts, stickers, and a flag, which is a testament to how endeared T is by the Venturing community.
