TEDx Understanding the Advantages, Adversities and Actionable Advice

peaking on a TEDx stage is on nearly every speaker’s bucket list. However, that wasn’t always the case for me. While I enjoy watching TEDx talks, it was never on my wish list of speaking engagements to secure. So, you can probably imagine how surprised I was when a TEDx producer invited me to speak at his upcoming event. I was grateful for the opportunity and have enjoyed the added credibility to my speaker bio. Are you familiar with the benefits of speaking on a TEDx stage? When I ask this question to speakers, I often receive coinciding responses. Speakers believe landing a TEDx Talk will launch their

Achieve Success Magazine

speaking career, create celebrity, increase their speaker fee, or boost their credibility among meeting planners. While many of these benefits may result from presenting on a TEDx stage, there are more significant benefits many professionals don’t recognize. To dive deeper into those unspoken benefits, we must first uncover the distinction between public relations (PR) and marketing, especially relating to speaking on a TEDx stage. In my opinion, PR creates exposure, while marketing produces revenue. So, is a TEDx Talk PR or marketing?

One Stage, Two Benefits

One of the two core benefits I identified from being a TEDx speaker was publicity. Speaking on a TEDx stage opened new doors for me and my business. There is a pseudo-celebrity and legitimacy to being a TEDx speaker. The second benefit was stepping out of my comfort zone. The opportunity demanded I condense my talk down to the essential elements. The presentation was about my book, How Beaver Saved My Life. My personal story of being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1988 and being told that I would be dead or in a wheelchair within 10 years. 7.

outside your typical vicinity gives you a marketing edge. Refuse to limit yourself to your local boundaries. Apply for events out of your area.

Volunteer

The organizer read the book and wanted to feature my story. The challenge? I have told that story in as much as 30 minutes. Now, I had to do it in 14. I never want to leave an audience with just an inspiring story. My goal is to share tips on how to improve their life or business using the principles from my talk. It ultimately only left me with 7 minutes to share the Beaver story.

So, You Want to Be a TEDx Speaker? Each individual has unique reasons and rewards for becoming a TEDx speaker. If this opportunity is on your bucket list and you are ready to speak on a TEDx stage, I have a few tips to help you save time, money, and unnecessary work.

Base your book on you and your brand This is literally how I was asked to do my TEDx without ever applying. After I wrote my first book, I was surprised at how differently event planners saw me as a speaker. I quickly learned 8.

that it gives you additional credibility. I designed my talks around the idea that I am the subject but not the message. It allows me to write and speak so the listener can apply my message to whatever result they desire.

Tailor your talk around a TEDx theme Regardless of where you are in your speaking career, doing a TEDx is not your finale. Instead, view it as a springboard to new opportunities. By sharing your core message, you are also auditioning for other stages.

Applications are free - don’t pay an audition fee Most TEDx events don’t charge you to apply. Some of my coaching clients have paid up to $500 to audition. You are bringing as much value to the stage as they are by bringing the stage to you.

Look beyond your city limits There is a saying that you become a celebrity 50 miles from where you live. Speaking at an event

If you apply but don’t receive an invitation to speak, ask if you can volunteer. Building relationships is essential. One of my coaching clients recently volunteered and was asked to be one of the anchor speakers at the next event. If you’re not ready to apply but have identified a TEDx that you would like to speak at in the future, you should also consider volunteering first.

Don’t be desperate Desperation pushes opportunities away. Allow presenting on a TEDx stage to be a speech, not the speech.

Optimize the opportunity Create a marketing plan for exposure. Do this before, during, and after the event. One of the biggest mistakes I see speakers make is relying on the event organizer to promote them. You will usually receive the video of your talk along with still pictures. Don’t be modest. Step into your light. So, are you ready to take the short walk to the center of the stage and onto the red circle? If you are, welcome to your next adventure! Achieve Success Magazine

I

t is with great excitement that Achieve Systems will be featuring Global Speaker David Avrin to speak at the upcoming Achieve Conference. We also wanted to do an interview with David for Achieve Success Magazine.

Vanessa So glad we had a chance to meet before the conference David. Our Achieve members are very excited to see you speak.

David Thank you for having me.. It is my treat, my privilege to be hanging out with you this morning.

Vanessa Oh, yay, I’m so excited because we are having you as our keynote speaker for the achieve conference again.

David Looking forward to it. Yeah, looking forward to it.

Vanessa Yeah, we can’t wait to see what you have. For us, as always, you are a treat. So, I want to know a little bit about how you actually got into speaking.

David You know, what I spent a career in marketing and public relations. And I had worked at Children’s Hospital in Denver for a lot of years. And then from there, sort of transitioned to doing some teaching and being asked to come and present and, and to do classes or coursework, or speak to organizations about effective corporate communications. And I came to recognize about 20 years ago, you know, what people actually get paid for this. And so, my Achieve Success Magazine

11.

career really grew from there. So, I actually just got my 20-year pin from the National Speakers Association. But I kind of look at it from the perspective of, of, it’s just another way of teaching, you know, so much of what we do if we’re doing it in front of the room, there’s this classic look at motivational speakers. And I just, I’ve never identified as that I think there’s important things that business owners and entrepreneurs need to learn the things that we do, as we get together to achieve and others to share information, and the serendipity of those unexpected conversations that happened in the hallways. But for me, I’d like to share my content, I spent most of my time talking about marketing and branding, and how do we differentiate ourselves in a very competitive marketplace. But that has shifted a significant amount in recent years, I think part of it is, is because I came to the recognition that as many have now what we say about ourselves, while important, is not nearly as impactful today is what other people say about us. And so, I started embarking on some research a few years back about what is really driving those purchase decisions, what is driving those customers, and those customers coming back. And, and I made a wholesale shift in my business towards customer experience and recognizing that the things that how we interact with people, not just the customer service, I think I think we get that 12.

we’ve been talking about it for 20 years or 40 years, really. But how easy are you to do business with? Do we recognize all the shifts that have happened during COVID and others about how we do business, how we communicate, how we learn about businesses, and how we compare? And so that’s what drove my book, why customers leave and how to win them back

came out a few years ago. And so, I spent the last several years really helping organizations become remarkably easy to do business with.

Vanessa I love that because you know, David, communication is my thing, too. Achieve Success Magazine

important topic. In your opinion, what would you say are some of the biggest mistakes corporations out there make with regards to customer service, customer experience?

David

David Absolutely.

Vanessa I tackle it from the side of confidence in how we show up in our businesses. And I think it all goes together so well. And we know that customer experience is so important. It’s such an Achieve Success Magazine

You know, I think it’s mistakes that everybody’s making, I think, from entrepreneurs, to corporations, to small businesses and others, is that we get so focused on the way we want to do business where we’ve created this customer journey, right? Here’s how people are going to research and look us up or look up competitors, make a decision, reach out, hire us, customize it, pay, deliver whatever that might be that entire journey. And it works, right. It’s profitable, we’ve learned from others. And where it doesn’t work, we tweak it. And it doesn’t matter what’s happening. And sort of this is a path that works. And when our customers tried to circumvent that, or tried to ask for something special, or something custom or don’t want to wait on hold, we get frustrated because they don’t want to do it our way. Here’s the problem. We have this great customer journey. Our customers have never read our employee manual. They don’t know how they’re supposed to do it. They just know how they want to do it. And so, to your question, Vanessa, I think the biggest mistake is that we get really locked into a process and a system that we want to employ that we want our customers to

follow. And the smart companies today are recognizing that, that today’s customers and clients are expecting an extraordinary level of flexibility and customization and we certainly saw that during COVID this rash of new products and services, these phenomenal conveniences. I mean, my God, I get my, my groceries delivered. And it’s awesome. It’s awesome you know, I mean, there was there was a day we had a day was a remarkable day, about two weeks ago was a Thursday, where we actually had nothing delivered to the house, it was almost jarring I had, I was in a cold sweat, just because why hasn’t Amazon arrived at my house? But the reality is, we’ve changed all of us. We’re all consumers, right? No matter where we are, for business owners or entrepreneurs, we’re all consumers. And we have gotten used to an extraordinary level of, of, of, of convenience, and flexibility. And to back to your question, I think the challenge we have is that we’re kind of locked into how we want to do it. And the smart companies are really watching what others and finding ways to align how we do business with how our customers want to buy.

Vanessa Right, right. Well, great answer. And I know Yes, with COVID, convenience has definitely become a thing. Amongst others. I know, being able to teach, a lot of my stuff in my classes from home has been super convenient. 13.

However, you know, that person to person relations, it’s so important stuff. And I think people tend to forget that too. With that said, I have another question for you. You were mentioning how things have changed during COVID. As a speaker, what would you say has been the biggest challenges you’ve been facing post COVID?

David Um, you know, what, there really aren’t significant challenges post COVID. It was during COVID. Right? It was it was the flexibility it was the shift. And when you have somebody who makes their living traveling on airplanes to live events and, and live events and going on airplanes went away, we pivoted right, we use the P word. And we shifted to two virtual presentations. And in many cases, here’s the dichotomy. On one hand, this is remarkable look at you and I, we are in different places, we’re talking real time face to face, others have the opportunity to listen in and watch. It’s amazing for my parents, this is science fiction. For you and me, it’s Thursday. It’s remarkable. However, I think one of the big learnings during COVID Was that virtual presentations multi day are really difficult. It’s difficult for the audience, it’s difficult for the presenter, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t a role for it. It doesn’t mean that there is no role for hybrid, but do I think the future is virtual, I don’t. And that’s not just being self-serving. 14.

T

here are six to 800 conferences going on every single day. There’s more than enough work for speakers. I think speakers get hung up on a couple of things now Number one, is they get caught up on in the mechanics of it.

I think multiday four- or five-day conferences are horrible. They’re agonizing. People are sitting there, you know, turning off their cameras or throwing a tennis ball against the wall. It’s horrible for everyone. But I do think there’s a part I do think there’s a role, it allows us from an interpersonal perspective, you had mentioned that, to reach out more often. If

we are not physically in proximity. If we’re not in the same city, it’s a wonderful opportunity to have more contact, but it doesn’t replace the importance of the face to face. And so, coming out of COVID I think in many ways, we’ve realized what doesn’t work, right, the Jetsons future and that everything’s gonna be virtual, I don’t buy it. I think there will Achieve Success Magazine

be an element of it. I but I think coming out of it, I think we’re in a wonderful place of opportunity. Wonderful for entrepreneurs, there’s more ways to reach out there’s more ways to connect. There are more examples of, of ways for us to differentiate our business from others as well. I think the future is incredibly bright for those who recognize Achieve Success Magazine

the changes in the shifts and are adapting to them. The ones who are resistant are going to find themselves the next Toys R Us or blockbuster, right?

Vanessa So, it is always about awareness. Right?

David Awareness and action.

Vanessa Right. awareness and action. I love that. Yes. Big, big words. David, you know, you are an expert at customer experience. But you’re also an expert speaker. You’ve been doing this for a 15.

T

here’s a lot of inspiring people in the world. But the best inspiring people actually equip people to make a living and to support their families

very, very long time. And as you might know, you know, we just launched our achieve Speaker pro division. And so yeah, we’re super excited about bringing speakers in helping them grow, helping them grow their businesses as speakers, helping them create revenue from speaking. Do you have any tips for new up and coming speakers? What advice could you give them?

David Well, absolutely. I think there’s 16.

great opportunity. And I think that the marketplace has so many opportunities for speakers on any day in Las Vegas. There are six to 800 conferences going on every single day. There’s more than enough work for speakers. I think speakers get hung up on a couple of things now Number one, is they get caught up on in the mechanics of it. And then they can’t think somebody will say I took a three-day workshop on hand gestures, and I can’t get the phone during I’m like, are

you kidding me? Who cares what your hands are doing? People get so worked up on speaker coaching, and they have to be perfect and don’t just wander and move to it. It’s garbage. You know what great speakers’ great speakers or teachers aren’t, great speakers are passionate about their subject. And they teach it to others as well. Now, that’s the first one is they get hung up on the mechanics. And number two, this is the biggest problem for speakers. But it’s also the biggest Achieve Success Magazine

opportunity. We have a really interesting profession. We’re the only profession that I can think of where most people got into the profession of speaking, because they were encouraged by somebody who had no idea what the profession of speaking was, right there like, Oh, my God, that’s an amazing story, the way you survived cancer, you climb that mountain, you should be a motivational speaker, he should tell people No, I think you should feed your family. Now, passion is not unimportant, but nobody pays you for your passion. Nobody pays you for you to have a cathartic experience, living your life’s mission of touching lives. But they will pay for you to use your passion and experience to solve a problem that they have. Vanessa, this is the biggest challenge and misperception on the part of speakers. They think if they have passion in their heart, and they want to change lives, they can make a living and people will pay them, they don’t pay them for that. They pay them to solve their problems. Now, your passion, your story, your unique experience, gives you the right to speak, it gives you the right to stand on that stage. But people write a check for you to use that passion and experience to help them increase their sales, develop their leaders increase their emotional intelligence, right. And it’s tragic how many amazing people and amazing speakers starve or leave the profession within one to two years because Achieve Success Magazine

they’re starving, because nobody has told him that truth. And it’s not about the passion. It’s using the passion to help others that are willing to pay.

Vanessa Fantastic advice, David, thank you. So, I’m going to shift gears a little bit here. I know you have a little bit of a history with our CEO, Robert Raymond, you want to share a little bit about that. I don’t know

David Robert and I went to college together. As a matter of fact, he was a fraternity brother of my younger brother. And it’s been wonderful watching such a good man grow over the years, I’ve known, and I always knew him as Bobby and Bobby Ramen to the core from the time when he was a teenager has been a really good man, and to be able to watch him and to support him. In growing along with you and his tribe. This important mission of building businesses has been incredibly gratifying. I sound almost paternal in my in my in my pride and affection for my friend Bobby and what he has done because he is the same good man, he’s just a good man who knows a lot more today and watching the amount of people in the lives that that the both of you have impacted together and continue to do so. There’s a lot of inspiring people in the world. But the best inspiring people actually equip people to make a living and to support

their families and to support the people that they support as healthcare practitioners and others as well. So, I have a wonderful background with him, and we look at each other know we go, how did we get old? When did this happen? This beard used to be really black and now it’s white, but I’m actually impressed and proud of both of you and have great affection.

Vanessa Well, thank you David. And we’re so happy to be able to call you friend I’m happy to be able to call. Um, you and Laurel friends you know it’s been just such a wonderful journey.

David And the journey continues. That’s the best part.

Vanessa It does. Last but not least, a little birdie told me that you have some amazing projects that you’re working on. I don’t know if you wanted to maybe share a little bit about

David I know that I have not yet shared it, but I have in smaller circles. I’m in a really great place in my life. As my wife and I are new empty nesters five kids grown and gone it doesn’t mean they’re off the payroll but at least they’re out of the house. And we’ve put a lot of thought into our third act. How do we make sure that we have a compelling and impactful and 17.

for fulfilling third act, you know, many years ago people would retire, and they’d be, they’d be dead within five or six years? Well, now we live 20, 30 years beyond. And so, we devote so much of our time and attention to raising a family and to our children and our careers. And it’s nice to be able to look and say, what do we get to do now with our time, and so many years back, I lead CEO roundtable groups for an organization called Vistage, I’ve spoken to over 500 CEO roundtable groups over the last 12 years, in multiple countries around the world, I’ve presented in 24 countries, on six continents around the world. And I’m in the process of forming an organization called the legacy board. And the legacy board is for former CEOs to connect once a month and talk about their finances and talk about legacy and impact and mentoring. And, and gather with other highlevel leaders who are no longer running their organization, but still have a little fuel in the tank, and they’re not done. And so, I’m pretty excited. I’m actually in the process of launching groups in multiple states. And I see this as my third act. I’m always gonna speak, I love what I do. But to be able to be in that room every month with a group of people talking about what’s really important. How do we leave a legacy and continue to make an impact is one of the most exciting things I’ve done in my career? So, stay tuned and watch it grow. 18.

And if anybody’s interested, you could see what we’re doing at Vallegacyboard.com. So, you know, it’s about a rich and fulfilling life. And I like playing my part in helping to equip and inspire just as you and Robert do through Achieve.

Vanessa Well, thank you so much, David. I think that’s a wonderful note to end on here. However, one more question, you were saying how you’ve, you know, you’ve really traveled the world.

David Very fortunate, very fortunate.

Vanessa 1000s of people, what is the favorite destination for you?

David You know, I am really blessed to be able to travel, my mom passed away at 69 years old and never owned a passport. Most Americans don’t have a passport. So, I’m very fortunate to be able to travel pretty extensively as well, as I turn off my phone, because that’s the reality today, phones ring as well. We’re not going to transcribe that part of it. I love I love Dubai. I love Singapore. You know, I love architecture. And so, I love the contrast between the old and the ancient and the new. And what’s interesting about Dubai is there is no old, it didn’t exist, you know, in any major shape 20 years ago. So, every building is competing to be the most iconic

architectural structure. And you just go there with your mouth open and your eyes wide. And, and it’s in its international and the food and I eat, and I have eaten my way across the world. And because I am the visiting speaker, they treat me like royalty everywhere I go in the world, you know, at home, my wife’s like, hey, big deal, go take out the trash. But I go to I go to Johannesburg or Singapore or Mumbai or Delhi or Abu Dhabi. And they think I’m some kind of celebrity and so they’re taking me to feasts and they’re picking me up in nice cars. And I just laugh, and my kids are like, Dad, they think you’re important. I’m like, I think I’ve got him suckered. I don’t know. But yeah, I’m really, really blessed to be able to do international travel. And I’m excited now that COVID is over that all of that is opening up again.

Vanessa We can get back to it right. Well, thank you David. And we are super excited to see you at the conference in June

David Thank you, as am I. if you want to learn more about me, look me up DavidAverin.com and we will see you in June

Vanessa fantastic. Thanks, David.

David Thank you.

Get Started with Crypto Now… Or Get Left Behind! By Charlie Stivers

Y

ou know how you hear stories of Bitcoin millionaires getting in early? Well, you have that opportunity. You are still early! Think of how many people you know who still have not invested in the crypto market—now think globally! The total cryptocurrency market capitalization is still under $2 Trillion. To put that in perspective, the largest market, foreign exchange currency (FOREX) trades about $6 trillion daily, global equities exceed $100 trillion, and global real estate exceeds $300 trillion in value. What do think will happen when Achieve Success Magazine

there is a transfer of wealth from those sectors to cryptocurrency? My name is Charlie Stivers, and I know I can help you get started in your crypto journey safely and confidently to potentially make life-changing profits. As a previous financial professional for 17 years, I got serious about crypto at the beginning of COVID lockdowns in March 2020 and bought my first Bitcoin and Ethereum. I focused and hired a mentor to learn from their mistakes and successes. I also invested my capital and my free time to learning and participating in everything crypto. I have made a bunch and lost some, too.

I quickly discovered chasing the next 10X or 100X coin is very challenging and time consuming. Then I came across DeFi, or Decentralized Finance, and the chance to earn daily passive income. This has been a life changing experience for me, and I can show you how, too. Cryptocurrency is an exciting sector full of ups and downs, endless risks, and potentially exponential rewards. It’s a diverse, global market attracting new users every day. The crypto market is growing at twice the growth rate of the Internet in the 21.

90’s and 2000’s. At the time of this writing of May 2022, many coins are on sale approximately 50% lower than all-time highs Now is your chance to seize the opportunity that cryptocurrency and digital assets give you. The number one question asked, “What gives crypto its value?” is simply put—Massive networks of users create cryptocurrency value. Just like Google or Facebook, their foundational value comes from its user base. In the decentralized, digital economy, the difference is we, the users, are the ones getting rewarded, not centralized corporations driven to increase profits for its shareholders. Blockchain is attracting businesses and governments as financial technology (FinTech) and data scalability evolve. Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs) are allowing artists to finally get paid for their talent, and corporations are adopting NFTs for marketing to extend their brand. The metaverse will wrap these all together in a user experience (UX) where people will use it daily. This will create more utility for users and the huge transfer of wealth over the coming years which is all part of what many call, Web3 or the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR). Opportunities of growth in networks are something you can

22.

profit from and get life changing results. Being an early investor on the cutting edge of future technologies is where people make the biggest profits. Investing while assets are at a deep discount is another strategy that creates enormous wealth.

Get Started in Crypto or Get Left Behind!

We all face different financial challenges. Now imagine the US Dollar becoming more unstable and savers fearing its continued loss of value? This was and is the reality for people living in emerging, third world countries. People, and now governments, were forced to search for alternatives to their unstable currency. Bitcoin and other digital assets have been an important solution for millions to continue to conduct commerce with some normalcy.

There are many narratives and reasons you should start diversifying to digital assets. Making money is almost the default if you do it the right way, spend hours researching, and avoid the mistakes.

There are movements throughout history where we have seen the creation of millionaires and enormous wealth. The decentralized movement within new networks are filled with people like us. This user base will create mass adoption of digital assets. This is our chance, as people, to take back control and earn true freedom that we desire and deserve. I truly want this to be your wakeup call—It is time to begin your journey into digital assets.

The decentralized movement is not just about the money and the chance for enormous profits. It is truly about an opportunity for freedom and self-reliance.

The challenge is—there is so much info out there. It’s overwhelming! Did you know there are over 19,000 different coins and tokens now? Over 10’s of thousands of NFTs? Doesn’t it make sense that, just like in the real business world, 90% of these crypto projects will fail? Understand this risk versus reward concept—asymmetric returns. The upside potential is far greater than the downside risk. If you took the risk and invested $500-1000 in one project and lost it all, you would be able to pay your bills. Yes, it would be awful to lose it; on the other hand, if it 10X’ed or 100X’ed your investment you would be

Achieve Success Magazine

o you have a message you want to share with the world? Perhaps you are considering becoming a public speaker, or you might have spoken in the past and are ready to take it to the next level. When you initially decided to become a public speaker, did you think about how it would elevate and propel your business? If you didn’t, you are not alone. Many aspiring speakers attempt to break into the industry without considering the business aspects of the endeavor.

2007 and have been tweaking my strategy ever since. I was fortunate enough to have a savvy speaking coach who was a highly paid and respected speaker. She also created fantastic events. She had me build my first workshop within six weeks of working with her. It sold out, and I made $32,000 that day. I made enough money to qualify for the Certified Speaking Professional designation from National Speakers Association. As a bonus, I was able to pay for my daughter’s college tuition with that single workshop.

I fell into public speaking in

all approach when it comes to the speaking world. The speaking business has evolved as technology and consumers have evolved. In addition to speaking, I am an event planner and book speakers for corporate events and my annual SmartFem Success Summit. I have learned many valuable lessons along the way. I see so many emerging speakers

26.

give up after a year or two due to lack of income. After speaking to several of them, I learned that they never understood how to build a speaking business. Going from gig to gig is a recipe for disaster. Standing on the stage to deliver a speech is only part of the equation, not the entire formula. The speaking industry is a business. It requires a business

plan and marketing strategy like any other venture. I recently partnered with my friend and fellow speaker Gary Barnes to launch Speaker Mastery Bootcamp, a three-day, handson event and one of the most comprehensive speaker training programs for the price. It is a speaker business in a box and covers everything from beginning to end. We offer and deliver more.

Achieve Success Magazine

You will never get a second chance to make a great first impression, especially in the speaking industry. Gary and I wanted to give emerging speakers a chance to take the stage, and the Bootcamp allowed us to show them the ropes. The course helped attendees build a sustainable speaking business. We addressed the elephant in the room early on. That’s right, money. Speaking is not a business if you can’t monetize it. Gary and I have leveraged stages to amplify our voices and showcase our expertise to garner more business. It’s a fundamental subject many coaching programs fail to address. Co-facilitating that workshop was one of the highlights of the year for me. Gary and I have spoken on each other’s stages but hadn’t collaborated before. It was nice for guests to see our differences and how we came together and pooled our resources and intellectual properties. Attendees couldn’t believe our chemistry or that it was our first event together. While participants were shocked, I always knew it would be 28.

AUTHORITY POSITIONING

For High Performance Leadership

H

ave you ever wondered why some people are so driven and focused? So dedicated? Maybe even a bit obsessed with what they do? There is often a story behind all that effort. You may say, “But everyone has a story!”. That may be true, but not everyone uses his or her story as a driving force, and certainly not everyone leverages the story in authority positioning. Imagine a young girl coming to this country as a 13 year-old refugee without her parents.

Spoke little English. Clueless about the culture. Scared of discrimination. That little girl was me. I escaped from Communist Viet Nam with my aunt and survived 7 days on a tiny fishing boat at sea before we got to a Malaysian refugee camp. We lived in makeshift shelters with limited food, water, and electricity for several months. When I finally came to this country, my only luggage was Hope and Faith. The mental image I brought with me was my dad standing by a

bridge with tears of love during our quick goodbye hug. The money our extended family got was only enough to allow my aunt, her two kids, my brother, and me to escape. So from the moment I arrived at this land of opportunity, I understood that it was my duty not to let my extended family down. That personal story pushed me to learn, strive, and develop life strategies that helped me become the high performance leader today. CLARITY As refugees, we were starting from the bottom, and there was only one way to go: up. I started setting goals and focused on achieving them. I knew education was my way out, so I studied hard,

skipped parties, and graduated magna cum laude with a BS in 3 years. I went on to finish my DDS/MS degrees in four years at UCLA. My goals were to finish early and start working to help the extended family left behind in Viet Nam. It was easy to say “no” to anything not contributing to those goals. Almost 30 years later, the same clarity helped me run multiple businesses, from multi-specialty dental group practices to international speaking, professional coaching and consulting, to raising three children, and still being able to take time for myself, writing several books to inspire and share business strategies with

others. When you are clear with your goals and values, you can be very intentional in your thoughts and action and be able to achieve great results. A great leader will always have clear vision in order to inspire and motivate others to succeed. Starting today, you can set daily goals with measurable results, focusing only on the activities that will help you achieve those goals. PRODUCTIVITY Productivity is all about attention management. People complain about being “overwhelmed.” In reality, they say “yes” to too many things instead

of focusing on revenue-driven activities. This is why people finish long To-Do lists and yet have not increased net income. Productivity also means setting up the schedule for success. Attending an event to “meet people” is better when you come back with 5 appointments set up to go. Writing a blog, completing a book chapter, or doing live videos will easily be accomplished if they are on your calendar. One thing that tends to stress us out is trying to live up to the expectations of others. Do you have to be that soccer mom who drives kids around in the afternoon several times a month? Does your house need to be impeccably clean or would it be okay to play board games with kids in a messy family room? Is it more important to show up to social get togethers rather than showing up for yourself, whether it be in the gym or for a beach retreat? When you start examining your attention and your focus based

on the results you desire, you will see the most important activities that deserve your time and dedicate your energy to work on those only. INFLUENCE A big part of being a successful leader is standing out and persuading others to follow. One way to immediately position yourself as an authority figure is to be on stage. You may say, “But Emily, who am I to be on stage? I’m just a…”. And yes, you sound exactly like many of my clients. In reality, with the help of a coach, you will realize that you have the knowledge to share, the desire to help, and a bit of courage to help you step out of your comfort zone. Becoming an authority starts with a story, possibly written into a book and broadcasted on multiple media platforms.

She even hosts her own seminar series called ACTION To WIN and has leveraged that to trade more stages. As an authority figure with action and proven results, she has been featured on multiple platforms including Forbes, medium, Yahoo!Finance, USA Today, and FOX. 6 Secrets

to Magnetizing Your Audience You walk into the room and all eyes are on you. You’re standing tall, have a smile on your face and everyone is intently listening to what you have to say... and then you wake up. The ability to make heads turn is something most of us have fantasized about, but in reality, how many of us can actually command a room? Why is it that when certain people walk into a room you can’t help but notice them right away? You just have to look … and stare. Is it his good looks or his Armani suit? Maybe it was her Prada shoes or her Versace dress? I guarantee you it has very little to do with the clothes he is wearing or her shoes… We get brainwashed into believing that these people are just born like that – with that stunning flair and magnetic presence. That “It” factor that is the illusive something we can’t quite put our finger on. Most celebrities have it; most successful people have it…

The thing is that you also have the ability to be noticed and to make an astonishing first impression. Don’t think you need to be born with it or that it is only reserved for the rich and the famous. Believe me… the majority of people that has this “presence” and radiate irresistible magnetism is very aware of it and constantly 36.

works at it. In business - the more we can raise our awareness of how we SHOW UP, the better our chances of being successful at magnetizing our ideal clients. We are vibrational beings and we transmit waves of energy all the

time. Some of us project energy at higher frequencies than others. These are the vibrations that people pick up and notice about you within the first few moments of meeting you. Before you have even had an opportunity to say something, the chances are good that the other person already made some sort of assessment Achieve Success Magazine

about you. He or she already got a first impression within seconds of seeing you. Take a moment and really think about the impression you would like to leave in the minds of those prospects and clients you interact with every day! I would venture to say that the principals I am about to share with you can apply to stepping on stage, walking into a networking event or a job interview and even how you present yourself on a video-call or even on the phone while working with clients and handling your sales calls. Elevating your magnetic presence is about consciously projecting a positive “energy”! There are a few principles you can easily start implementing today for greater success in your business… and life…

Awareness Self awareness of the way you present yourself is the first and the most important secret to taking the steps towards making great first impressions and being sure you linger in their minds long after you left. An acute awareness of your good posture and your body language is what is going to make all the difference.

Posture Great posture goes a long way. Your posture; the way you hold Achieve Success Magazine

your body can dictate how you are going to be perceived by others. It is true that our posture is often influenced by our emotions. In other words, if you are feeling intimidated or shy, you might drop your chin, hunch your shoulders forward and avoid eye contact. This would be a dead giveaway that you are not feeling comfortable and chances are that others will feel just as uncomfortable in your presence. The posture of a self-confident, poised person is upright and proud, chin lifted, chest open and quite often a smile. This is the person that is going to get noticed right away. The truth is that even when you are feeling slightly intimidated, if you can master the posture and poise of someone who is feeling self-assured and in control, you can use this posture and you will immediately start looking and feeling more confident and you will instantly have a more confident presence. In other words… you can affect your mood or emotions by simply changing your posture. Spend a few minutes in front of the mirror and make yourself aware of what this great, selfconfident posture looks and feels like.

Intention Once you are aware that you have

the power to use your posture to position yourself as a more selfconfident person, all you need is to actually have the intention for others to see you that way. You have to make a decision that you want to make an impressive entrance and leave everyone wondering, “who is this person?” Once you have the intention, your body will find it easy to turn on that unmistakable posture, poise and presence that you practiced in front of the mirror before.

Graciousness Life has become a rat race and we get caught up in our own heads not paying much attention to those people around us. One of the greatest secrets to being remembered in a positive light is to be gracious. We so often get into the habit of asking, “how are you?” but how often do we pay attention to the answer? How often do you pay someone a compliment or just simply extend a friendly smile? By being sincerely interested in the other person, by greeting and smiling in a genuinely friendly way… you can be sure to get noticed and remembered and make an impression.

Eye contact How often have you gone on a date or sat in a meeting where you felt like you were not included in the conversation… or the other

37.

person is simply distracted and not interested. By maintaining eye contact with the person you are conversing with, you give them the feeling that you are totally engaged and interested. They will immediately feel important and included. If you are talking to a group, make sure to make eye contact with every single person there if possible, because you will make them feel included and significant. When you have an audience of 100’s or maybe thousands connect with every section of the room… This also establishes your confident presence and control of the conversation.

Sincerity Now remember, you can do all this – have the self awareness, the great posture, the right intention, be gracious and maintain eye contact, but if there is no real sincerity behind your actions… people will look right through you. By practicing these principals, by utilizing these few guidelines, you will definitely be noticed and remembered. It doesn’t cost anything and once you feel comfortable and confident in your own skin with your new posture, poise and presence you will be remembered as someone with that “special something” – That Victory Factor! 38.
