he 2016 South Zone Conference of the Association of Clinical Biochemists was organised by Dr. Victoria Job and team, Department of Clinical Biochemistry, on 23 rd and 24 th September, 2016. It was attended mainly by biochemists, laboratory managers and postgraduate students. The topics of discussion were Total Quality Management of Laboratories and Clinical Usefulness of Serum Tumour Markers; Lean and Six Sigma, Accreditation process, Internal QC, Competency Assessment and Risk Management.
The key note address on Evolution of EQAS was delivered by Dr. A.S. Kanagasabapathy. Special guest from National Accreditation Board for Testing Laboratories, Dr. Vandana Jain emphasised CMC’s role in promoting quality. The second day began with an overview of Clinical utility of Serum Markers in various malignancies of Lung, Breast, Thyroid, Ovary, Cervix, Prostate. Markers in multiple myeloma, neuroendocrine tumours and Interferences in these assays were dealt with.

Themed ‘Competent Care
