Selvaraj, Assistant Professor, Vascular Surgery, was elected South Zone Representative to the Executive Committee of the Vascular Society of India for a two-year term. Dr. Prathap Tharyan, Professor, Psychiatry Unit-II, was nominated to be a member in an Advisory Group to guide and make recommendations to the Department of Health Research under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, for developing a suitable framework for setting up the Medical Technology Assessment Board (MTAB). Dr. Molly Jacob, Professor and Head, Biochemistry, was enrolled as Member of the National Academy of Sciences of India. Dr. Jagadish R., Postgraduate Registrar, Biochemistry, received the Best Presenter Award for his work titled “Serum hepcidin levels in patients with ulcerative colitis - do they correlate with anaemia and / or inflammation?”, at the 23rd National Conference of Association of Medical Biochemists of India (AMBICON-2015). Dr. D.J. Christopher, Professor and Head, Pulmonary Medicine, was elected chair of the Indo-US Action Protocol at the Regional Prospective Observational Research in Tuberculosis (RePORT) consortium. Dr. T. Balamugesh, Professor, Pulmonary Medicine, was elected Chair of Clinical Epidemiological Working Group of the (RePORT) consortium. Dr. Basil Manayalil, Postgraduate Registrar, Anaesthesia, won the best oral presentation award for the paper titled “The Importance of neck circumference to thyromental distance ratio as a predictor of difficult intubation among obese patients” at the National Conference on Difficult Airway. Dr. Niranjana Sreedevi, PG, Geriatrics, won the 1st prize for platform presentation at the
13th National Conference of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics (GERICON 2015). Dr. Siddhartha N. Chakravarthy, Assistant Professor, Endocrine Surgery, won the Prof. S. Vittal Best Paper Award for the paper “Ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration cytology in palpable thyroid nodules (>1cm) in adults” at the 75th Annual Conference of Association Surgeons of India. Dr. Rajeshwari Basavana won the 2nd prize for Oral Presentation, for the work titled “Serological characterisation of autoantibodies in autoimmune haemolytic anaemia and its implications.” Dr. Sunil Holla, Professor, Anatomy, was invited by the Elsevier Health Solutions to be one of the authors of the Indian Adaptation of the 3rd Edition of “Gray’s Anatomy for Students” by Drake, Vogl and Mitchell. Dr. Chellam P. Kirubakaran, former Professor and Head, Paediatrics, won the International Health Care Award – 2016 at the conference of the International Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology Transplant and Nutrition. Dr. Debasis Das Adhikary, Associate Professor, Paediatric Emergency Medicine, was appointed National Secretary of Academic Council by the Society for Trauma and Emergency Paediatrics. Dr. Saumya Sara Sunny, PG Registrar, Nuclear Medicine, won the Best Paper in Nuclear Medicine-Thyroidology at the Society of Nuclear MedicineIndia Conference 2015. Dr. Riddhi Das Gupta, Assistant Professor, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, won the Best Thesis Award in Endocrinology at the AV Gandhi National Competition. The work titled “Non-typhoidal Salmonella urinary tract infection: molecular resistance and clinical correlation -A four year study from a tertiary care centre” by Drs. Rani Diana Sahni, Beula Subashini, V. Balaji, Divya Prabha, Yamuna Devi, Antony Devasia, Thambu David Sudarsanam - Departments of Clinical Microbiology, Urology and Medicine, which was presented by Dr. Beula Subhashini at the 17th International Congress of Infectious Diseases, was awarded the Wellcome trust / DBT India Alliance Award. Dr. Sunil Chandy, at the 2nd National Conference of the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisation (CAHO) made a presentation on “Affordable Quality Care”. At this conference, Ms. Lallu Joseph received the Young Quality Achiever Award and Dr. Winsley Rose’s presentation on “Reduction of waiting time in Pharmacy dispensaries” won the 2nd prize for the Best Paper Presentation.
