The meeting focussed on surgically avertable deaths and disability among children, especially in low and middle income countries through early intervention, local empowerment, training, research, networking, and advocacy for national surgical policies. Paediatric surgical professionals and agencies, actively involved in various aspects of children’s surgery from all
over the world came together to discuss the current status of global paediatric surgery and develop an ‘Optimal Resource document for Children’s Surgery’ (OReCS) and create global consensus on essential surgical care for children for all levels of healthcare in low resource settings.
