Dr. Joseph Kuruvilla, Selection Grade Senior Lecturer in Psychology, College of Nursing retired on December 6, 2015 after 32 years of dedicated service to this institution. Dr. Joseph Kuruvilla hails from a devout Christian family in Trivandrum. His parents were missionaries in the Salvation Army and he was the youngest of seven in his home. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Kerala and joined this institution as a Junior Lecturer in psychology at College of Nursing in the year 1983 and has continued to teach psychology diligently for the nursing students until his superannuation. He had excelled in his studies as an undergraduate and postgraduate psychology student. Dr. Kuruvilla completed his Ph.D in the year 1992 and M.Phil in Hospital and Health Systems Management from BITS, Pilani in 1999. Dr. Joseph Kuruvilla taught psychology for the B.Sc., Diploma, P.B.BSc. and M.Sc. Nursing students. He had excellent teaching skills and the students enjoyed his classes immensely. He was a strict disciplinarian, straight forward and open with his students and his colleagues. He was God fearing and kept Christ at the center of his life. He had genuine interest in the welfare of his students and took interest to introduce the Christian values to the students as he taught the subject. He taught psychology for the paramedical students also for 14 years. Dr. Kuruvilla’s teaching expertise and experience further extended to taking classes on “Health Insurance” for BMRSc. and M.Phil in Hospital and Health Systems students from within and outside our institution. Apart from teaching psychology Dr. Joseph Kuruvilla has worked as a Deputy Registrar and Registrar of College of Nursing from 1992 to 1997. He also served as one of the editors for the Indian Journal of Continuing Nursing Education published by College of Nursing, CMC Vellore. He has been part of many committees in the College of Nursing and has taken leadership roles in planning and executing various activities and event.
