Manovre L’integrazione di Luxottica ed Essilor. Lvmh che entra in maggioranza in Marcolin. Luxottica che acquista la brasiliana Oticas Carol e i suoi 950 negozi. Kering che per ora fa produrre le sue linee di occhiali ma probabilmente si muoverà in futuro come Lvmh, sua antagonista da sempre, entrando nella compagine societaria di qualche azienda produttrice o acquistandola direttamente… da qualche tempo ogni giorno ci porta una notizia che cambierà il panorama e gli equilibri del settore nel quale lavoriamo.

Molti hanno reagito alla notizia che riguarda Luxottica ed Essilor affermando che ormai il settore è destinato ad essere completamente in mano a questi giganti. Questo è certo ma, al tempo stesso, io penso che si aprano sempre di più spazi, seppur piccoli, per iniziative particolari e di ricerca. Sono le aziende di media dimensione che soffriranno maggiormente di questa situazione perché saranno

Many reacted to the news concerning Luxottica and Essilor stating that the eyewear sector is now set to be completely in the hands of these giants.

That’s for sure, but at the same time I think that more and more space, although small, is available for special initiatives and research.

The medium-sized companies suffer the most because of this situation as they directly compete with “very great” ones. Those who dedicated their

in concorrenza con i “grandissimi”. Chi invece si dedica al design, alla sperimentazione, alle necessità di particolari fasce sociali e culturali avrà sempre più spazio di manovra purché non cerchi i grandi numeri per quanto riguarda il giro d’affari.

Tutto ciò si sta già riflettendo da qualche anno sui punti vendita di occhiali; da una parte gli ottici delle catene o quelli comunque legati ai grandi brand e dall’altra chi fa della ricerca e della selezione il proprio vanto. Un tempo, in Italia, il rapporto tra queste due tipologie di ottici era diecimila a duecento. Ora la seconda categoria ha avuto un aumento esponenziale. Prova ne è l’incremento degli espositori nelle sezioni dedicate dalle fiere di settore ai designer e alla cosiddetta “nicchia”.

A proposito di fiere e associazioni di settore in Italia, il presidente di Sistema Moda Italia, Claudio Marenzi, ha recentemente annunciato che a marzo nascerà una Federazione unica della moda all’interno di Confindustria. Di questa Federazione, che dopo Federchimica e Federmeccanica sarà la terza industria in ordine di grandezza e importanza all’interno di Confindustria, farà ovviamente parte anche Anfao per il comparto dell’occhialeria.

Nell’ambito di questo annuncio è stato accennato a una ipotetica riunione di tutte le manifestazioni delle associazioni interessate negli stessi dieci giorni a settembre. Ovviamente un Mido a settembre sconvolgerebbe ulteriormente il mercato. I vertici di Anfao, da noi interpellati, hanno smentito questa eventualità per quanto riguarda l’occhialeria.

This situation has already had consequences on the eyewear points of sale; on one side the optical chains or those still tied to the big brands and on the other side those who do research and selection of the products they sell. Once, in Italy, the relationship between these two types of opticians was ten thousand to two hundred. Now the second category had an exponential increase. Proof of this is the increase of exhibitors in the sections devoted by trade shows to designers and the so called “niche.”

Speaking of fairs and industry associations in Italy, the president of Sistema Moda Italy, Claudio Marenzi, recently announced that in March a unique federation of fashion within Confindustria will be created.

Anfao, for the eyewear sector, will be of course member of this Federation, which after Federchimica and Federmeccanica will be the third largest industry in order of size and importance within Confindustria. During this announcement it has been mentioned an hypothetical reunion of all the events of the associations involved within the same ten days in September.

Mido in September would obviously disrupt the market. We questioned Anfao and they denied this possibility.

Wonderful MIDO! #livethewonder Dopo i successi degli ultimi due anni e i record di espositori e visitatori, MIDO anche quest’anno per la sua 47ma edizione cresce nei numeri: 1500 metri quadrati in più di superficie espositiva, 127 nuove aziende da tutto il mondo, tra cui alcuni top brand del mondo dell’eyewear sportivo, il raddoppio dell’area MORE!, la conferma del Lab Academy, Fashion District, Design Lab, e il padiglione Lenses al completo, la crescita del FAiR East Pavilion e nuovi eventi che animeranno i padiglioni 5-7 dal 25 al 27 febbraio.

Proprio all’interno del MORE! sarà allestita la mostra “The Glasses Hype, Advertising & Eyewear: from medical device to icon”, un percorso narrativo sulla storia degli occhiali e delle lenti attraverso la pubblicità, dai primi anni del ‘900 a oggi. Circa 5mila immagini racconteranno il modo di comunicare nel settore dell’occhialeria, in un viaggio nel tempo che colpirà i sensi ed evocherà ricordi. La mostra sarà presentata ufficialmente sabato 25 febbraio alle 11 all’Otticlub.

This is the intent of the Otticlub appointments, a communal dynamic area, that will once again be hosting personalities and studies on the industry, starting with the OMO study, which concentrated its buying behavior survey on 4 new countries (USA, China, Japan and Russia), as well as the Future Concept Lab survey by Francesco Morace on international trends, focusing on China and on the west coast of the United States, and making forays into Europe.

International Vision Expo East New York Lo spazio espositivo diventa un palco a International Vision Expo East 2017 su cui si esibiscono le sfilate di moda, i party e più di 5.000 marchi insieme ai designer che guidano le tendenze. Uno spettacolo che viene sempre più scelto ed apprezzato dai “visionari dell’ottica” come gli organizzatori amano definire i visitatori del salone statunitense che offrirà oltre 320 ore di formazione e 28.000 mq di esposizione al Javits Center di New York. Le date: Formazione dal 30 marzo al 2 aprile; Esposizione dal 31 marzo al 2 aprile.

La novità di quest’anno è la New Designer Gallery nel Madison Square Park Lounge dove designer noti ed emergenti presenteranno i loro nuovi prodotti in una destinazione affascinante e curata, in posizione strategica lungo la navata principale adiacente alla Galleria.

International Vision Expo East ha annunciato eventi esclusivi per gli operatori dell’ottica tra i quali una presentazione di Liz Austin, una sviluppatrice di Google, in occasione di un networking dinamico, e sessioni focalizzate su come utilizzare i prodotti digitali di Google per far crescere il business dell’ottica. Il programma di Formazione di quest’anno prevede anche sessioni che tratteranno le più recenti tecnologie del settore spaziando dalla diagnosi clinica e di ricerca alla luce blu, alla tecnologia per la vendita al dettaglio.

Silmo 2017 Silmo Academy Call for applications SILMO ACADEMY si è ritagliato una nicchia come sede di dialogo e informazioni sui più recenti sviluppi scientifici nei settori della visione e dell’ottica, rivolto agli ottici e altri specialisti della visione, sia in Francia che all’estero.

In linea con la tradizione, questo convegno si svolgerà nell’ambito di Silmo Paris, dal 6 al 9 ottobre 2017 presso il centro espositivo di Paris Nord Villepinte.

Nel 2017 il convegno è dedicato a tutti gli aspetti dell’abbagliamento.

Chi è interessato a condividere per iscritto (con un poster ad esempio) la propria ricerca in questo ambito con altri professionisti può comunicare il titolo del poster a Silmo prima del 28 maggio 2017 al seguente indirizzo: silmoacademy@silmo.fr. I poster saranno in mostra per tutta la durata della fiera.

Gli ottici e altri professionisti della visione hanno bisogno quotidianamente di ogni genere di input per migliorare la loro attività professionale.

Dal 2016, Silmo Academy sostiene un progetto di ricerca nel campo dell’ottica e della scienza della visione. Una borsa di € 10.000 verrà data a un progetto presentato da un ricercatore individuale o da una squadra di ricerca e il progetto vincitore sarà scelto dal comitato scientifico.

SILMO ACADEMY has carved out a niche for itself as a forum for dialogue and information on the latest scientific developments in the vision and optics sectors, aimed at opticians and other vision specialists both in France and abroad. In line with tradition, this symposium will take place within the framework of SILMO Paris, World Optical Fair from 6th to 9th October 2017 at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre.

The 2017 symposium is dedicated in all aspects to the Dazzle.

Who is interested to share his/her research with other professionals by writing communications (as a poster for example) can send to Silmo the title of the poster before May 28, 2017, to the following address: silmoacademy@silmo.fr. They will be on display throughout the exhibition.

Opticians and other vision professionals need every input to improve their professional practice on a daily basis.

Since 2016, Silmo Academy has chosen to support a research project in the field of optics and vision science. It is offering a € 10,000 grant for a project submitted by an individual researcher or research team, with the winning project selected by the scientific committee.

Applicants must submit the following by no later than June 10, 2017: Resume, Full presentation of the project, Methodology , Resources already available (sponsor, internship supervisor, grants secured etc.), Resources still required in order to successfully complete their project.

100% Optical Record breaking optical show scores 100% L’ultima edizione del salone inglese 100% Optical, che ha avuto luogo a Londra dal 4 al 6 febbraio, ha ottenuto i migliori risultati dalla sua nascita. Il salone ha supportato per la prima volta i prestigiosi AOP Awards e ha fornito una piattaforma per la prossima generazione di giovani designer per far partire la loro carriera dando vita al concorso di design degli occhiali in collaborazione con il Royal College of Art. La prossima edizione sarà dal 27 al 29 gennaio 2018.

The UK’s optical trade show, 100% Optical, dazzled visitors and exhibitors at its biggest and best show yet. Business boomed for exhibitors over the three days, with record numbers of delegates attending the London show between 4-6 February.

100% Optical has supported the prestigious AOP Awards for the first time and provided a platform for the next generation of young designers to kick-start their career by entering the eyewear design competition in partnership with the Royal College of Art. 100% Optical will be back 27-29 January 2018.

OPTI 2017 opti 2017 ha proposto molte novità ai 27.500 visitatori tedeschi e internazionali e ai 557 espositori provenienti da 35 Paesi. Il salone ha ottenuto così il massimo dei voti nel sondaggio fra i visitatori, valutazioni che si sono riflesse nell’atmosfera cordiale e rilassata all’interno dei quattro padiglioni.

Gli espositori hanno beneficiato di questo clima positivo: secondo i primi calcoli, che non tengono conto del business post-fiera, il pubblico presente alla manifestazione ha generato ordini per il primo trimestre per un valore superiore a 163 milioni di Euro.

A opti 2017 i temi centrali sono stati la concatenazione dei processi dalla misura preliminare alla rifrazione, il software di consulenza, gli ordini di lenti fino alla fresatura. L’86 percento dei visitatori ha accolto con favore e interesse il tema “OPTIC 4.0 – Digital Solutions”, ritenendo la digitalizzazione “molto importante” per il settore. Oltre 30 aziende hanno presentato novità nel campo dei foropteri, della cheratografia, delle telecamere per esame del fondo oculare e del software specifico per il settore. A queste si sono aggiunte numerose etichette gio-

opti 2017 offered its 27,500 national and international trade visitors and 557 exhibitors from 35 countries many new facets. In return, opti received top reviews from 95% of surveyed visitors – an evaluation that was reflected in the relaxed and happy atmosphere in the four trade show halls. The exhibitors benefited from this very positive atmosphere. According to first projections – which do not include the trade show’s follow-up business – the trade show visitors ordered products with a value of €163 million for the first quarter. opti 2017 placed a focus on the con-

nection from pre-measurement to refraction, on consultancy software, on ordering glasses, and on grinding the lenses. 86% of the visitors were happy about this year’s thematic focus “OPTIC 4.0 – Digital Solutions”, since they classified digitalization as “very important” for the industry. More than 30 companies presented new developments in the areas of phoropters, keratoscopes, fundus cameras, or industry software. These were enhanced by many young labels, some making their first appearance at a trade show, offering 3D, customized, printed eyewear.

FAIRS Saturday night ended with beaming faces for LOOL Eyewear.

With their retro-futuristic frames, as the designers describe the style of their glasses, the young, Barcelona-based label won the first Blogger Spectacle Award. A jury of 21 European eyewear and fashion bloggers awarded this opti newcomer prize for the first time at the trade show. LOOL Eyewear proved themselves against 15 other opti box exhibitors.

Furthermore, the international trade show for optic & design gave detailed answers to the following questions: How does one master the challenge of digitalization?

How are glasses manufacturers preparing for the digital future?

What will further optical training look like? How much Vintage Passion does one need to tap into an individual customer market with vani, alcune delle quali presenti in fiera per la prima volta, che propongono occhiali personalizzati stampati in 3D. Sabato sera volti raggianti per i rappresentanti di LOOL Eyewear.

Con le sue montature “retrofuturistiche” (così i designer definiscono lo stile dei loro occhiali), la giovane etichetta di Barcellona si è aggiudicata il primo Blogger Spectacle Award. Il premio è stato assegnato da una giuria di 21 blogger di occhialeria e moda europei. LOOL Eyewear ha superato gli altri 15 espositori presenti negli opti-Box. Il salone ha risposto anche a diverse domande. Come si vince la sfida della digitalizzazione? Come si stanno preparando i produttori di lenti al futuro digitale? Come si evolverà la formazione professionale nel mondo dell’ottica? Quanta Vintage Passion serve per aprirsi un proprio mercato con la raccolta di occhiali classici?

Questi e altri argomenti sono stati affrontati nelle 40 presentazioni di opti-Forum.

News ticker of additional interesting numbers from opti 2017: 91% of the exhibitors gave their trade show appearance top reviews - the largest visitor group consisted of owners of independent opticians (no franchise) - the most important offer ranges were: frames (60%), digital technology (46%), and glasses (33%) - visitors gave top ratings for the quality of the exhibitors (94%) and their presentations of new products (95%).

La prossima edizione di opti si svolgerà da venerdì 12 a domenica 14 gennaio 2018 a Monaco di Baviera. Oltre ai tradizionali padiglioni da C1 a C4 verrà aggiunto anche un quinto padiglione, B4.

Altre cifre interessanti di opti 2017: il 91% degli espositori ha assegnato il massimo dei voti alla manifestazione - la principale categoria di visitatori è stata quella dei proprietari di negozi di ottica indipendenti (non in franchising) - le categorie merceologiche principali sono state: montature (60%), tecnologie digitali (46%) e lenti (33%) - i visitatori hanno assegnato i voti più alti alla qualità degli espositori (94%) e alla presentazione di novità (95%.

Il settore dell’ottica, e quello dell’occhialeria in particolare, ha seguito un’evoluzione del tutto simile a quella di altre industrie, con una lenta ma progressiva tendenza alla concentrazione. La spinta alla crescita dimensionale nasce dalla possibilità di abbassare i costi ed esercitare politiche che permettano di operare in modo incisivo sulle dinamiche di mercato, dal lato dell’offerta e quello della domanda.

La storia delle montature, che da Italiani ricordiamo con la prima fabbrica di Frescura nel 1878 a Calalzo di Cadore, in realtà risale alla metà del ‘500; mentre la lente nasce, secondo quanto riportava Enrico De Lotto, ai tempi di Nerone, che usava un rubino per ingrandire i manoscritti.

but which one?

The Optics sector, and Eyewear in particular, has followed an evolution very similar to other industries, with a slow but progressive trend toward concentration. The boost to grow the size arises from the possibility to lower costs and pursue policies that can decide the market dynamics, both from the supply and the demand side.

The history of the optical frames, which, as Italians, we remember with the first Frescura factory in 1878 in Calalzo di Cadore, actually dates back to mid ‘500, while the lens was born, as reported by Enrico De Lotto, at the time of Nero, who used a ruby to zoom the manuscripts.

Western countries alternated in eyewear manufacturing leadership: Germany first of all, synonymous with industry and technology; the USA with sunglasses and also frames until the 70s; and France, whose district is perhaps born before the Cadore one.

In the eyewear sector we have seen the phenomenon of the “public companies” just during the past 30 years, long after what happened in other industries, that require huge capital from their start to grow quickly.

In our sector, in fact, it is still possible to operate with reduced dimensions.

The consequence is that the economic players remain in the field until when a more efficient way of doing business puts the current players “out of the game”.

I Paesi occidentali si sono alternati nella leadership di fabbricazione dell’occhiale: la Germania in primis, sinonimo di industria e di tecnologia; gli Stati Uniti, con gli occhiali da sole ma anche le montature fino agli anni ’70; e la Francia con un distretto nato forse prima di quello Cadorino.

“Solamente” negli ultimi 30 anni vediamo emergere il fenomeno delle “public company” (società quotate) nel comparto degli occhiali, molto dopo quanto è accaduto in altre industrie, che richiedono da subito ingenti capitali per crescere. In questo settore, infatti, è ancora possibile operare con dimensioni ridotte. La conseguenza è che gli attori economici restano in campo fino al punto in cui si presenta un modo più efficiente di fare business che mette gli operatori “fuori gioco”.

BOLD Che cosa vedremo allora nel prossimo futuro?

Semplicemente seguiremo quanto accade in altri contesti, ma a velocità diversa.

Integrazioni, fusioni, crescita dimensionale sono la nuova normalità, anche se “dopo il brutto viene il bello” (dipende dai punti di vista) e quindi, seguendo l’esempio della grande distribuzione USA, dopo l’espansione dei punti vendita vedremo il consolidamento e le chiusure.

Non c’è nulla di eterno anche se alcune aziende presentano record di longevità come la Kongo Gumi, costruttore di templi buddisti nata nel 578, ma acquisita quasi dieci anni fa dal colosso dell’edilizia Takamatsu.

La spinta della finanza, esplosa con la globalizzazione, ha favorito anche questo episodio e quindi assisteremo naturalmente ad una crescita

progressiva delle aggregazioni.

Un dubbio sorge se dovessimo invece vedere una sostanziale ridefinizione del commercio mondiale, ad effetto di politiche mirate a tutelare gli interessi locali di ciascun Paese.

Stiamo andando verso un mondo di estremi opposti, che si caratterizza per la polverizzazione dei comportamenti di acquisto, e la diversità fra chi offre un’esperienza unica rispetto a chi continua a lavorare solo sul prezzo. I mutamenti tecnologici, chiave della rivoluzione industriale, in questa fase storica forse non sono l’unico motore del cambiamento.

Sembrano essere invece i comportamenti dei singoli attori economici, all’interno delle politiche nazionali, a spingere la trasformazione della struttura del settore.

CINQUANT’ANNI DI PASSIONE PER LA PROFESSIONE

Un galantuomo sorridente e affabile. Questa è la prima immagine che mi viene in mente pensando ad Alessandro Spiezia che, grazie alla mia attività, conosco da molti anni. Un galantuomo che ha sempre un pensiero gentile al momento giusto, che, schernendosi, minimizza sempre quello che ha fatto nel suo settore e che è riuscito recentemente a portarmi davanti a Papa Francesco.

Non ultimo, ha saputo crescere dei figli altrettanto meritevoli.

Nel 2017 questo galantuomo festeggia i suoi primi 50 anni di carriera e del suo negozio di ottica. Non è da tutti.

A smiling and friendly gentleman. I have known Alessandro Spiezia for many years and every time I think about him this is the image that comes to my mind. A gentleman who has always had a nice thought at the right time and that has recently invited me to meet Pope Francis. This gentleman, who is always very humble about himself and his wonderful family, is celebrating in 2017 his first 50 years in the business and of his store.

Tra i molti successi cinematografici degli anni passati, ce ne fu uno di Alfred Hitchcock che aveva per “protagonista “una finestra. Era “La finestra sul cortile” e il protagonista, il grande attore James Stewart, scopriva cose strane e interessanti nelle case che aveva di fronte.

Immaginate cosa può vedere chi ha quella finestra che “affaccia “su via del Babuino a Roma, nel cuore della città che tutti attraversano e che ammirano. E davanti a quella finestra molti si fermano per sbirciare all’interno o per farsi ammirare. Un via vai continuo con il bel tempo, con il vento o con il freddo. E quel signore può godere di questo privilegio da 50 anni, senza annoiarsi ma, anzi, sempre più innamorato del luogo e del suo lavoro. Già perché qui non si è con le mani in mano, ma si è attenti e concentrati sulla propria professione.

E questo da ben 50 anni!

Quel fortunato – molti lo considerano così – risponde al nome di Alessandro Spiezia, titolare dell’omonimo negozio di ottica nella capitale d’Italia.

Spiezia, lei si considera fortunato?

Dal punto di vista del luogo e della visibilità direi di si, ma non possiamo considerare soltanto il bello del cosiddetto “affaccio”. I problemi non mancano anche qui. Consideri quanto pesano sul nostro lavoro le innumerevoli e continue manifestazioni che vengono programmate su piazza del Popolo. O i cortei che qualche volta degenerano e ci costano, come è accaduto in passato, il rischio di finire in fumo.

Alessandro Spiezia has been watching the world go by for 50 years from his store in Via del Babuino, right in the center of Rome: hundreds of people look at his shop windows every day and many of his clients have known him for years, asking for his professional advice and becoming his friends. Alessandro Spiezia is the lucky owner of the “Ottica Spiezia” shop, situated in Via Del Babuino 199 in Rome.

Mr. Spiezia , do you consider yourself lucky?

The location of my shop is definitely one of the best in the city of Rome, but we also have some problems due to the fact that we are so close to Piazza del Popolo, where there are demonstrations, events and parades all the time. Sometimes the protesters become dangerous and we can have problems and damages as it happened in the past.

Let’s talk about his 50 years of career, how did it all start?

I studied at the Istituto Massimo with the Jesuits and after my diploma I wasn’t sure about what to do, but in the end I decided for a professional school for opticians. When I joined the army, because of my studies I was sent to the ophthalmology department of the Celio Hospital and from that moment on I was sure about what I wanted to be!

Veniamo ai suoi primi 50 anni. Come è arrivato qui?

Conseguita la maturità classica all’Istituto Massimo con i padri gesuiti, mi sono guardato intorno non avendo una precisa vocazione verso questo o quell’indirizzo universitario. Sono stato attratto dal mondo dell’ottica e mi sono iscritto all’istituto De Amicis. La svolta definitiva è venuta durante il periodo del servizio militare. Proprio per questa mia, chiamiamola, “infarinatura” nel settore, sono stato mandato al reparto oculistico dell’Ospedale Celio. Da quel momento non ho più avuto dubbi su quella che sarebbe stata la mia professione.

Quando lo sbarco in via del Babuino?

Dopo qualche anno di aggiornamento professionale e di impegno, decisi di fare il salto e di crearmi una attività tutta mia. Gli anni trascorrevano, la passione per il lavoro era sempre maggiore come maggiore era l’impegno. Si presentò l’opportunità di rilevare questo piccolo negozio e, anche con il supporto di mio padre Ubaldo, mi gettai nell’impresa. Era il 1967.

L’inizio non fu certamente facile anche perché’ in quella stessa zona non mancano e non mancavano affermati concorrenti È vero, ma io avevo forse un vantaggio, almeno così pensavo. Infatti di fronte al negozio c’era il palazzo dove aveva sede tutto il settore radiofonico della RAI. Da lì venivano messi in onda i giornali radio, le rubriche e altre trasmissioni. Molti quindi potenziali clienti tra giornalisti e dipendenti. Ma la mia maggiore soddisfazione è che ho avuto l’opportunità di conoscere e di diventare amico dei più famosi giornalisti di allora. Ameri, Ciotti, Liguori e tutti gli altri che ci tenevano compagnia attraverso la radio. E non solo loro. Via del Babuino corre parallela a via Margutta, la strada degli artisti, dei pittori, degli attori. Voglio ricordare un episodio per tutti. Una mattina entra nel negozio Federico Fellini. Ha degli occhiali che, mi dice, non riesce a portare perché gli cadono in continuazione. Infatti le stanghette erano corte e non arrivavano dietro le orecchie. Ma la ragione era che lui aveva una distanza non usuale. Gli feci in fretta degli occhiali nuovi ed ebbi la soddisfazione di vedere che li indossava a Los Angeles mentre ritirava l’Oscar alla carriera.

When did you arrive in Via del Babuino?

After a few years of studying and working, I decided it was time to get my own business. I loved my job and I was ready to work even harder, so with the help of my father Ubaldo I was able to get my own shop. It was 1967.

Not an easy start, anyway, because there were and still are many competitors in that area True. But I had an advantage, or at least I thought I had one. Just across the street from my shop there was the building of the Rai Radio (the Italian public radio) and my clients could have been radiobroadcasters, commentators, journalists and employees. Through the years they all became my clients and my friends, and I had the privilege to meet all the important people that worked for the radio. And not only them: the parallel street of Via del Babuino is via Margutta, very famous for being the one of artists, painters and actors. One day Federico Fellini walked into my shop saying that his glasses were bothering him as they were falling off all the time and I had to replace them very quickly with new ones: I was glad to see that he was wearing them during the Oscars in Los Angeles.

A proposito di visite importanti, lei può contare su un’esclusiva a livello globale…

Un momento della vita che ti cambia la vita stessa. Pensare che un Pontefice un giorno decida di salire sulla sua auto utilitaria con il solo autista, per venire a farsi fare gli occhiali da vista direttamente nel tuo piccolo, angusto ma accogliente negozio, non può che segnarti per sempre.

E il dopo Francesco come è stato?

Superato il primo impatto con giornali, televisioni, radio che volevano sapere che cosa mi avesse detto il Papa, tutto è tornato nella norma, salvo qualche turista che ancora si ferma per una foto al negozio. Ma vede… non può esserci un dopo, rimane sempre un “adesso”. Io considero la visita di Bergoglio come un regalo, un omaggio che qualcuno di “Lassù” ha voluto farmi, forse il mio indimenticabile Papà, per i miei primi 50 anni. Un “omaggio” che io posso lasciare in eredità ai miei figli Giancarlo e Luca che festeggeranno sempre al Babuino i secondi 50 anni di “Ottica Spiezia “

Were there any changes after Pope Francis visit?

After the first days in which Newspapers, Tv shows, journalists and media in general came to ask about the Pope and what he told me, everything went back to normal; sometimes tourists stop for a picture but you see… in this case there is no “after” there is always something that stays in my heart. A gift that I was given, maybe thanks to my beloved father, that I will leave to my sons Giancarlo e Luca for the next 50 years of the”Ottica Spiezia”.

Frames and lenses are developed, produced and put together under the same roof, this allows the two components to be perfectly adjusted to each other.

The complete spectacles have a number of benefits to opticians: ordering takes less time, as they have just one point of contact for both frame and lens. They also save time, trouble, staff, and therefore money, as the lenses no longer need to be fitted in the optician’s own workshop. The breakage risk, particularly with glazing for rimless spectacles, is removed altogether.

For aesthetic reasons, Silhouette frames are built on base curve 5 that allows spectacles to fit the wearer’s face shape perfectly, as it corresponds to the natural flow of the face. Silhouette used this credo also in producing the Silhouette Panorama™ lenses to ensure the best possible harmony between frame and lens. The measurements taken by the optician using the demo spectacles are 100% identical to the finished spectacles and the glasses look exactly the same as the model which the wearer tried on.

The highly transparent lens material and the special anti-reflection Clear Sensation™ coating ensure the greatest possible clarity of the lenses and complete the clear lines of the lens harmoniously. The coloured reflection that results from the layer structure and

refraction at the edge of the lenses has been kept to a minimum. In line with the basic rules of cosmetics, Silhouette opted for a soft, cosmetic green tone.

Thanks to the edging process the semi-matt facet minimises light reflection and distracts refraction at the edge of the lens.

Silhouette offers a standard range of transparent optical lenses and lightly tinted versions in grey, brown, green, blue and pink. These are available in 10%. 20% or 25% tint or with a colour progression.

Silhouette also support opticians with a very special service tool – the Silhouette Vision Sensation app.

Timeshades is the newline of sunglasses made by the creative flair of Marco Mavilla, Milanese designer enthusiast of Haute Horlogerie.

The brand was born from the idea of combining two worlds of accessories, eyewear and classic watches, with the addition of the watch bezel to the eyewear frame.

The collection consists of 18 models of handmade unisex glasses, 13 with acetate frame and UV lenses, enriched by elements inspired to the design of the great watchmakers, the typical aluminum frames of the classic watches and temples that blend with a very particular side strap.

In addition, there are 5 other precious models in shiny stainless metal with minimal design. The entire collection is equipped with flex hinges.

Essilor e Luxottica Il 16 gennaio scorso Essilor e Delfin hanno annunciato la firma di un accordo volto a creare, attraverso la combinazione di Essilor e Luxottica Group, un player integrato dedicato alla cura della vista.

Insieme, Essilor e Luxottica avrebbero più di 140.000 dipendenti e vendite in oltre 150 Paesi. Sulla base dei risultati annuali del 2015 delle due società, il nuovo gruppo avrebbe realizzato ricavi netti per oltre € 15 miliardi e un EBITDA netto combinato di circa € 3,5 miliardi.

Il nuovo gruppo prevede di generare nel medio termine progressivamente sinergie di ricavi e di costi per un ammontare tra i € 400 milioni e i € 600 milioni. L’operazione consisterebbe in una combinazione strategica delle attività di Essilor e Luxottica.

Essilor diverrebbe una società holding col nuovo nome di “EssilorLuxottica”, a seguito del conferimento di tutte le sue attività operative in una società da essa interamente partecipata, che assumerà la denominazione Essilor International, e del conferimento da parte di Delfin delle proprie azioni Luxottica.

A seguito dell’operazione, Delfin deterrebbe una partecipazione al capitale di EssilorLuxottica compresa tra il 31% e il 38%1, divenendone il primo socio.

Il Presidente di Luxottica, Leonardo Del Vecchio, assumerebbe la carica di Presidente Esecutivo e Amministratore Delegato di EssilorLuxottica.

Il Presidente e CEO di Essilor, Hubert Sagnières, assumerebbe la carica di Vice Presidente Esecutivo e Amministratore Delegato di EssilorLuxottica, con i medesimi poteri del Presidente Esecutivo e Amministratore Delegato. Leonardo Del Vecchio e Hubert Sagnières manterrebbero le rispettive cariche di Presidente di Luxottica e di Presidente e Amministratore Delegato di Essilor.

Essilor and Delfin announced on January 16 the signing of an agreement designed to create an integrated player dedicated to visual health through a combination of Essilor and Luxottica Group.

Together, Luxottica and Essilor would have more than 140,000 employees and sales in more than 150 countries. Based on the companies’ 2015 results, the new company would have posted combined net revenues of more than € 15 billion and combined net EBITDA of approximately € 3.5 billion.

The combined group is expected to progressively generate revenue and cost synergies ranging from € 400 million to € 600 million in the medium term.

It will also benefit from a robust balance sheet and strong cash flow generation, giving it the financial flexibility to invest in its future growth both externally and internally.

The transaction would entail a strategic combination of Essilor’s and Luxottica’s businesses.

Essilor would become a holding company with the new name “EssilorLuxottica” via a hive-down of all of its operating activities into a wholly-owned Company, to be called Essilor International, and the contribution by Delfin of its Luxottica shares.

Following the transaction, Delfin would own between 31% and 38%1 of the shares of EssilorLuxottica and would be its largest shareholder.

Luxottica’s Executive Chairman, Leonardo Del Vecchio, would serve as Executive Chairman and CEO of EssilorLuxottica.

Essilor Chairman and CEO, Hubert Sagnières, would serve as Executive Vice-Chairman and Deputy CEO of EssilorLuxottica with equal powers as the Chairman and CEO. Leonardo Del Vecchio and Hubert Sagnières would also keep their positions of Executive Chairman of Luxottica and Chairman and CEO of Essilor International, respectively.

Eyewear company Kirk & Kirk announced the launch of their distribution company; Kirk & Kirk Distribution. Established by Jason and Karen Kirk, who celebrate their 25th anniversary of working in optics in 2017, this new arm to their business is designed to aid independent practices in the discovery of new eyewear brands.

The business has been created to support UK opticians in their pursuit of autonomy and independence, offering alternatives to the “big brands” that are already well represented in the UK. Kirk & Kirk Distribution will be launching with the Italian sunglass brands Eyepetizer and Hapter as well as French brand Bruno Chaussignand.
