The event started with prayer at 8.30 am and felicitations by Dr. Biju George, Dr. Anna Pulimood, Dr. Joy Mammen, Professor Chakko Korula Jacob and Professor V. Tamilarasi. The event witnessed over 180 delegates from various parts of India, including adult and paediatric nephrologists, medical and paediatric consultants and trainees, intensivists, physiologists, clinical pharmacists and interns.
The international faculty were Professor Kamel S. Kamel from St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto and Professor George T. John from Brisbane. The national faculty included former Heads of the d e p a r t m e n t P r o f e s s o r. C h a k k o K o r u l a J a c o b a n d P r o f e s s o r V. Tamilarasi, Professor Vimala Ammal and Professor Susan Uthup from Tr i v a n d r u m , Professor N. Gopalakrishnan and Professor Edwin Fernando from Chennai, Professor Mohan Rajapurkar from Nadiad, Professor Abhijit Taraphder from Kolkata, Amit Gupta from Lucknow, Dr. Rajasekara Chakravarthy from Hyderabad, Dr. Suman Lata from Delhi. The intramural faculty were Professor Nihal Thomas from the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic disorders; Professor Kishore Pichamuthu from MICU and Dr. Smita Mary Matthai from the Central Electron Microscopy Unit.

There was a special session for the nephrology trainees and the post graduates led by Professor Kamel. He took a series of informative lectures and trained the post graduates on varying aspects of “electrolyte and acid-base physiology” followed by combined sessions by Dr. Mandeep and Dr. Neelaveni from General Pathology and Dr. Smita Mary Matthai. The event was awarded 20 CME credit points from the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University.

he 3 rd Annual Renal Symposium and the 13 th Renal Clinical Conference were held on 5 th and 6th of January 2018 on the topic “Fluid, Electrolytes, Acid-Base Disturbances and Acute Kidney Injury”. The objective of the symposium was to provide a comprehensive, yet practical approach to evaluation and management of these disorders through an emphasis on a strong conceptual background, liberally illustrated with case vignettes. The Renal Clinical conference aimed at providing training for the nephrology trainees by allowing them to present cases and interact in active discussion with the faculty and delegates.
