It’s been five years since we started and two since we became the longest-running indoor Kidpreneur Market! To celebrate, I’m revealing the Kidpreneur Weekly, a weekly digital letter with tips, challenges, and ways to win even more with VKZ!

What started as a small section of our bustling resource fairs has become one of the most rewarding parts of Vegas Kids Zone

Since I started working with kids in 2019, I’ve watched dozens of kids come through our VKZ Kidpreneur program The first-timers come in nervous and the OG kids help calm their nerves and even pump up their table displays

They start with a simple idea, like maybe selling stickers or slime or bracelets. But, after even the first market, something shifts They begin to speak more confidently They start thinking about how to talk to customers, how to price their products, and how to manage money.

We now have more than 150 kids who have signed up to be part of one of our indoor markets. I created the VKZ Kidpreneur Weekly to answer questions, offer ideas and connect us in our pursuit of building our skills

Each week, they get simple tips, fun challenges, and ways to grow Parents have told me how surprised they are by the independence and pride their kids gain from Kidpreneur Markets that are available every weekend all around town

This month’s challenge is to create a catchy slogan or tagline for their businesses and kids who submit one will be entered to win a $5 gift card at our next market

If you’ve got a kid with a spark of an idea, I truly encourage you to give it a try

Soul Talks with Heather Criswell

Every family moment holds wisdom if we pause and listen. Heather Criswell, award-winning author of “How to Raise a Happy Child (and be happy too)” and “Wise Talk from the Other Side,” brings real-life stories, scripts, and heartfelt insights to help parents and families thrive, not just survive. Her signature approach blends compassion, humor, and everyday parenting moments into life-changing lessons.

"I Don't Want to Talk About It": The

Power of Sitting Still

When my daughter came home silent and angry after a rough day, I could have jumped in with solutions Instead, I sat quietly beside her. After a long pause, she whispered, "I feel like no one gets me "

I shared a story about a time I felt the same. "One day," I told her, "I didn't want anyone's advice. I just wanted someone to sit with me. So, I'm here. No advice. Just me." After a few deep breaths, she opened up

That's when I realized communication isn't always about talking. Sometimes, it's about being present, listening without fixing.

We live in a world full of noise. But our kids? They're craving resonance. Stillness. Safety. When we slow down enough to offer that, everything shifts. The tantrum becomes a truth The silence becomes sacred And that moment of "nothing" becomes everything.

If this resonates with your heart (or your home), “How to Raise a Happy Child (and be happy too)” is your next read. It's not a parenting manual it's a conversation, one that might just change everything.

Bridal Skincare Tips for a G lowing Wedding Day

A consistent skincare routine, smart planning, and the right treatments can make all the difference We asked skincare expert AJ Ruhr, owner of DNAesthetics, to share her top tips for glowing, photo-ready skin before you say "I do."

“Establish a routine and stick to it morning and night Consistency is key,” she said. AJ recommends monthly or bimonthly facials leading up to the big day and emphasizes hydration, exercise, low stress, and sun protection for radiantskin

“Skip peels or anything invasive right before your wedding,” she adds. “A peel three months out, a light one two months out, and a hydrating facial a couple of weeks before is ideal.”

She offers customizable 3-, 6-, or 9month bridal facial packages, starting at $375, tailored to each bride’s unique skin goals

Power of Listening

Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued.

When we pause to truly listen, we give our kids more than attention We give them affirmation, safety, and trust

Being heard builds confidence and emotional resilience.

This summer, make time for simple check-ins Ask openended questions like, "What was your favorite part of today?" or "Is anything on your mind?"

Put devices down, maintain eye contact, and stay curious.

Listening isn't about fixing. It's about showing up. When we create space for honest conversations, we nurture strong, healthy connections that last a lifetime.

What makes a good friend is someone who can support you, love you (platonically), kind, and and be with you in your low and highs. Tamera, 10

Liam, age 10:

Just because we’re little doesn’t mean we’re not stressed. School, friends, sports, it’s a lot sometimes

Zander M., age 12:

Sometimes kids can be going through hard things, like actually hard things. It can be hard to talk to adults, and easier to talk to friends.

L, 9

Sophie, age 11:

I wish adults understood that tech isn't just for fun. We use it to learn, talk to friends, and sometimes just escape when life feels too big.

David E , age 9

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the to-do lists, the pickups, the drop-offs, the dishes, the deadlines … that we forget what joy really looks like. Luckily, kids have a way of showing us.

The preschoolers at Primrose School Aliante and Henderson/Green Valley didn’t need big words or big moments to explain happiness they reminded us that joy is often found in blanket forts, lollipops, and hugs that squish your face

Take a read of what makes them happy, in their own sweet, snack-sized words:

My grandparents, mommy, daddy, and sister make me happy – Ryder

When my mom takes me to the park! – Kamryn C

My family makes me happy. – Henry Suckers make me happy – Ariyellah

"Hugging my mom! – Ezra C.

Playing with my grandmother." – Aiden R

My mommy, daddy, and my new baby. – Aliyah

Cookies and chocolate make me happy. – Lydia

When me, mom, and my sister built a fort with paper decorations." –

G

My papa and grandma make me happy. – Zayah

Playing with my friends! – Oliver G

Plan. Connect. Learn.

As a homeschooling mom and longtime educator, I’ve felt the isolation that can come with choosing a nontraditional path.

I’ve been the one staying up too late googling co-ops, sifting through outdated Facebook threads, and wondering if anyone else nearby was also looking for a group nature study, a pottery class, or just a friend to meet at the park.

That’s why I created BaseCampEd a free digital platform designed to help families like mine (and maybe yours) connect, plan, and grow. Whether you homeschool, microschool, unschool, or just want to find enriching opportunities for your kids outside the traditional classroom, BaseCampEd was built with you in mind.

Here’s what it offers:

A way to find and connect with families and educators near you (via zip code, not tracking)

Public and private groups you can join or create based on interest, grade level, or learning style

A shared calendar for easy event planning (goodbye, group-text chaos)

A welcoming, clutter-free space to foster real-world community

It takes a village, and BaseCampEd is here to help you find yours.

Join us for a Virtual Meet & Greet on June 12 at 4 p.m. to explore the app, ask questions, and start building your village. It’s free to use through September 1 at www.basecamped.com.

With its mission to empower families, BaseCampEd is ready to help parents build strong, supportive communities “It takes a village,” Bergstrom says “Let’s build it together!”

Giving Back and Looking Forward

Off the field, Jalen’s all about staying grounded. He volunteers through the Vikings, giving gifts to kids and helping out in the community “Nothing beats seeing the kids smile,” he said.

He’s planning to host his own youth football camp back home in Vegas

“If not this year, for sure next year,” he told me “That’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”

His Message to Young Athletes

When I asked Jalen what advice he’d give to high school players who dream of the NFL, he kept it real: “Get your grades right and just work Nobody has to hand you anything If you want it, you gotta go get it.”

That hit me. Because here’s somebody who’s lived it from youth football to Bishop Gorman to college to the NFL. And now he’s not just playing he’s building something

His Why on Many Fronts

Jalen told me that his proudest moment in college was a game where he had over 200 yards and three touchdowns in the first half His proudest NFL moment so far? Scoring a touchdown against the Packers last season. But he’s still climbing

“I’m just trying to be the best version of me,” he said. “That’s what football and life are about.”

Hearing that, I left our interview inspired Because if Jalen Nailor can go from Vegas fields to NFL stadiums and still stay humble, hungry, and happy, then why not me? Why not any of us?

Turn Your Home into the One You Want

Tips from Kristina Ghiloni, Owner of Rock Solid Remodeling

According to the premier remodeling duo at Rock Solid Remodeling, some of the most cost-effective updates can completely transform a space.

"One of the most impactful things that can be done to transform your home is a fresh coat of paint It’s amazing how a different color can completely change the ambiance of a space," Ghiloni said. "Another option is backsplash tile This is a non-intrusive project, can be done fairly quickly, and gives a fresh feel to any room."

Ghiloni also recommends swapping out old fixtures and hardware for a quick upgrade.

"If you have a dated style or finish color, swapping out faucets, lights, door handles, and cabinet hardware is super simple but is a significant upgrade," she said

Maximizing Your Budget

Homeowners can also maximize their budget by exploring materials that mimic higher-end products.

"Get familiar with different types of products," Ghiloni, said. "For example, porcelain tiles that look like marble or luxury vinyl-plank flooring that appears to be hardwood can give you the high-end look for a fraction of the price"

To incorporate these trends without a full remodel, consider using bold color choices or eye-catching locations like accent walls or water closets.

Design Trends for 2025

Ghiloni is seeing a surge in requests for walkin shower "rooms" with no glass enclosures and free-standing tubs

"Limewash paint and wallpaper are also trending right now," she notes "To incorporate these trends without a full remodel, consider using bold color choices or eye-catching locations like accent walls or water closets"

Avoiding Common Mistakes

Ghiloni emphasizes the importance of a solid plan before beginning any project

"The biggest mistake we see is jumping into construction without a clear plan," she says "Before starting, ensure you have a full design, construction schedule, and materials ready Not doing so can cause delays, mismatched finishes, and costly redos."

With Ghiloni’s expert advice, transforming your home into the one you’ve always wanted is well within reach

One of the best things about living in Las Vegas is all the amazing farmers markets These are from the Bruce Trent Park market on Wednesdays.

Mini Mochi LV

Vegas Heat Meets the Coolest Shave Ice.

This is THAT shaved ice stand. The one that makes you forget it’s 100 degrees outside because you’re busy dancing with your cup like it’s a trophy

My go-to flavor? Tiger’s blood with condensed milk You ever had a brain freeze and smiled through it? That’s Mini Mochi LV.

And the people running it? They are super nice and always say, “What’s up,” and will remember your name and favorite flavor.

The farmers markets have given owner Z the opportunity to share her love of shave ice and she’s so thankful for all the support

INGREDIENTS:

• 4 cups cauliflower florets, cut into 1-inch pieces, lightly sprayed with olive oil

• Salt & pepper

• 2/3 cup mayonnaise

• 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

• 1/4 cup chopped dill pickle

• 2 tablespoons dill pickle juice

• 4 celery stalks, chopped

• 2 radishes, chopped

• 1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion

• 1 stalk green onion, chopped

• 4 hard-boiled eggs, chopped (or scrambled see video)

• 3 slices crispy bacon, cooked and crumbled

DIRECTIONS:

1. Roast the Cauliflower: Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Spread cauliflower in a single layer, spray lightly with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and toss. Roast for 30-35 minutes until fork-tender and lightly golden. Let cool

2 Mix the salad: In a large bowl, stir together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, chopped dill pickles, pickle juice, celery, radishes, red onion, and green onion. Gently fold in the cooled, roasted cauliflower and chopped eggs. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper, if needed.

3 Top with bacon and chill: Sprinkle crumbled bacon on top Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld (trust me, it's even better the next day!).

4. Serve and enjoy: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and enjoy within three days.

Surviving BBQ Season

How to Navigate Summer Gatherings with Celiac Disease

“Hey, Heather, are you excited about the BBQ tomorrow?”

“Yeah I can’t wait” But that was a lie I wasactuallydreadingit

Don’t get me wrong: I wanted to see my friends But BBQs and potlucks can be a nightmare for someone with celiac disease!

This serious autoimmune disease causes a person’s immune system to attack their own body when they ingest gluten. Even trace amounts of gluten can lead to a reaction

Something as small as a few stray crumbs getting into gluten-free food is enough to do it

That means that a fun BBQ can feel like a minefield of dangers to people with celiac disease

With a few simple steps, you can make your friends with celiac disease (or food allergies) feel safe and welcomethissummer!

Ask your friends what you can do to makethemfeelsafeandincluded

People with celiac disease don’t want to miss out on the summer fun. We love hanging out with friends and enjoying a great meal together The good news is that, with just a little effort, you can help everyonefeelsafeandincluded!

It can be hard to find good restaurants with worthy gluten-free menus for kids as well as adults. Celiac-friendly restaurants are abundant in Las Vegas andthesurroundingsuburbs

Step Into Fame at Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds is known for its wax figures, lifelike sculptures of real people, celebrities and historical figures both living and deceased. We are taken behind the scenes, where Nicolas Cage, Marylin Monroe and RuPaul wax figures wait to be repaired and touched up

“The Las Vegas Madame Tussauds is the first location to be opened in North America,” said Kristin Mayberry, a former teacher at UNLV who has worked for Madame Tussauds for 26 years. Oil paints (not acrylic or makeup) are used in layers to detail realistic faces The heads are surprisingly the only wax part of the figures. The bodies are usually fiberglass, covered up by clothing, sometimes donated by the person that the wax figure is of.

There are even respective bins and boxes for certain celebrities, like Justin Bieber As for hair, combinations of “real human hair (are) sourced from all around the world,” she said. Hair for the head, eyebrows and beards will have yak hair all individually placed with an “insertion tool. They cut the eye of the needle in half with small wire cutters” she said, noting it’s tiny, shaped like a fishhook. “And that’s what we use to plug in hair, one at a time, into the wax head.”

As for the exhibits themselves, the museum is a who’s who of modern and past legends. Bruce Willis greets you a the door and Tim McGraw stands next to Miley Cyrus sitting on a swinging wrecking ball Bob Marley and Prince beckon guests further into the massive museum Snoop Dogg hangs out with Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls in another, along with figures of Taylor Swift, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Post Malone.

Visitors are allowed to take pictures with figures, and there are interactive activities, like a tattoo parlor, a poker-chip fountain, and a disco booth, right next to Steve Aoki.

Gruesome Beginningsofa LegendaryArtist

Born in 1761, Madame Tussaud (Anna Maria Grosholtz) was raised by a single mother who worked as a housemaid for a doctor. This was inspiring for Madame Tussaud, so she became a wax sculptor. Her first figures were Voltaire, a French philosopher, and Benjamin Franklin

She also made wax figures of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, using their severed heads as molds for the death masks wax figures after the two were executed. The London Madame Tussauds Wax Museum still has these figures and the guillotine that was used to execute the doomed king and queen.

Perceived as a royal sympathizer, Tussaud almost lost her head, but she kept her life by making wax figures of the dead royals.
