The Graduation Ceremony for the Medical Postgraduates was held on November 9, 2015 in the Scudder Auditorium. Even though there was heavy rainfall, the ceremony was observed with solemnity and grandeur. The air was filled with gratitude to God for all his blessings and guidance to the Institution and the postgraduates in particular who celebrated the culmination of their hard work and achievements.

The Chief Guest of the occasion was Dr. Abraham George Thomas, Director, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana.

Dr. Thomas is a renowned administrator and a Plastic Surgeon. He has received many awards the most notable being Dr. B.C. Roy Award in "Development of Specialities" category for the year 2002.

The graduation ceremony commenced with the time honoured tradition of the jasmine chain carried by the final year MBBS students, followed by the Postgraduates, Faculty, Chief Guest, Director and Principal. The programme started with a prayer by Rev. Finney Alexander, followed by the College song. The Director, Dr. Sunil Chandy welcomed the graduates and their families and also introduced the chief guest Dr. Abraham Thomas. This was followed by giving the charge to the postgraduates by the Vice Principal (PG) Dr. Joy S. Michael who advised them to strive hard to achieve their goals in a world full of challenges both with self confidence as well as guidance from God. The Principal, Dr. Alfred Job Daniel administered the pledge to the Postgraduates.

Dr. Molly Jacob, Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry has been enrolled as a Member of the National Academy of Sciences of India.

A total of 275 postgraduates were presented their degree by their respective faculty – 156 - broad specialty, 46 - Higher specialty, 43 - post doctoral fellowship, 7 - Postgraduate fellowship, 9 - M.Sc. postgraduates, 2 - MS Bio Engineering and 8 - PhDs. Dr. Abraham Thomas presented postgraduates with Medals and special prizes of excellence.

The ceremony concluded with the singing of the Alma Mater and the National Anthem.

A solemn, dignified and celebratory ceremony marked the Medical Graduation for undergraduates held at Scudder Auditorium on November 16, 2015. The Chief Guest for this august function was Rev. Dr. Valson Thampu, Principal, St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi. The ceremony commenced with the hallowed tradition of the jasmine chain carried by the final year MBBS students and the procession of the faculty and graduates. ScudderAuditorium resonated with the College Song ‘Silver and Blue’ as parents, family and friends proudly joined the graduates on this momentous day. The Director, Dr. Sunil Chandy welcomed and introduced the chief guest, Rev. Dr. Valson Thampu, a well known teacher, preacher, educationist and an important voice for minorities at the national level.

Rev. Dr. Valson Thampu’s address to the graduates was thought provoking and inspiring. He exhorted the young graduates to choose the path of service instead of the path of ‘acquisition’. "CMC’s founder, Dr. Ida Scudder, did not come to India to become a doctor, she merely responded to the needs of people she met, in the process of challenging stereotypes and norms". Basing his message on CMC’s motto, ‘Not to be ministered unto but to minister’, he said, “Acquisitiveness is the essence of the worldly vision of life. Service is the essence of CMC’s vision of life. If in the five formative years of your life in CMC, you have not been re-oriented from the acquisitive to the service-driven vision of life, you have acquired the label of CMC, but failed to be an integral part of the great Vellore story.” Service, he said, is the most authentic form of self-expression and is the bridge between all of us and our fellow human beings.

The Registrar, Dr. Regi Oommen presented the 66 graduates to the Principal, Dr. Alfred Job Daniel, each of whom was warmly applauded by the audience. The Vice Principal, Dr. Solomon Sathishkumar presented the undergraduate prize winners. The audience rose as one for Dr. Jovin Chris Antony, who was awarded the prestigious Mrs. Mariaviakulam David Memorial Medal for being the best outgoing student - thirty - six medals, prizes and honours marked his outstanding academic performance throughout his MBBS course. Among the awards for the faculty, Dr. Ravikar Ralph was awarded the best research publication of the year by a junior member of the faculty; Dr. Ivan James Prithishkumar was honoured with Drs. Molly and Thomas Bhanu Best Teacher Award; and Dr. R.V. Shaji was awarded the Rev. Fr. Lourdu M. Yeddanapalli Award for the outstanding research done by the faculty.

The prestigious Paul Harrison Award for Meritorious Service in Rural Areas was presented to Drs. Loretta and Premal Das, alumni of the Batch of 1978. This Award, CMC’s highest honour, is presented to an alumnus for significant, steadfast and selfless service, thus living out the motto of the institution, ‘Not to be ministered unto but to minister.’ Drs. Loretta and Premal have spent nearly 3 decades in the service of patients with leprosy, a stigmatizing disease that disproportionately affects the poorest, most marginalized and those that have the least access to health care. With his Paul Harrison Awardee 2015 skill in Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Premal plays a vital role in restoring a measure of dignity to these patients. Dr. Loretta’s specialization as a physician enables her to treat both the leprosy affected and other patients and their complications. She has also developed protocols and courses that train and build the capacity of public and private health personnel. They have worked tirelessly at TLM Hospital Naini, Uttar Pradesh, where their workload is heavy, challenging, yet gratifying, for in ministering to others, their very souls have been satisfied.

In his charge to the graduates and postgraduates, the Principal, Dr. Alfred Job Daniel reminded them that ours is a calling and a vocation.’Let everything that you do be out of true love and concern for your fellow human beings’, he said. Mr. Joshua Christudoss, President of the Student’s Association, felicitated the graduating Batch of 2010. Dr. Naveen Thomas Kuriakose responded on behalf of the graduating class, thanking the many people - parents, families, faculty, friends and the student community - for their presence along this part of their journey of life. The graduation ceremony concluded with the song Alma Mater and the National Anthem.

College Day was celebrated on November 14, 2015 with a host of events.

The Thanksgiving Service was conducted by the final year MBBS students in the College Chapel and Dr. Prabhu Premkumar, Professor of Vascular Surgery, was the speaker for this service. This was followed by the Flag Hoisting by Dr. Philip Joseph, Professor of HPB Jasmine Chain Surgery. Dr. Vinoo Mathew Cherian, Professor of Orthopaedics was the guest of honour for the tree planting ceremony, in Elim Garden adjacent to Senate Hall. Dr. John C. Muthusami, Professor of Surgery pinned the crest on the final year students. Certificates of Honour were presented to the medical students, as well as to Alumni for stead fast service in mission hospitals. College Day ended fittingly with the staging of the classic, Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Importance of being Earnest’directed by Dr. Abhinav Chichra. The Baccalaureate Service, held on November 15, 2015, was a time for the graduating class of 2010 to express their gratitude to God for His many mercies and blessings over the past five years. Dr. Solomon Sathishkumar, Professor of Physiology was the speaker on this occasion.

WOUND MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP The Departments of Continuing Nursing Education and Surgical Nursing, College of Nursing organized a workshop on Wound Management which was held on November 9 and 10, 2015 at the College of Nursing. Dr. Punitha Ezhilarasu, Professor and Head of Surgical Nursing and CNE and Research was the organizing chairperson of the workshop. Fifty delegates from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Meghalaya and West Bengal participated in the Workshop. Medical and Nursing faculty from CMC, Vellore were the resource personnel.

The sessions included theory and skills related to wound healing and stoma care in the form of lecture, discussion, quiz, role play, panel discussion, symposium, skill stations, patient sharing and display of wound products by Coloplast and Smith and Nephew. The skill stations focused on essential surgical skills such as surgical dressing, stoma care, wound assessment, bandaging, and negative pressure dressing. Sessions were extensive and interactive.

The Workshop was accredited by Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council and was awarded 15 credit hours.

CHILDREN'S D AY CELEBRA TIONS DA CELEBRATIONS This year Children's Day was celebrated with enthusiasm by the children attending OPD on November 14, 2015. More than 250 children along with their parents enjoyed the colourful balloons and tasty cake. The opening prayer was offered by Ms. Mary P. Watson, Manager OPD Service followed by a meaningful message by Rev. Paul Ravi Kumar for the Children's Day event.

A special thanks to all the staff, children and parents who made this a joyous occasion.
