I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the board of Vellore CMC Foundation, New York for enabling me to participate in the International conference on 3D Radiation Dosimetry (IC3DDOSE 2016) at Galveston, Texas, held during 7-11 November 2016. I am working as Lecturer in the Department of Radiotherapy at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, India and pursuing my Ph.D in Gel Dosimetry at The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, India. I am researching on the application of gel dosimetry for end-to-end commissioning of treatment techniques and quality assurance of treatment plans in radiotherapy. The IC3DDOSE conference brings together several researchers from all over the globe working in the field of 3D dosimetry to share their research experience and new developments. The feedback from the conference has helped me to have a wider perspective of 3D research going on and channelize towards the requirements for the future. The workshop on 3D Slicer at the conference gave an insight on how it can be applied in routine dosimetry. There were interesting presentations on Monte Carlo simulations and new gel dosimeters that can be used for 3D dosimetry in my work. Apart from these, refresher courses in the form of morning lectures and invited talks disseminated scientific knowledge throughout the conference. The presentations on dosimetry with Cherenkov radiation were scintillating. I was able to meet Dr. Brian Pogue (Dartmouth/Thayer School of Engineering, Hanover, NH) and his team who shared their experiences in Cherenkov imaging as clinical dosimetry. I met several researchers in the conference who expressed their willingness to collaborate in the future. Dr. Anthony J. Venning (Queensland University of Technology, Australia) assured his help for applying Polymer gel dosimetry with MRI in the clinical setting. I am planning to implement the suggestions given my Dr. Venning for preparing the polymer gel dosimeter at KUMC and image the dose data using MRI. I hope to take back and implement in our department at CMC, what I have learned through the conference and my research experience at KUMC. .
